Riding cost for singles
Though the golf was good, I was not happy that as a single, I had to pay a full cart cost. This is the only course that I have ever seen this. There is usually a ride or walk price. Even though I grew up San Francisco and played this course many times in the past, I will never go back as a single.
Shame on The City of San Francisco
Save your money. The city of San Francisco has completely let all aspects of this course go; clover filled fairways and greens that have a fungus on every single green. Yes That’s All Eighteen. That being said, BE WARNED. The last blow for this course is the CART PATH ONLY. You will not find this information on web site for Lincoln Park nor disclosed by GolfNow. I have a feeling The City will be closing the course and making it into a City Park as I see the new Mayor spending money on something that benefits the homeless population in lieu of people who pay taxes and live or visit SF.
Last comment I have, check out the golf cart we were issued; an old cart with all four tires bald. That’s correct, bald and also a broken steering box. You are required to leave your drivers license for the key to the cart. But the views of the Golden Gate Bridge were great.
Cool course for the value, especially in the evening. Was my first time playing the course, and only played the first nine holes. Not in great condition and not well-manicured, but it’s great for the price and a fun/challenging place to play a cheeky round and get some practice in.
First and last time
Course is in poor condition, greens are horrible. The layout is nice and the surrounding area is beautiful.
good course in fair condition
Lincoln is a good course but not in very good condition.
There were very few people on the course partly because it is overpriced for anyone except San Francisco residents.
Residents pay $27 on weekdays but non residents must pay $41.
On golfnow we paid $34.
Good City-Owned Muni Course, AMAZING Views!
Be warned, it's maintained about as well as you think that a city-owned muni course in the middle of a city with a handful of employees would be. As long as you go into your round with that in mind, it's a really fun course to play. And as with ANY walk that you might take through San Francisco, you're going to be going up and down hills!
I live in SF and play this course every 4-6 weeks (when Presidio is too busy), and it is a fun course to play. The city doesn't have the funding to keep this in tip top shape, so unfortunately there are some rough patches around the course. But what suffers in course maintenance is absolutely made up for with the views! (see pictures from the famous 17th tee).
The white tees are about 4950 yards with only one par-5 (VERY short), and it's a par 68. That being said, this course can be sneaky tricky. Not finding the fairway can be detrimental since there is some pretty long rough around the course. Trees also line almost every fairway, so you might find yourself having to shape shots to stay out of the woods.
Getting a cart here is a bit of a pain since they only have a handful of them, and it's ALWAYS cart path only. About 6 months ago they had a string of a**holes flip 4 carts in only a couple weeks, so they changed the rules and they are very strict about it.
Also be forewarned, they're VERY strict about bringing outside alcohol onto the course. I've even been "caught" when I was trying to put beers into my bag in the parking lot. So do this at home... They've also came by on the course and given me the "we don't sell that type of beer here, you need to get rid of that now or leave."
The course was first built in 1902 with 3 holes, and expanded to 18 holes in 1917. I would say that the clubhouse reflects this fact. The cafe is decent with some good breakfast options, hamburgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, etc.
All in all, it's a good price for a round of golf in the city, and one that you probably need to make sure to do for the views.
What this course COULD be is the toughest part
This beautiful setting continues to suffer under the City's pathetic leadership and management.
Full of dandelions and clovers, grass on fairways way too long. No signs indicating par or distance, not even any signs warning tourists and walkers that they're on a golf course.
Add that to the new rule of cart path only and there are frustrations with playing here.
However I will periodically come back to play because of the majestic views and relative value of the course. Playing Presidio with a cart, prime time on a Saturday is more than double, ditto with Harding, which is even more.
While the course conditions have more in common with Gleneagles, it's worth playing here still every now and then.
Great views
Lincoln is well situated with amazing views of the water and the Golden Gate Bridge.
The course is not well maintained and there are no water fountains anywhere along the course on the back 9 holes.
Greens not in good shape.
Six of the greens were being re-seeded and the course was not very playable. They were not accepting any direct reservations to play on the day of my reservation. Apparently you did not know that and allowed me to make a reservation, which I had to cancel.
Great course for a casual weekend round
Decided to play after seeing the course on a hike through Lands’ End. The views on each hole are stunning with the 17th being the best view of any Bay Area course I’ve seen so far. The recent rain and relatively poor maintence means the greens were inconsistent and chipping was difficult if you tend to hit your shots fat like me. Ball control from the tee to the green was pretty easy as the soft ground stops just about ever ball in its tracks.
Disappointing
Unfortunately they were not allowing carts and we had to walk the course. We only ended up being able to play 8 holes instead of 13-14 that we expected to play.
Getting from holes 2 to 3 and from 5 to 6 is extremely difficult and unclear. There is limited hole signage so you are guessing half the time.
On holes 3 & 4 there were several pedestrians on the cart paths and actually sat on the hole so we had to call the staff to remove them.
Beautiful course with fantastic views of SF bay and gg bridge.
Bad conditions
This course has great features but it is very unkept. It could be a great course but it’s not been kept up at all
Very good course
Lincoln in San Francisco is a very good course. It is in good condition for a public course. The only drawback was the restaurant closed at 4:00 pm so we could not play the 19th hole!
Fun Day
We thoroughly enjoyed playing Lincoln Park. The course is very pretty. One big concern is that there is only on place that we could find that had water (near the rest rooms). With all of the medical concerns about staying hydrated, we believe there should be water stations placed randomly around different tee boxes or a Marshall carrying water.......this is also a concern since the layout does not circle back to the clubhouse until after 18. On the day that we played San Francisco hit a record 106 degrees. Water stations, please
Fun course in a beautiful spot
Par-68 for 18-holes. We were the first twilight tee (3pm), and it was a little backed up at first tee, so we started on 9.
Lovely views of the Golden Gate. Fog and wind were only a slight factor, but really just add to the majesty of the bluffs West of the Presidio.
Cart recommended, since some holes are disjointed from the rest. Plenty of walk-ons though.
Good course in San Francisco
I always enjoy playing Lincoln in San Francisco. The seventeenth hole has iconic views of the Golden Gate Bridge
Anyone who has played much public course golf, particularly in warm weather, knows that they should be responsible for bringing their own liquids onto the course or suffer the consequences. Can’ t imagine that someone might think that a course Marshall might also be their means of obtaining hydration on a golf course.
