Los Robles Greens Golf Course
About
Nestled in the foothills of the Conejo Valley, Los Robles Greens Golf Course is less than 40 miles from L.A. but feels much further thanks to the beautiful mountain surroundings. It sits at 900 feet above sea level and tumbles across a variety of elevation changes. The towering, mature oaks that line the fairways characterize the course. The diverse layout offers both wide and narrow fairways, water hazards, and thick cuts of rough. The undulating greens are also lightning fast. The course is a fair challenge but still gentle enough to appeal to a range of skill levels. Although it is a public golf course, the beautiful setting and excellent course conditions gives Los Robles Greens the feel of a private club, which makes it a great value for the price.

great sand traps
I really really love the course
CART PAIRINGS
At super twilight, on a Tuesday, the starter (Roscoe) stills pairs people who paid for and took a cart to the starting hole #10! He puts you with people you don't want to be, e.g., with-smokers, non-stop talkers, poor course etiquette. He said if you want your own cart then you can pay $30.00 for own. I paid $27.00 for golf w/cart.Then he asks you if you know the cart rules. Hard to shake for the first three holes. Pro shop staff are professional and not working for a free round of golf as a tyrant marshal/Starter. After 10 holes my cart was still sitting at the beginning of the course! Not a shortage of carts !
Golf pro not cooperative
It seems that the golf pro takes exception to getting deals through GolfNow.com. Because we got a reduced rate though GolfNow, he would not allow us to start in front of 3 groups of high school players even though there was plenty of opportunity before they started. Instead we were made to wait and the result was starting 15-20 minutes late. Play was slow the entire front nine because even the coaches got to play in front of us. My problem is that they would have allowed us to start earlier if not for the GolfNow reduced rate.
New Look Los Robles
Recent changes to zero scape and improve bunkers gave this course some teeth. Shorter track, not target golf but between trees, wood bark and bunkers accuracy is highly valued. Usually in good shape, lots of friendly people for the single player to join up with
Mid day
I love the improvements on the course though hole 10 should be a par 5........really great bunkering on hole 9.
Los Robles
Played the Blacks (70.1/124/6304) in 4H, 20M playing early morning with JohnnyGK, RGM2525 & lavega21 on a GK Guru deal. The weather was around 80, clear and only at times breezy.
The tees were fairly lush and mostly level. Several of the par 3's needed divot repair.
The mostly Kikuyu fairways had good coverage. Lush where the Kikuyu is, more thin where the remnants of Rye and Bermuda are.
The rough also had good coverage if you were close to the fairway. Mowed down and not overly penal. There are some hardpan bare spots where the turf removal program kicked in farther from the fairways, and many areas that used to be rough are now wood chips.
The newly conditioned traps have nice sand that is currently plentiful. They have added traps and expanded others on this layout. The traps here are now generally bigger and have steep faces and it is much more penalizing than they used to be.
The poa annua greens putted medium speed and were firm but still held approach shots well. Mostly smooth with relatively few unfixed ball marks.
Changes that stick out in my mind that they have made to the layout in the past year include:
1) Removing probably 2/3 of the rough and making what used to be a combination of hardpan and grass wood chip wasteland areas.
2) Removing the man made lake directly in front of #9 green and replacing it with a huge waste bunker. That plus enlarging the waste bunker behind #9 green make it a great risk/reward short par 4.
3) Adding 2 bunkers on #2, front right and back left. The one back left also comes into play if you are long/left of #7 and would be nasty to get out of.
4) Adding a fairway bunker left on #10 makes the hardest hole on the course even tougher.
5) Adding bunkers short left & short right of #6. Really adds toughness to a downhill par 3 where because of the wind and severely elevated tee it is tough to gauge the distance,
Overall, positive to very positive changes/additions.
LR is a challenging course to walk because of all the hills. Shorter, hilly course that is currently in okay condition and worth it if you get a good rate. The customer service from everyone encountered was very good. Cart girl out making the rounds numerous times. Recommended.
Love the New layout and course renovations
Love the new renovations that were made. Makes for a fun challenging course. It's in great condition.
Los Robles
Walked the Blues (68.9/122/6000) on the GK Certificate for $25.50 in 4H, 15 playing midday as a 3some with Charles & Prim. The weather was HOT, low 100's, sunny and a little breezy. The customer service from both the pro shop & the starter was excellent, they got me out quickly and matched up. The cart gal was around 3-4 times. Overall, the course is dry and not in as good of condition as when I played here 6 weeks ago. Soaring temps and the lack of watering the whole course can dry out a layout real quick! The tees were only fair, many were getting thin and the par 3's in particular were chewed up. The fairways had good coverage and were mostly lush, good to play from. The rough had good coverage close to the fairways. Mowed down and not overly penal. There are some hardpan bare spots where the turf removal program kicked in farther from the fairways. The newly reconfigured and reconditioned traps have nice sand that is currently plentiful. I got bit for the 1st time on some of the fairway traps that have been added with steep faces. Forget advancing the ball, was happy to just get the ball out on grass again. When the native grass they have planted both in/around the traps matures, these are going to be some of the tougher traps in So Cal to play from. The poa annua greens putted medium fast and were firm but still held approach shots well. A little bumpy would be my only complaint. Adding traps on the left of #10 fairway and both short right & left of #6 green strengthen holes that were already tough. Love the new waste bunker that replaced the small lake short/left of #9 green. Decent mid level alternative, shorter, hilly course that is currently in decent condition and worth it if you get a good rate. Recommended.
excellent shape
Extremely Hot day! Course is in excellent condition. I would compare it to many of the mid level country clubs (Condition wise). Los Robles s the best Public course by far in the area. Stay away from Camarillo Springs and Tierra Rejada until they start watering the course again. Those two courses are like playing on concrete and dirt. Los Robles - Thank you as I was considering putting away the clubs until the courses started to improve.
Death March
Went off at 3pm on a Sunday. All my past experiences here have been long, slow rounds. Not sure why I expected anything different. They send the groups out to close together. A fifteen minute wait on the par 3 5th hole. Took 2 hours and 40 minutes to play nine. Left and did not play the back nine.
Well maintained course!
The course is in as good of condition as I've seen it over the years - with exception to some lack of watering, mainly well outside the fairways, which is becoming common in Southern California due to the drought. It is very playable - I had a great day!
Great staff, great conditions since remodel!
Really enjoyed the upgrade/remodel, especially hole 9. Staff is always super courteous and orisessional. Highly recommend playing here!
Modification construction is completed!
Randy and his staff are the best!! They will always try their hardest to get you out. I tend to be the guy that shows up at 6:00AM with no tee time. I (almost) always am able to get out. My only compliant: You get out early, blow through the front nine, then you hit the "brick wall" of the people only playing nine holes (they let them off of #10) and the experience drops from a 10+ to a 5 as you get stuck behind the "nine + breakfast" crowd. BTW my experiences are weekend only. I'm a working stiff so midweek golf is out for me. The course is generally in great shape. A new water saving re-do was just completed. It's a great little track that has become my home course. It looks short on the card but there are plenty of challenges to keep you interested. Go check it out!
Fun, Challenging Course
Deceivingly challenging course. Greens are pretty tricky, fairways are nice but some are narrow, and definitely stay out of the sand. I would absolutely play this course again.
Great city course
Love this place
So glad it's my home course
Los Robles Greens
Walked the Blacks (70.1/124/6304) in 3H, 15 playing mid morning as a single. The weather was around 75, partly cloudy and breezy.
The customer service from both the pro shop & the starter was excellent, they got me out quickly playing as a single. The cart gal came around several times.
The tees were well maintained, fairly lush and mostly level.
The fairways had good coverage, probably 2/3 lush and 1/3 thin.
The rough also had good coverage close to the fairways. Mowed down and not overly penal. There are some hardpan bare spots where the turf removal program kicked in farther from the fairways.
The newly conditioned traps have nice sand that is currently plentiful.
The poa annua greens putted medium fast and were firm but still held approach shots well.
Another change they have made to the layout is removing the man made lake directly in front of #9 green and replacing it with a huge waste bunker. That plus enlarging the waste bunker behind #9 green make it a great risk/reward short par 4.
Decent mid level alternative, shorter, hilly course that is currently in good condition and worth it if you get a good rate. Recommended.
Los Robles
Walked the Blacks (70.1/124/6304) in 3H, 20M on the GK voucher playing mid day as a single. The weather was around 75, clear and breezy. First time playing here in almost 1 1/2 years, they have made some nice changes. Numerous bunkers have been enlarged and they have planted native grass in many of them that will be nasty when it grows up. They have also enlarged the faces of numerous bunkers. Numerous grass areas of the rough have also been taken out as part of turf reduction for water conservation. Finally, even more oak trees have been trimmed or removed. Missing the fairway here is not as penal as it was a decade ago after many large trees have been trimmed or removed. The tees were very good, fairly lush and well maintained. Both the fairways and rough had good coverage. I would categorize them as 2/3 lush and 1/3 thin. The rough also has some hardpan bare spots with the turf removal program. I was very impressed with the newly conditioned traps. You could tell they have built up the faces on some and expanded others. A new trap between holes #2 & #7 will come into play if you are long & left of either hole. The poa annua greens putted nice. Firm, medium fast bordering on fast & holding approach shots well. The customer service from both the pro shop & the starter was excellent, they got me out quickly playing as a single. The cart gal came by 3 different times. Decent alternative, hilly shorter course that is worth it if you get a good rate. Recommended.
Week-end Visit
We played Memorial Day week-end in the afternoon.
The course was over-booked and the greens extremely slow. We paid for 18 holes but left after 13. We had family events scheduled and the course was too backed up for us to finish in time.
This was our first experience at this course. Next time we will try it on a week-day.
Good course for the rate
Solid course with many noticeable improvements to the course in progress
