About
Castle Oaks Golf Club is situated on the historic Preston Farmlands. The Preston Castle, built in 1894 overlooks the rolling, oak-studded hills of the course. The course opened a century later but it blends in beautifully with the existing terrain, utilizing the Sutter and Mule Creeks and mature trees as natural hazards. When the golf course opened it was acclaimed as the best public course in northern California and it has remained one of the area's premier courses. The layout has an interesting mix of holes with some that are wide and forgiving and others that are narrow and play alongside environmental hazards. The meandering creeks and several lakes come into play throughout. There are many risk/reward opportunities and golfers will encounter several hazards and out-of-bounds off the tee, but overall the course is player-friendly enough to appeal to any skill level.

Castle Oaks comes from the old castle-looking build seen from the 16th fairway, that was the 1st juvenile detention facility in CA built in the the early 1900s. It was closed in the 1970s. Photo submitted by Cops1998 on 07/28/2018

Sloppy fairways but fast greens
Some holes had marshy fairway conditions and uneven grass. Although it had only been a week since some heavy rains, I expected the drainage to be better. We we also held up by a groundskeeper moving when we were trying to tee off. The greens were mostly really good and fast, something we didn't expect. O really a nice course but needs some attention.
Tule Time
Love the well groomed, varied terrain and course features. Some holes difficult and some forgiving. So fun to play.
The comfortable professionalism of Joey Mata and Pat Curran create an atmosphere of “Welcome Home”.
Shoutout to Butch for his pride in Cart maintenance. The level of our golf experience is enhanced riding in by far the cleanest carts in the region.
Clean and forgiving but challenging,
This is a very fun and clean course to play. Also, it is challenging and forgiving at the same time. I just wish that the food was better more food better prices would make us much easier.

Great course layout. The fairways could be in a little better condition, but overall the course was good.

This is a great course in great condition even in the winter. Greens roll true and fast fairways are kept well.

No cart and slow play!
The play was slow and had to wait 20 minutes after tee time for a cart. Therefore didn’t get in 18 holes.

Snack bar was closed at 3 on a Sunday! I love the course and people working there are excellent.
Maybe leave some sandwiches at the restaurant when closing for golfer purchase at the turn. Thanks

Great course!
If you like narrow fairways and Lester hazards this course is for you! It’s a fun course and is challenging. I totally recommend it. Also you can see the castle when you drive in.

Nice course!
Challenging layout. Greens are in good shape. Fairways are in decent shape. Bunkers were ok. I was only in two. One was nice, the other one could have used more sand.
I would play here again.

Horrible Pace of Play
Sadly I could not play the back 9 as it would've taken over 5 1/2 hours. The staff is always friendly but the course has some maintenance issues. Too bad because it's a nice layout.
