About
Castle Oaks Golf Club is situated on the historic Preston Farmlands. The Preston Castle, built in 1894 overlooks the rolling, oak-studded hills of the course. The course opened a century later but it blends in beautifully with the existing terrain, utilizing the Sutter and Mule Creeks and mature trees as natural hazards. When the golf course opened it was acclaimed as the best public course in northern California and it has remained one of the area's premier courses. The layout has an interesting mix of holes with some that are wide and forgiving and others that are narrow and play alongside environmental hazards. The meandering creeks and several lakes come into play throughout. There are many risk/reward opportunities and golfers will encounter several hazards and out-of-bounds off the tee, but overall the course is player-friendly enough to appeal to any skill level.

Castle Oaks comes from the old castle-looking build seen from the 16th fairway, that was the 1st juvenile detention facility in CA built in the the early 1900s. It was closed in the 1970s. Photo submitted by Cops1998 on 07/28/2018

Awesome course
Maybe one of the best places to play around the area. The staff is always nice and the carts are very clean and new. The greens are always in oerfect condition.

Great Course Worth of the Drive
The course condition has improved a lot since I played couple years ago. Fairways and greens were in great shaple and every hole feature different layouts that you have to plan for your next shots.
Driving from Folsom takes little bit of time but it is defenetly worth it.
This course has the perfect yardage for everage lady golfers from the red tee.. This made our rounding so much fun!.
Perfect for a single
There is always a spot for a single and the course is great.
Need to pick up pace
Need a Marshall, pace of play was ridiculous
Also, although not their fault due to water restrictions, fairways were completely dried out.
The course good except all the fairways were badly in need of water they were brown and very hard
Fairways needed watering but accetable during a drought year.
Previously one of my favorites!
Course was extremely dry! Greens are in good shape! Pace of play was inconsistent!
love Castle
Always been one of my favorites except for 18. I've played Castle roughly 50 times and have only parred it 5 or so. I don't mind a challenge but even from the whites its almost a 3 shots to get to the green hole. Why not put the tee boxes higher up the hill and make it a par 5? I mean there's plenty of room up there.Then it would be a 72 par. I think this would make the drive home from the course much better for 90% of us!!!
Very slow play
The day we played they were sending everyone off the back 9. The started did not mention that we would be behind five groups of fivesomes. Turns off the starter had a skins game going with these groups. Play was so slow, we quit after playing 9 holes. Will not be going back.

They sent us off the back and we were behind 5 groups of fivesomes. Starter never mentioned took three hours to play 9 holes. Apparently on Wednesday the starter has a skins games and after that there’s a twilight games. Never going back.

Fun course to play. Greens were in excellent condition. Would definitely recommend. Always enjoy playing Castle Oaks.
