Castle Oaks Golf Club
About
Castle Oaks Golf Club is situated on the historic Preston Farmlands. The Preston Castle, built in 1894 overlooks the rolling, oak-studded hills of the course. The course opened a century later but it blends in beautifully with the existing terrain, utilizing the Sutter and Mule Creeks and mature trees as natural hazards. When the golf course opened it was acclaimed as the best public course in northern California and it has remained one of the area's premier courses. The layout has an interesting mix of holes with some that are wide and forgiving and others that are narrow and play alongside environmental hazards. The meandering creeks and several lakes come into play throughout. There are many risk/reward opportunities and golfers will encounter several hazards and out-of-bounds off the tee, but overall the course is player-friendly enough to appeal to any skill level.

Most of the greens are kidney shaped, designed perpendicular to the fairway, so you don't want to go long, but plenty of run left/right Photo submitted by Cops1998 on 07/28/2018

Castle Oaks comes from the old castle-looking build seen from the 16th fairway, that was the 1st juvenile detention facility in CA built in the the early 1900s. It was closed in the 1970s. Photo submitted by Cops1998 on 07/28/2018

Helpful Staff
I had some issues booking our 4s ome. But the staff at the counter was helpful and we were able to enjoy the day.
First time at Castle Oaks
My first time visiting was on a Tuesday and I just showed up as a single and the clubhouse guy said he couldn't get me out for 3 hours. The next time I went to GolfNow and I scheduled. There were 8 times from 730 to 830 - I signed up as a single on the 830 time. Got there 45 minutes early and even though it was my first time I went out by myself. I was the first one out and no one behind me so I got to know the course and hit a few different shots like on the last hole that offers different fairways. Hole number 12 was memorable - there was the Mulligan Shop at the tee and I also found 2 trees 100 yards out from the green.
Awsome Course!
The course layout is moderately challenging which makes it very inviting to play. Although there are a few saturated spots , the conditions on tees and fairways were very nice.
Putting somewhat fast but true, the ball pretty much went the way I anticipated it going which made the putting experience very pleasurable. All in all a very nice golf experience for a 40 year player.

no problem
Course is in shape,,there should be more roped off areas where it is muddy,,this would be good for the course to heal.
Greens were in good shape
Definitely lift, clean and place but the greens were in good shape.
Castle Oaks 11-11-21
Course was good but not great. Several greens have dead spots. Tee boxes were inconsistent and the fairways were a bit too long. This is a great layout and the staff are excellent. Hopefully, just an off period for conditions. One of my favorites in the area!
Good course
Needs to mow more often so there’s not big piles of grass to lose balls in
Getting better
Greens, fairways are upgraded since last playing here approx 4 months ago. Staff always friendly
It used to be nice
Sadly this course has seen better days. The greens looked like they hadn’t been cut in a week. They were so shaggy it took until after noon for all the moisture to evaporate off. There were random dead spots on many of the greens. Several of the tee boxes were in poor shape and the fairways and rough were intermittently long and unkempt or dry and dead.
This course used to be one of my favorite tracks. It has such a great layout. I’m hopeful they’re just temporarily short staffed and will eventually get the conditions under control again.
Sweet Day
Nice round. Super pace. Friendly staff as always.
Greens and much of the turf was not up to CO Standards, however.
Hope conditions improve before our Oct. 9 event.

Nice Course!
I really would have enjoyed it more if there was drinking water on the course and if Golf Moose discounts weren't restricted to after noon times. Other than those two things it is a lovely golf experience. Nice facilities, driving range with free range balls provided, putting area all centrally located. Course starter is friendly and right at the first hole. Carts are clean with small ice chests for your drinks on the carts. Challenging layout and greens, but not so challenging as to be frustrating for the casual golfer. We paid full price since it was a humid weekend and we did not wish to wait until after noon to play.
Hotdogs
Couldn’t get a hotdog in the restaurant I was told I would have to walk across the way to the snack shack
Lunch
Sat down in the restaurant daughter a hotdog and fries and we’re told we couldn’t get that there we had to go to the snack shack I would think if you’re in the restaurant you can order hot dog
Wait then wait some more
If you are a single to not expect to be waived through. The locals here today not care one bit. It is so disrespectful I can’t even put it into words.
