The Club at Savannah Harbor
About
The Club at Savannah Harbor is steeped in Southern charm, offering dramatic views that span from the surrounding wetlands of the Back River to Savannah's famous Historic District. Sam Snead and Bob Cupp designed the golf course. Their ultimate goal was to bring to life the philosophy of "risk and reward." For example, a well executed shot placed near a hazard is rewarded with less club to the green or a better approach angle, or even both. The putting surfaces have gentle transitions to different pin locations, making them more traditional than modern. The designers incorporated another classic design element, the greens have subtle roll-offs or collars that fall away, a feature of golf courses from the 1930s and 40s. Golfers can also use the club's large, duel-ended practice facility.

Soggy
Try to play this course when it is dry. If it has rained in the previous couple of days of your tee time, it will be very soggy.
Great management, good golf course.
This is a very well run club with a pristine club house, excellent staff, and great customer service. The course is very well maintained and you get the sense throughout the round that there is attention to detail regarding every aspect of your experience on and off the course. It is not, however, a great golf course and had I paid the rack rate to play I would have felt disappointed. It is a very large course, sitting on a sprawling parcel of land. While the fairways are moderately wide, there is ample room to recover from all but the worst of shots. The flat nature of the property and its proximity to marshland make for a somewhat one-dimensional course, with similar shots and strategy on a large number of holes. For the most part the holes are either straight forward with little to intimidate the player, or they abut wetlands/water and present a risk-reward approach; bail out or risk a lost ball.
Great course
There were a few soggy spots but overall course in great shape. Rough was thick and fast greens rolled true.
Scolars
We got an excellent price on Golf Now. They have 1 tee time per day which is at least half the price, so I grab it when I come. The clubhouse and staff is as good as it gets. We had breakfast before the round and it was excellent. Since we came early the starter was able to get us in about 2 hours before our schedule time ! The course is beautiful with lots of vistas. It is challenging and fun. It was a little wet from occasional rain but did not deter our round. Always play the tees that suit your game and it will be enjoyable.
Can’t believe how far it has declined
Firstly and unknown to us at the time of booking there was a motor racing event at the old circuit next to the course. The noise was unbearable. The range was closed as a result and the promised range balls were obviously not forthcoming.
Secondly, there were 6 ridiculous pin positions, and I mean that if you missed a putt your next shot was a wedge.
Thirdly, if you missed the fairway by a yard or two the ball would sink into the semi rough and be very difficult to find.
Do they really think that these circumstances will encourage golfers to return,? Not in our case.
A Warm Walk in Savannah
We visited here on an October day that tied a 100-year heat record with a heat index at 115. That is hotter than it gets in my part of Texas.
This golf course is on an island in the Savannah River. There are more aggressive mosquitos here than almost anywhere we have played.
This course is managed by Troon so all the employees here are first class. The pro shop was friendly as was the starter and Carrie in the grill.
We were using a good mosquito repellent but these bugs were not deterred. They attacked us through our clothing.
The course is flat with wide fairways. The greens are mostly very small, and narrow and were rolling about a ten. There are not a lot of
impressively designed holes or tricked up elevations here. What you see is what you get.
The wide fairways are an illusion. They have created a deep rough on both sides of the fairway that undulates and meanders. On one hole the draw will disappear and on the following hole, your fade is lost. The fairways are thick and slow with no roll.
There wasn't a lot of play today and our friendly starter allowed us to start at number 10. They named this hole Slamming Sammie in honor of Sam Snead, one of the course designers. Hole 10 is a short easy
dogleg right with bunkers in the front right. The nasty hole is #17. There is a huge lake in front of a narrow uphill green into the prevailing wind.
This course is more difficult with slow fairways and distracting mosquitos. They definitely need to start a mosquito abatement program
ASAP or hope for a very cold winter.
Great place to play
This is my 4th or 5th time playing the course. It’s always been in great shape. The club house is beautiful, the staff is very professional, the carts are upgraded with padded seating and GPS, the course was in great shape, the greens are almost perfect. Only issue I had was being attacked by mosquitos in the left side of hole 13 and 14. Other than that A+.
First class amenities
This is a great resort course. Impeccable condition.
A very nice course off the beaten path.
Overall the course was wonderful and well managed. Greens rolled well and were in good condition. There were a few places the fairways were a little wet but there had been some rain. The layout was good and the greens were very large. The sand in the traps was excellent and the traps were well maintained. We played the silver tees which were a little under 6,000 yards.
Course is always nice but I was very disappointed this time.
Course is always in great shape and every category is A+ but this time the greens were still in recovery from punching a week or 2 prior and it affected the putting. Normally this is listed on the tee time and I would stay away from this course atm. This time it was not on the listing that the greens weren’t under repair and it wasn’t worth the money.
Great course!
Staff is ALWAYS great! From the guys who pick up your clubs, check you in to the nice ladies at the bar/lounge...couldn’t ask for a nicer group of people. And the course is nice and long; the greens were recuperating from recent aeration but it didn’t lessen my experience.... pace was good ( I play early)...Great venue for golfers of all skill levels. Gators were out too!
Surprised!
When I booked our tee time I was informed that the greens had been aerated, however, we were surprised at the amount of sand on each green. The maintenance crew was out cutting the soaking wet grass leaving behind clumps of grass. There were major repairs underway with shovels and large holes present as we approached one of the greens. I would never play this course in June but not everyone can get to a course like this during the prime season.
Nice layout - poor timing
Played front nine twice as back nine was closed. Greens were aerified 2 days prior and were totally sand. Unfortunate timing but did play on a big discount so not worst case scenario. Layout was challenging. Staff did let us drive the back nine to see the layout which was appreciated. Look forward to playing under normal conditions some day. As the course layout is well done.
good for the price
I drove an hour to play because 1) I got a great deal on golf now($41) and 2) it was ranked on one golf site as the the third best course you can play in Georgia. The condition of the course was excellent and the people were friendly. I would play the court again at that price but seriously, the third best public course in Georgia? No really memorable holes. Play it if you are in the area and can get a good rate, but don't go out of your way to play it
Best course around
This is the best course in town by far. Look out for the hot deals on GolfNow and you can play for less than some of the average courses in the area.
