Marshal
The course needs a Marshal to keep things moving along. No matter how much work you put into a good golf course that this is, and it is getting better & better, it is all for nothing if it takes five hours plus to play it. It's the returning golfers that makes a golf course successful.
Bunkers Go Bye-Bye. Breaks My Heart.
It's been my go to course the past 20+ years, because I've loved the layout and difficulty. Also, the greens are pretty much always in wonderful condition. However, the condition of the teeboxes and bunkers has always left a lot to be desired.
So, the new owner's answer was to begin work on the teeboxes a few months ago....nice......and to REMOVE THE VAST MAJORITY of the bunkers rather than repair and maintain them.
There might have been a very few (3-4) bunkers that rarely, if ever came into play, so those...not a great loss. But the literally dozens and dozens of other bunkers that have been and continue to be removed have been an intricate and key part of Arnold Palmer's
original 5-STAR design. Arnie has to be "rolling over in his grave", and I know would agree with me when I say it is no longer his Hiddenbrooke. To me, it's "sacrilegious" to do this to an award winning Palmer course that once hosted (for 3 consecutive years) the LPGA's Samsung World Championship. I will continue to play Hiddenbrooke for it's topography, naturally beautiful surroundings and quality greens (though maybe not as often) and when I do I will always shake my head as I FEEL THE LOSS OF AN ORIGINAL Arnold Palmer 5-star course that once existed in all it's original glorious design.
A great day at HiddenBrooke
Yesterday was a fantastic day. Weather in 80's.I traveled from Elk Grove and the saffron was very courteous in changing times for me. Traffic Nightmares in the 80. The course itself was in the best shape I've seen it in. Allot of the upgrades around the course are appearing. Some of the stairs though near greens and tee boxes are in need of repair. I didn't care for the concrete ones on hole 10. Pace was atrocious People 3 groups up held back a train of groups, the round was nearing 6 hours I felt. This isn't the easiest of courses, and you shouldn't play here if you don't understand etiquette. It's not a beginners course from any tee.
I recommend you check this place out if your isnermadiat to good golfer. Only hope you don't have people messing up your game with slow sloth play. Staff was very helpful as I said before. Looking forward to another round there.
Awesome golf!
Enjoyed playing Hiddenbrooke with awesome golf buddies!
Nice course.
Course needs a little bit of upkeep. Has lots of potential plus knowledgeable well mannered staff.
Challenging layout
Several force carries and lay up shots to challenge yourself
??
not sure what is going on at this course.
piles of dirt everywhere and lots of roped off areas. renovating?
Make it Happen!
Great course up in the hills above Vallejo, can be a pretty challenging track with a ton of fun holes. Tee boxes have gotten better from the years past once Troon took over, don’t forget to claim your Troon points!
Greens are usually rolling smooth, green keepers can keep you in your toes with some pin placements. Get out early if you want to avoid any waiting, popular course so will get busy!!
Still a Value but Course has been in better shape
A majority of the fairways are in great condition, the greens are hard to hold but not too fast but some of the sand traps need a lot of work and there are areas of the fairway that need to be redone. When this course is in its best shape, it's one of the best in the bay area.
Nice course
Michael in the pro shop was wonderful, friendly and professional ! I was running late and he was friendly and accommodating..
The fairways were spotty with wet and bare spots.
Some Bunkers are under repair.
Green was nice and course layout is challenging.
I were play again.
Always Hidden & Found At Hiddenbrooke
I have always loved this course. Regardless of condition, I always see workers working on the course.
Some of my best rounds have come here, regardless of condition.
Keep the ball in play and have a shot.
When the course is soft it’s gettable. When it’s firm look out!
Many bunkers have been removed and replaced by what will be grass I assume. Feels more like a links course with elevation now.
It’s never been a poor ball strikers course.
Hit it well and have a chance.
A great back nine.
Always look forward to the first tee as well. It has great driving holes on front and back, with some treacherous greens.
