Hiddenbrooke review. October 2017
Got a great deal on GolfNow.
The greens need some TLC.
The bunkers are a bit light on sand.
Overall though, I love the layout of the course and more than half of the holes have character.
Hoping that Troon will be able to get this course back to the way it was at the beginning. At that time it rated 5 stars, across the board.
Very Nice Comeback
Follow up to a 4 star review a few months back: The tee boxes are improved and flatter...nice work. I have played Black or Blue tees for the entire year and seen about Six rounds this year here.
The GREENS WERE FABULOUS! Tour quality and fast. They have been good all year...today they were a perfect 10. At least running 12 on stimpmeter.
There are still some dry spots on the course with grass nearby, and some overly wet spots near greens where ball plugs, that's an easy fix. Course looks great and plays tough right now. Rough and sand looks good too in most spots, they are not there to be easy. Any complaints about the course are not warranted at this time. I shot rounds of 73, 71, 70, and 68 here this year(had it to 6 under at one point thru 16). Had a tough time breaking 80 today! Perfect weather and a perfect track once again. Thanks.
Love it
Cant get enough of this course, love the layouts and the challenges.
Course is in terrible conditions. Fairways are dried out. Tee boxes are in terrible shape. Rough is kept too long for amateurs. Barely missed the fairway on several holes. I wasn't able to find my ball in the rough. It's a shame because it use to be an awesome course that I didn't mind spending the money on.
Great value..challenging course, good condtions, good pace, great staff
A hidden gem
Great & challenging layout, high tee boxes, staff always friendly & helpful.
This Arnold Palmer design has seen better days
Rumor has it the owner asked for a bare bones management contract. So there is not real sand in the bunkers, fairways have bald spots and the restaurant closes at 5:00.
The course has plenty of challenge and the layout provides something for everyone. I play this course a few times each year and the past few years have not seen improvement in course conditions.
On a sunny Friday, the course had few backups and played smoothly as long as you can find a tee box not under repair.
I have enjoyed this course for the past 15 years but this is the worst condition I have seen it.
Recommended if you can live with less then perfect conditions for the rates charged.
Hiddenbrooke needs love
I usually love this course, but when I played the course was NOT in great shape, bathrooms not stocked, and no Marshal to keep it moving...over 5 hours and I could not finish the last two holes it went so long!
Funny! He didn't comp my round after a bad review.
The head of management contacted me and let me know That they are working hard to improve the course. He comped me a round and took excellent care of me. That's the best customer service I've seen in a very long time. I love Hiddenbrooke golf course, I will be back!
Sad state of neglect.
Friendly staff and beautiful views. Greens are a disaster with competing strains of grasses making for a ridiculous bumpy mess. Burnt fairways, lumpy trashed tee boxes, dead animal carcasses on several holes, trash and litter strewn about, overgrown rough, unkempt wooded areas flowing out onto the course, bunkers filled with more mud and rocks than sand, trashed driving range with little to no grass on the hitting surface. I don't think that this is what Arnold Palmer had in mind. Hopefully Troon can turn this place around because a beautiful course like this should be taken care of. I was told tee boxes and bunkers are scheduled to be cleaned up. I was also told that "Troon can only improve the course as much as the owner is willing to invest in the process." Sadly I won't be back anytime soon. Yocha Dehe and Diablo Grande are much better Troon courses for the money. Hiddenbrook does have one thing going for it, its dirt cheap. Guess you get what you pay for...
The greens were in terrible condition as was the tee boxes. Fairways were flooded and rough about 3" tall
Neglected
The course is in deplorable condition. Burnt fairways, mud filled bunkers, Greens checkered with two grasses make for a ridiculously bumpy mess, lumpy barely covered tee boxes, several rancid animal carcasses on multiple holes, driving range trashed, and litter strewn across the property. Arnold Palmer's name should be removed from the property. According to staff they're currently working on refurbishing the tee boxes and then the bunkers in the spring. Maybe TROON can bring this place around again. I won't be returning anytime soon. Sad to see such a gem of a course falling apart. Apparently the owner is unwilling or unable to fork over the Necessary funds to properly maintain the facility. I hope he sells it and opens up a put put course. Sounds like that's a better fit for him since there's no maintenance involved with one.
Mud Pit
Tee boxes were a mess.
Greens were punched not too long ago, multiple types of grass on greens causing terrible rolls.
Fairways were a swamp, over watered.
They tout the course was on roto for the LPGA, AND it is an Arnold Palmer design, but, as it stands, it's a complete mess.
Hopefully Troon's money and management will make this cool layout actually playable.
Hiddenbrooke
Still a very solid course. The conditions (bunkers under repair) we're a little below par, but overall the course was in decent shape. Absolutely a great deal $33 on a Saturday including (I normally walk, but it was 98○).
Awesome Course
Hiddenbrook is an amazing course which challenges the best players and delivers on great shots.
The tee boxes are cycling and are being repaired so the front boxes are in use making the Par 5s reachable in two strokes.
I say for three Eagles yesterday and shot a 73.
Totally agree. I hope they turn this place around. Its seriously a shame to let such an awesome course rot.
