Great Course
The only negative I will say is the tee boxes aren't in the best shape. Otherwise the fairways and greens were terrific.
Course not very well maintained
At one time this was a tour caliber course which hosted the LPGA for several years but that hasn't happened in 15 years or so. The tee boxes and fairways were extremely dry, with dead grass and bald spots of dirt. The greens were not well maintained and the putting surface was bumpy and uneven (I could see the ball hopping the entire way to the cup). The cart paths from one hole to another was overgrown was 4 feet tall weeds adding to my allergies and the overall unattractive aesthetics of the course. It looks like they rarely water the fairways/greens and they certainly haven't mowed any time recently. I was very disappointed in the course condition. Additionally, I noticed that there was no cart service with beverages and snacks. My colleagues told me that they have never seen a snack cart working in Hiddenbrooke. Sadly, I will not be golfing here again.
Hiddenbrooke G.C. State of course.
I like this course. Everything is good, except for some tee boxes that need some T.L.C.
No excuse
I've played here much in the past, and with the amount of moisture we've had this year there's no excuse for the tee-boxes to look that bad. Mounded and barren are the only way to describe what we played on. Also the bunkers looked and felt like they hadn't been raked in months. Grounds crew should be fired.
Just ok
Winter rain may have had something to do with course conditions. Bunkers just pull your ball out, don't bother no sand and water cracks and hard as rocks. Tee boxes need lots of work. They need to take half out of service and level them out . Could not find a flat tee box. Fairways and greens in good shape. Not my first choice but would come back for the right price.
A Bay Area Secret Treasure
I had the privilege of playing a bay area hidden classic "Hiddenbrooke" in Vallejo,Ca. From the top notch staff to a course that challenged me and improved my game. The Hiddenbrooke Golf Course is a must play venue. Truly an outstanding high quality golf experience.
P.S. For us regular folk, your chances of rubbing up against Bay area sports legends is pretty good.
Lpga left, now I know why
Where do I begin? tee box like a sand trap, cart path more like off roading pavement was cracked, broken, bumpy !, beverage cart I've seen once......rough was 6 inches to 2 ft high...green was patchy... it was ridiculously bad in sight... I remember this course way back when it was first built and it lost alll and I mean all attraction....
Tee boxes are terrible
All 18 tee boxes are in need of repair. They are all lacking grass and level footing. Way too many divots not leveled providing uneven footing. Sand traps are lacking sand therefore unplayable. Arnold Palmer is rolling over in his grave with embarrassment with these conditions on one of his courses. No course Marshall 's available during round when play slowed at 14th tee and for rest it the round.
The tee boxes are a little beat up but the greens were great.
it would be nice if there were 150yd landmarks to help gauge approach shots when on the fairway. The markers on the cart path are sometimes missing or difficult to see.
Really fun course to play. The hot dog and onion rings were terrific and didn't break the bank.
Super beautiful Arnold Palmer design golf course with plenty of private rolling hills that really standout!
Enjoyed driving the golf cart.. lots of rolling hills. The views are spectacular! The beautiful course is fun and challenging. The putting greens are large and rolling.. The green speed is fast and fair.. Fun golfing experience!
Not what it used to be.
Raved about this course to my golf buddy and couldn't wait to take him but it was clear on the first hole that it's not even close to the well maintained course it was when I last played it 10 years ago. The LPGA used to hold a Major here and now the course looks like every other muni around. Arnold Palmer designed the course so 10-12 of holes are still pretty cool but they are in bad shape. I'm sure the prolonged drought was the culprit here so I'll check back in next spring to see the course is coming along.
overgrown fairways and bad T boxes
course in horrible shape, high grass and big clumps of grass cuttings made it unplayable; losing balls on the fairway due to clumps of cut grass; T boxes horrible. Won't play here again for over $70 when played Blue rock last week for $40 and in much better shape
Fantastic Layout, Very Challenging, Poorly Maintained
Title sums up most of my thoughts. The layout was really quite nice. The back 9 is exceptional, holes 13 and 14 are standouts.
The roughs weren't cared for at all. Tee boxes weren't level and taken care of. Greens were recently aerated, speeds varied from green to green, but they were in good shape. Sand traps ranged from dreadful to "under repair". Course would have been very challenging even in great shape, but in its current condition, the course was dreadfully difficult. Bring many sleeves of balls.
Staff was very nice, both pro shop and grille were excellent.
Would love to return and see this course properly taken care of. In great shape, they could charge double and fill a tee sheet.
Great course, bad day for grooming
I always enjoy playing at Hiddenbrooke. It is one of the best in the Bay and offers a good challenge. Unfortunately, the course needs a haircut badly and having knee high grass in the rough is a bit too much.
Lost several balls that appeared to just barely leave the fairway and even lost a ball or two in the fairway under clippings. I take pride in the number of balls I bring home after a round. Will certainly come back but after they call the barber. Also, remove loose grass clippings in fairway and second cut. Thanks....
Course needs work.
I remember playing Hiddenbrooke years ago and the course conditions were immaculate. I couldn't say that after playing yesterday. The greens had been aerated 2 weeks prior...so they were looking good. The majority of the tee boxes on the back side especially need to weeded and reseeded. I don't remember one green-side bunker that was playable. In some cases the drainage pipes were showing. The fairways on the backside were soggy and in some areas unplayable They were not marked as such. The fairway roughs needed to be mowed. Looked like they had been when the grass was wet as there were clumps of cut grass throughtout.
In all fairness, the area had just received record amounts of rain during the month of February and it got a good soaking on Friday. I'm hoping the maintenance crew will be working to improve the course conditions as the rains begin to subside and we have better weather.
The food and beverage director was spectacular. We called from Hole #10 asking about the beverage cart...said it was on the front nine servicing the tournament players. Understood, but within minutes...there she was...didn't have coffee, but went back to the clubhouse and brought us back some all before we finished the 10th hole Now that is service!!
I'll be back and hoping for a better experience.
