Split Personality!
Blue Rock Springs West is one of my favorite courses in the East Bay of San Francisco: I play it every trip west, which is annually. What makes it interesting -- and frustrating -- is that it has a split personality!
The front nine is a traditional layout, with moderate ups and downs, hazards strategically placed and accommodating fairways. The back nine feels like a mountain goat layout, with wide fairways, but steep terrain that challenge the distanced-impaired golfer.
Although I had the best round of my early season there, it was a struggle. . . but, it being golf, I enjoyed it! The fairways and greens are in good shape (recent rain had helped the earlier dry conditions); some of the tee boxes are a bit beat-up, but not naked.
Granted, it is early in the season, so maybe not everyone is in the groove yet, but Staff seems to have changed, as they lean toward efficiency more than friendliness. . . that is the opposite of what my previous experiences have been. Things will mellow as time smoothes the operational glitches, I suppose.
All in all, BRS-West delivers a prime golf course and a perfect day. . . and for me, a great start to a young season!
Love Blue Rock
West course was my first experience learning to play golf! I love it and hope they keep it going strong.
AWESOME COURSE!!!
One of the best in Solano County. Very well kept and challenging. Some bunkers were a little bit too compact but other than that, this is a beautiful course.
Great layout the green can use a little TLC
But overall best value for your money
Great day at Blue Rock Springs
Pace of play turned out to be fine on Saturday which isn't always the case. The greens on the west side have some kind of fungus going on with round brown spots frequently that keep the ball from rolling true, fairways were great and tee boxes good.Bunkers could use some sand but playable none the less.I guess the only pet peeve I have there is there is no cart girl and the resterant/snack area closes at 5:00 so ya can't have a beer afterward and talk about the game unless you start at 10:00-11:00.
Okay Conditions
Course condition is good to very good except some of the greens are starting to develop brown spot disease but no big deal yet. Staff very friendly and overall, I’ll recommend.
Good value
This is a very nice facility and has lots of charm! Course and greens were in excellent shape! Keep up the good work!
The Rock
Great place to play. No need to swim for freedom after round. Enjoy a snack and adult beverage before you go.
Well kept, always affordable
Blue Rock continues to be a solid choice. I don't like that they close a full hour before sunset, but if you know that in advance you can book accordingly. The course is well kept, pace of play is great, and there are some good challenges out there.
Cons: No food/beverage cart. Ridic overpriced snack bar.
$29 to ride 18 holes on a Sat morning can't be beat though!
Fun, challenging golf course
I started playing this course a few years ago and enjoy it very much. Most of the course layout is very traditional. Tree lined on many holes and has some very challenging holes and is a very good challenge. After the recent rains, certain spots on the course were very wet, yet I enjoy this course every time I get to play it
Non-holiday play
Blue Rock Springs West course is a great course to golf on a week day. During the weekend, as with any course, it can be crowded. The crowds bring persons who have no clue about rules, as twice people have hit our balls!
You can walk this course, but we ride as I have a total knee replacement and there are a few steep hills.
West Side Is The Best Side
The course was in good shape and the pace was OK. FInished in less then 4 hours and never had to wait for the group ahead. Good around layout that will test your shot making skills.
Both courses at Blue Rock are great challenges....
I always enjoy playing here with the elevated tee and interesting holes,So much better then your normal flat muni.We played the West course which basically has four different legs you go up then down so it keeps play interesting.Course was in good shape with how cold its been, greens ran fast and fairways were nice.We had a great round with two people that were paired with us and finished in about 4+hours.Thought our cart was gonna die a couple times but it chugged up the hills and made it to the end,you do pass the clubhouse on the 9-10 hole were you can get a cold draft and some good burgers.
Good value
Course in nice shape. Bunkers raked and in good shape. Got off the first tee on time. Pace of play was good. Overall, very nice round. Will definitely play there again.
