great layout
I always enjoy playing Blue Rock. The staff is very friendly and is always nice. I love playing at Blue Rock.
Hiddewn gem in Vallejo
We hit good but windy weather. The course was in pretty good shape for the middle of a drought. The bunkers were inconsistant. The 4 hour round was a bonus.
Happy retirement
Weather was perfect. Course in good shape other than some minor drainage issues in spots.
The old west
Hadn't played west course in a while. Course was in good condition. Won't hesitate to go back. Next time I'll play the east.
Fun morning
Shame on me, I arrived two minutes before my tee time.
I was whisked to the first tee, and apologized to my group.
It was chilly at 7:04 a.m., until partway into the back.
The greens were slow early, I think because of the mist and dew. They were fine later.
The fairways were very nice, as were the tees.
The bunkers were very well cared for, to me a sign that the greenskeeper takes pride in the course.
The course is very enjoyable. There is change in elevation, doglegs, water (though not penal nor intimidating), and some fun carries. It was perfect for my 18 handicap.
My only negative: Why allow fivesomes?
The course is a great bargain, and very enjoyable. Give it a try.
Excellent variety of holes
I have been playing Blue Rock since the days of a single course. Adding the East course and revamping some on the holes on the west now offers two distinct courses. I favor the west for it's traditional tree lined fairways and hitting a fade and draw is required. I use the East course often to work on my shot selection as it's a forgiving course. Don't let it fool you though, hard to find a flat spot in these fairways.
Home sweet home
I live in MN and when I come home to Vallejo it is a ritual for me to play Blue Rock courses. The west course is flatter and can be walked, the east side has more hills...and can walk for a great workout. I ride in a cart when I get the deals to do so. Love this course, for the nostalgia ritual and because it's a great course.
Go play
I've not played this course for years and I've also never seen it in better shape. Somebody there knows what they're doing and it's nice to see! I'm adding it to my list of courses to play more often..
This course is great and always fun to play.
I have an opportunity to play every Sunday and if I could, I would play at Blue Rock everyday.
Need to work on course management
There are some great employees who work at the course, unfortunately the play is slow and they are constantly sending members off the back nine. The food and beverage is good but we should have a cart girl. Also they send you off without letting people know it's slow play and the fairways or tee boxes are punched. This is just the basics. This course is usually a great value but at times the value gets overshadowed by the stated above.
Surprising
First time playing blue rock (west course) and was surprised by the location and condition of the course. I believe I paid $26 for 18 w/ a cart which is a steal for this course. You can hardly find golf that inexpensive in the Bay Area. I will be back to play the East course! Nice to know there are still nice golf courses out there that will not charge you and arm and a leg to play.
Course in good condition thanks to the rains
Marshalls need to be more attentive to slow play...two groups in front of me had 2 holes open in front of them. Other than that, course in good conditions thanks to recent rains. Public courses generally have too many unfilled divots and unrepaired ballmarks...this course no exception. Bunkers could use some sand. Too easy to lose balls in rough to right on #6 and next to green on #14--suggest you mow lower to speed play.
Not bad for a muni.
Fairways are very good. The greens on the West course are a little fuzzy.
employees at the pro shop
I have been playing at blue rocks a few times, I noticed the employees at the pro shop are not that friendly, as soon as they found out you booked through golf now.Just because I got a hot deal through golf now, I should be treated like any pay golfer.
Lacks maintenance effort
This was no great deal. The greens were not mowed for two days and the rest of the course was barely adequate although had potential due to the nice layout. Bunkers not raked and hard-pan dirt. I would not recommend this course unless GolfNow could provide some information on condition of the greens prior to booking.
Bring a book
From the 1st tee, u wait on every hole. 4 some in front teed off from blue. Dudes couldn't even hit straight. At least get the ball on the grass and move forward. And the Marshall? What is that? Never seen him around all day. And the cafe? Uh where are my fries? So all in all it was a horrible 6 hours. Save your money and time
Great Value
Both courses are great values. The courses are in fairly good shape given the lack of rain in California. The greens were in very good shape and sometimes quite challenging. I play Blue Rock all the time it is one of my favorite courses.
Great course
Excellent price.
Sometimes some of the staff can be uptight but some are very nice.
Staff member seemed upset at me when I mentioned I had a junior golfer with me on a 1pm tee time (twighlight) I mentioned I would let other golfers pass me if we were too slow. He said it wasnt a good idea
OK, not as tip-top as it has been
Drought has had some effect on the course although it's still decent. Biggest complaint was the greens on the West Course. They were punched some time back and are still a bit lumpy. Play midweek when we played was slow, more crowded than usual at mid-day.
Wonderful greens. Rolled true.
What a great surprise . Very friendly staff. Greens were magnificent. Fairways a little worn but not bad considering the drought issue we are currently going thru.
Overall, a great value. Would definitely play again.
