Wind Heaven
If you don't like the wind, don't play this course - the wind factor takes away some good things about this course - good layouts, greens in good condition - the wind takes a lot away from what could be a good experience.
Blue Rock Rocks
Great course, perfect weather, perfect conditions. Has to be one of the best muni courses in the country. Highly recommend it.
Good Value at Blue Rock Springs East
I play here frequently and enjoy the friendliness of the staff and the layout and playability of the course. The course is almost always in great shape and the greens are predictable. You don't want to be above the hole on these greens.
Perennial Favorite
Blue Rock Springs (West) is a favorite course; I play it every year that I visit California. The staff and crew are accommodating and friendly, the lunch is fresh and the folks are friendly. The course is an old-style course, with variants in elevation, hole placements and length of fairways. Greens are moderate in size, and some are downright tricky -- placement from the fairway can be critical. Good condition this year with all the rain, though there were some muddy spots and carts were restricted on several holes.
Sunny Afternoon
Course was in pretty good shape, Greens weren't to rough. Ball rolled pretty true. Sand traps need a lot of help. More like playing off concrete than out of sand. Markings on course could be much better. Not enough yardage markers to help with club selection. Definitely need a GPS unit or range finder to dial in shot distances. Hit too many over the green shots and short iron shots due to not being able to figure out the yardage very well. Could use a 200 yard post on par 5 holes to get bearings on aim.
Great Shape Considering All The Rain
Just wanted to say that the bunkers were in fantastic condition. The sand was perfect and they were well taken maintained. Perfectly raked in every way. Hard to believe that they could be so nice considering all the rain lately. My hat is off to the grounds crew. Excellent Job!
Blue East valuepack
A great value at the price. A wide array of shot values. Greens as good as courses 3 times the cost. Serious workout if you hoof it.
Still to wet to play
I love this course but the recent rains have most of the fairways to wet to play hard to find relief from occasional water . I lost balls that plugged in the fairway so deep they were not visible. The greens were in great shape. The bunkers were hard packed sand with some puddles because of the rain
Blue Rock Springs East Is Beautiful but Tough
I've been on tougher courses, but Blue Rock Springs East is tougher than most, but still fun. Play the West course if you want less up-and-down-the-hills. This the third time, and the course was in the best shape I've seen it -- the recent rains have brought most NorCal courses back to good condition. I recommend this course to seasoned players. I know I'll be back. Special tip: make sure it's not a cart-path-only day. You'll do a lot of sometimes difficult walking to get to your ball.
pleasantly surprised
have kind of passed over this track before, but no more
greens were in excellent condition (apart from a few golfer-gaffe pitch marks, recently made & promptly repaired)
recent heavy rains played some havoc with bunker sand
look forward to going back, in warmer weather
A Pleasant Surprise!
I first played Blue Rock when it was just one course, with holes on both sides of Columbus Parkway back in 1989. I've played the East course since its addition, but have never played the "new" West course, which had most of the holes of the original course. I found a "hot deal" on a rainy Saturday, and decided to give the West course a try. What a surprise!!! The new layout (new to me) was challenging, especially in the wet, rainy conditions. The fairways, tee boxes, bunkers and greens were in great shape...Kudos to the superintendent. I'll be back...in fact I'm playing there today! Bottom line - This course is just plain fun no matter your skill level.
Best kept course in the area.
While other courses appear to have trouble keeping fairways and tee boxes in great condition, Blue Rock has made major improvement over the past year. At this time no other course in this area can match Blue Rock. Greens are fast and true, fairways are timed properly and yes there is sand in the bunkers. Best value for your money.
Great Course and Value for the Money
Excellent course all round with great views. East course is a real gem.
