Eighteen Hole at Van Nuys Golf Course
About
Located just south of the airport, Van Nuys Golf Course has a unique location that provides an air show with anything from WWII Warbirds to F16 Falcons. It can be loud occasionally, but it's also one of the most affordable rounds in the area. There are two golf courses available, an 18-hole par-3 course and a nine-hole executive course. Neither of the courses are terribly formidable, but it's a great spot for getting in some practice. It's ideal for beginners but golf enthusiasts of any skill level will appreciate that the facility stays open late and both golf courses and the driving range are equipped with lights. The Van Nuys par-3 course offers good short game practice. There are a few bunkers and some strategically placed palm trees, but it's a very user-friendly golf course overall. It's even gentle enough for juniors.

Good Starter Course
Good place to start learning the game of golf not a hard course to play the Executive 9 is great if you only want to play 9 holes
Van Nuys 9 hole executive
This 9-hole executive course is fun, especially the three short par 4 holes. Out of bounds comes into play on the par 4's . Unfortunately the water hazards are all dried up so it takes away from the course appeal. Fancy clubhouse restaurant and bar is now gone for over 10 years. Snack bar has a a good menu and offers four different tap beers. lounge room is very nice to enjoy food and beverage
Course has nice greens
Great course to practice your short game. Friendly staff and considerate players. Fairways challenge you to keep your shots straight with the lined trees.
playing @ van nuys golf course
Excellent place for beginners to play and to practice your short game and good for general public people are friendly.
Van Nuys 9 Hole Executive Course
It was OK until the last hole. We were teeing off on the 9th hole when 2 guys that had already finished walked onto the green and started practicing...even taking down the flag. Despite our yelling at them to get off the green, they continued for a few minutes. Total lack of golf etiguite and extremely dangerous. There was no one around to police this or anything. They need a marshal there to prevent this and keep things moving. Sometimes people there do whatever they want. This ruins it for me.
the course has been upgraded nicely since the new management took over
the course was better than average. Quite nice for an executive.
Good practice facility
Good practice facility for locals. Okay snack bar.
Ok course, if you can manage to book.
I drive by the course all the time, so finally decided to give it a try.
Unfortunately, trying to book online is literally impossible. It appears their system does not communicate properly with GolfNow so when you try to book an open tee time, they do not send a confirmation back, so you are not able to complete the reservation.
The only way to book getting the rates is to call GolfNow directly, have them then call the golf course, hope they answer, and then get a manual booking (which at times is more expensive than what's listed on the web site.)
So by the off chance you actually get to book online and get a good deal ($4-10 is great, but I wouldn't pay the $22 for just walking up) give it a shot.
The course isn't in terrible condition, but it's not great either. Some of the mats are in better condition than others. The greens are in ok shape.
There aren't really any marshals about that I saw, which normally isn't a big problem on par 3 courses, but in the 2 times I've been I have noticed that the pace of play of the people here is *incredibly* slow.
I got stuck behind a group of 3 people all sharing one set of clubs, and taking 20 minutes per hole. A pace that'd be slow on a par 5 let along a hole that's 95 yds away.
There were also people just playing the same few holes over and over again, which is fine when there are no people waiting but becomes problematic when it starts to back up holes.
So if you just want to go golfing for as cheap as possible, this place is great when you can play for $5. Otherwise, move on.
Par3 Course
It was a fantastic time. I invited some friends and played 18holes. Not bad, the only thing it is a public course so you get the random non golfer trying to swing away. Other than that, just bring great company and enjoy a short game challenge.
Fun course
Fun course to play. Not too difficult. Great day for golf.
VN 18 Hole GC
The course was in great shape. Greens were slick and tightly cropped. Fairways had a 1st and 2nd cut. Hit off mats though. Fun and quick - no waiting.
Quick round, easy but noisy
This course is directly under the Van Nuys airport final approach, so its very noisy. The fairways are so close together that there is no rough so you have to be on your toes to stay in the right lane. All of the tee's are on asphalt with a driving range style artificial turf square and its a walking course.
It was my wife's first golf round ever and she enjoyed it because it was an easy course. No water hazards and bunkers are all in the rough.
Overall because of extremely low price, ease of play and the staff, did I mention the price? less than a movie ticket, it was worth it.
Certainly worth the price
Good way to kill an hour and get a litte practice. Got a hot deal for $3 to play this 9-hole executive. You tee off of a mat, so you get the idea of what kind of course this is. Decent practice for chipping and putting. There are 3 par-4 holes and they are all strangely in a row...all super short. 280 yds or so. Decent practice areas for chipping/putting.
Needs more maintenance...
This course is really good for beginners and really helps to practice your short game but it needs more maintenance specially needs to changed a lots of Holes signage which is really rusty and missing signage.
Fun little course
Decent course to scratch the golf fix Real good practice facility and decent course
Much improved from previous round
I have played Van Nuys off and on for the last 30 years. In the summer of 2013, I had never seen the course in worse conditions. The fairways were clearly not being watered. I must say that management have the facility around 180 degrees. It looks like some TLC is being put back into the place. Greens were in excellent condition and it resembles the golf course I grew up playing. If they keep it up, I will return for more as this is a great place to hone your skills
cheap..needs upgrade
I dont mind hitting on mat at tee off but atleast the matts should be on good condition.. lots of them are tearing up. Greens on some hole needs maintainance. Otherwise its a nice course to hone your irons. Pace of play was great considering.we played on a saturday.
The course need a lot of maintenance.
The par 3 couse needs to new mats on the tees, need new hole # signs, etc. It seems that someone has made the conscious decision to let the course go w/o any maintenance.
