2nd time playing... still needs work on the tees
Overall The Frog is a nice course. The fairways are well maintained and the greens are large and roll true. The only issue I have is the tee boxes. It really detracts from the overall quality of the course.
Disappointed with the course conditions
Its been awhile over a year and a new management co. has taken over I understand and the course needs a lot of work. First of all, it looks if no pre-emergence was put down because the fairways and around the greens are full of weeds, the bunkers have no or very little sand, but the one saving grace was the greens (bent) were perfect and rolling probably 11 to 12. The course is one of the best layouts in the greater Atlanta area but right now I would not make the long drive out there again to play it unless a lot of work is done. It's really a shame.
Beautiful!!
This place is Awesome! Staff is friendly and course is in wonderful shape! Can't wait too go back!
A nice Fazio design...but needs a bit of maintenance on the tees
This is a very nice Fazio designed course just 30 minutes west of Atlanta off I-20. The course had very nice greens but the tee boxes need some work. As a first time player, I appreciated the directional signage that were just in the right spots
Bunkers define most of the fairways and the greens drop off the edges on most holes with a shot just off the green on the fly rolling 10-20 yards away...then requiring an pitch uphill in most cases.
When I played the front nine I started to wonder why it was called The Frog as there is very little water in play (just on 4 & 8). But once you hit the back nine there are 7 holes in a row (11-18) where water is in play -- a lake, pond or stream. For example, the par 3 16th has a stream short and right of the green and the par 4 17 has a stream crossing the fairway about 30 yards short of the green. I never saw any frogs but there were plenty of wild turkeys -- visible and calling.
The only real hard green to putt was the 18th which has three tiers. Most of the others have some level of break but nothing too dramatic.
All in all, they just need to do some work on the tee boxes to make this a more even experience. ALSO>>> they have a senior rate for those over 55. Nice extra.
The Frog
This is a very good golf course just a long ways out from Atlanta but well worth the drive. Just needs warm weather for the Bermuda to pop.
THE FROG
IT HAS BEEN VERY WET THIS YEAR, VERY NICE COURSE IN THE SUMMER OR WHEN ITS NOT SO WET GREAT COURSE
Frozen and still FANTASTIC!!!!
23 degrees on my first attempt challenging "The Frog" burrrr. Well stocked pro shop, Large bar with plenty of food and beverage options overlooking the practicing area and beautiful downhill par 5 finishing hole. If you need to warm up before your round, which was a MUST for me today. The facilities allow the player to prepare for all aspects of his or her game. Driving range, putting green, chipping, and greenside bunker practice are efficienty separated/spaced out so congestion of players I imagine rarely a issue. Much like the very expensive PGA/Private golf clubs I so rarely get to experience .Empty golf course today ( For obvious reasons ). Which allowed me to get to the turn in a hour and 5 min. Took my time to enjoy my surroundings through the back. Could of easily finished 18 in well under 2 and a half hours do to nobody braving the fridged temperature. The course is in winter condition meaning Dormant fairway grass dead areas here and there. Teeboxes and greens all in pretty good shape. "The Frog" is maintained better than most but, you can tell the track is a public course do to the common hackers and haters that won't fill divits, repair pitch marks, or SIMPLY rake a bunker. I'm physically disabled and I can still fix grass and dirt. I mean come on!!!! REALLY???? 90 degree rule givin to me by staff. Which was much appreciated. Could of easily been cart path only do to soft areas throughout the course. Mad props to designer and grounds crews for using surroundings and natural run off to keep course as dry as it is currently. I was most impressed with the attention to detail in design to challenge even the most seasoned low handicap/scratch golfer.Every club in your bag can be used. And if I missed my target much like a links course I was in a well placed hazzard. "The Frog" is also a great place for the higher handicapers do to pretty generous landing area's off the tee, fairly short but testy par 3's, and large but undulating greens on majority of course. Beginning golfers will struggle do to this is definitely not a "grip n rip" and aim for the flag golf course. My only complaint besides hacker's and haters, is The golf carts have gps technology but mine wasn't functioning. Even though not needed because by FAR the best yardage marked course I've ever seen. Yardage is marked everywere. Tee box's, fairways, cart paths and sprinkler heads. This place is fantastic!!!!!!
Staff courtesy
We had a 10:00 tee time on 10-16-18 as usual, and found the course in excellent condition, but our outing was ruined by the behavior of the person at the desk in the clubhouse, he was a different person than had greeted us in the past at this time , was very unfriendly, rude in his responses to any remarks we made to him, and tried to charge us more than the price we as senior citizens usually pay, acting as if we were taking advantage of him by paying the senior price!
We play at the frog frequently, but if we are treated in this manner in the future we will find another course, that has a more welcoming atmosphere, especially to seniors!
Best Day at The Frog
Where should I start, from the nice driving range, the putting green right next Tee 1. The fairways were perfect in my opinion the ball sat up nicely. Although I was not in the bunkers they were kind of hard sand. The greens read and rolled so nice I had 1 birdie and 4 pars on my round. One of the best scores at the The Frog. Tom Fazio designed a gem golf course in the suburbs of Atlanta.
Greens under maintenance
The greens were covered in sand, literally. This is a great course, but do not play until the greens are better.
Use to be better. Needs sand and green improvements
Been a couple of years since I’ve played there. Got there early to watch the Open Championship. Restaurant/bar wasn’t that busy but had only two people working the whole place. Sat in restaurant for A few minutes then sat in bar. After about 10 mine, finally got my drink. Wasn’t the workers fault, just horribly understaffed. Food was decent, but pricey.
The course has lots of sand traps. Most had either very little sand, we’re washed out at the lips or looked more like waste areas (especially holes 14 and 15). Was just horrible. Greens were way too soft and slow. Only thing I can guess is that they are afraid to cut them short to prevent them from burning out. Fairways and tee boxes were in good shape and most underbrush under trees were clear so you could find balls is they made their way into the pines. Cart paths had seen better days. They do have GPS in the carts, which was nice. Hopefully the new management company will make improvements to it. You could tell it was just a course that was once nice but nobody wants to put money into.
Great Day
The Frog was in great shape and really enjoyed the course. Wet day but the course drained well. The greens were a bit moist as I was repairing significant ball marks all day. Greens also ran a bit slow but overall gorgeous. Played at 8:30am on a Fri and
extremely fast pace of play which made for a great overall day. Lastly, very peaceful, found myself take
In a few moments each hole to take in the natural beauty of the course. Thanks to the Frog for a great round.
As challenging as you want it to be...
It's hard to find faults in a Fazio-designed course. The only negative may be how far outside the city the course is located, but it's well worth the drive as the conditioning and staff are great, the range is adequate for warming up, and the pace of play is excellent. Choose the right set of tees and this will be a very enjoyable round. I am not one to play the same course over and over, but I'd play here weekly if it wasn't an hour drive from my house.
Great Course
I’ve played this course on multiple occasions. It’s a beautiful course that’s challenging and fun.
Consistently very good
Course is in excellent shape. Fabio did a great job for all skill levels....trouble if you stray too far, rewards if you can pound the driver and hit some tight wedges. Greens are very receptive - but too slow IMHO....had a lot of trouble getting the ball to the cup and the breaks virtually disappeared with the slow speed. Clubhouse is more than adequate - good place for a drink afterward.
Great course, fairways dormant
Great course. The layout is awesome. The greens were running true and looked like they were punched but didn't effect roll of the ball. The fairways were still coming back from dormant season so there were a number of tight lies - especially near the greens. I wish I could play it in a month or so. The day was still great - I wouldn't hesitate to play again soon.
Great shape
First time playing the course since it reopened from the 2 weeks of closing. Greens were excellent and the sand traps cut for definition and plenty of sand. Great shape as always.
