Nice layout, terrible conditions
I've never played what should be a nice course that is so poorly maintained. The greens were furry, lumpy, bumpy and had yesterday's trimmings still on the surface. The grass on the tee boxes was probably 2" tall. The fairways were nice, mostly. The bunkers were hard pan clay. The layout was fun but I can't imagine why anyone would pay to be a member at this club. Kind of sad because it has great potential. The only food at the 19th hole were hotdogs, seriously. And this is a semi private club! Tough to imagine.
I hate bashing on anybody or any golf course but this place just looked like nobody cared. Or it's heavily underfunded or under staffed.
Rough conditions
I typically never leave reviews, but in this case, I felt like I needed to. This course could be really nice if it were better maintained.
- the fairway grass was so high that we often couldn’t find our ball, even if we knew that it was in the fairway. The back 9 was in a little better condition than the front.
- the greens were really tough. They looked great from a distance, but we noticed that there were several deficiencies that made it hard to put with accuracy.
What Happened?!
played this course about two years ago and it was in perfect condition. Today the greens were bumpy, inconsistent, almost not puttable. Also most of the fairways were overgrown. I was in the middle of the fairway but had difficulty finding my ball.
The course layout is great but maintenance is lacking almost nonexistent.
What has happened to this course…not good either?
I have played here several times. Even broke 80 for the first time here at Chapel Hill. I am not sure what happened it they have let this course go.
The range was closed because the ball dispenser was broken. No signs.
The fairways were not cut. They are high like the first cut. The rough was US Open ready, but mainly because not cut.
The greens had more bumps and were sooooo slow and over grown.
The guy in the pro shop was horrible. Rude and jokes were not appropriate.
It feels like they let the grounds keepers go! This is horrible
Can’t even mow the grass
Avoid this mess of a golf course.
Rock bottom?
Course in horrible shape. Rough not mowed, fairways not mowed, greens not mowed, bunkers not groomed. Waste
Course in bad shape
To start the grass on the driving range was not cut it was like hitting from high ruff. The fairways were not cut very shaggy , the ruff was so tall you couldn’t hit the ball out of it with any kinda of club that would travel 185 yards at the most . The greens I was told were much better but they were very bumpy and slow . Course use to be very nice and a lot fun to play but the price they are charging I will not go back .
Never seen this course in such poor shape.
-Fairways are incredibly overgrown.
-Greens are slow, bumpy and look awful.
-Overpriced for the quality of the course. It’s been over a year since my last time playing and it’s seemed to have significantly changed for the worse.
Horrible maintenance
Worst greens I have ever played on. Course is in terrible condition.
Kinda Disappointing
Overall I was disappointed with the condition of the course. I played it in May and it was in great shape. This time, the greens were un-mowed and bumpy. The rough was punishingly long. The bunker had not been groomed and were washed out, in some cases there was standing water in the bunkers. Overall, it was not a good value
Terrible just awful
What a ruination, abomination and total (blank) show this course has become under this owner. Awful. Greens are practically ruined by winter freeze. Cups change 1x week look like gopher holes. Dead spots. Rough so deep you can lose a small child and when they are mowed large clumps of grass left behind. Multiple large irrigation leaks, bunkers untouched for days and days.
This course is worth $40 for 18 not &100
Horrible conditions. Fairway has 1inch long grass, greens were inconsistent and felt like putting on the moon. No smooth surface and extremely slow. No sand in bunkers. Shocked it was $100, definitely regret it. I won’t be back, but hoping to help save someone in the future their money.
Horrible paces of play! Over booked tee times!
I paid $85 each for my son and I to play a round at Chapel Hills yesterday. The tee times were severely over booked. It took almost 4 hours to play 11 holes. The entire round was over 6 and 1/2 hours. Completely unacceptable! The Marshall did what he could but there were simply too many groups booked too close together in time. I would NOT recommend anyone play at Chapel Hills Golf Club. There are many better options at that price.
Great layout, not for the price.
Great course layout. Needs a lot of TLC. Members are not very tolerant of GolfNow players so be aware. Fairways hold a good amount of water. Course has so much potential. Not worth 100 though.
Greens ruined the round
Greens were very bumpy and slow. It was more accurate trying to put in a simulator. Fairways were in great shape, but tee boxes were horrible and rough hadn’t been mowed. Have played here a number of times and this was really disappointing.
Poor Course Maintenance
I expected more for $100 dollars per person for a round. The course was not well maintained and the greens were awful. The course needs a lot of work and is not worth the price. The round should not have cost more than $30 dollars per round. I’m hopeful they fix the course and maybe I will give it another chance. Highly disappointed.
Disappointing
I’ve played this course over several years. Now that they are under new ownership, I was concerned about how much investment will be put into this course. The greens were terribly disappointing. For Bermuda greens in the middle of the summer to be this bad is a reflection on the new ownership. These Green should be filled in and perfectly manicured by now. It was hard to make a pot with the ball, jumping all over the place.
Sand traps also were in terrible condition as if they had not been raked in quite a while. Lots of gravel also.
What happened????
I’ve played this course before a year ago and it was in great shape at that time. For this outing, I was hosting friends from other cities so I wanted a course I had some familiarity with and liked, thus the choice. Golf shop attendant was not so friendly. I loved the starter who was very friendly though he gave no course info to the 3 unfamiliar players. The course conditions were of the greatest concern - 1) there were at least 4 holes with real water issues (constantly running creating soft, undriveable, unplayable conditions in those spots 2) the greens were a mess! (Most folks blamed management’s decision to allow play through very cold parts of the winter) the best way I can describe it is there were craters all over which made them extremely inconsistent and unable to judge speed and/or breaks.
I really want to like this place but they seem to be having issues right now with maintenance and management. I would encourage people to steer clear and let them work this out before returning as there are better options for the price.
What happened to Chapel Hills?
I've been playing Chapel Hills since 1998. Yesterday was the worst condition I've seen in all of those years. The greens, which were fine in April, are bumpy, with patches of grass missing and basically impossible to putt upon. The fairways needed mowing. The rough was uneven and extremely deep. Did all the mowers break? Is there no water for the greens? Also, several bad spots in fairways due to either water pipes bursting or something. Especially on #1. Many holes under repair. Hopefully they can get this back to where it should be
