Great Value
i got a great deal to play here today from GolfNow. Although this is green maintenance season, the greens were in pretty good shape from being punched and sanded probably within the last couple of weeks. The rest of the course was in good condition and it looks like they are trying to make it a nicer club. I usually don’t play this course often because I feel it’s a little overpriced, but if I keep finding good deals it’s worth adding to my regular courses.
Rough impossible
Unmowed rough right off fairway led to 5 lost balls. When you lose the ball off the fairway, I expected to be penalized but not to the point where you’re going to lose the ball every time when you’re just a few yards off. You should be able to play back into the fairway. The rough was completely in a unacceptable condition
In addition, the tee boxes were not mowed consistently. Also, the greens were punched but heavily sanded much more than I’ve seen before. Basically lost about 5 strokes putting because of that
There was also no sand in the bunkers
Not worth $65 with cart. Maybe worth $45. Won’t be back
Good course even with bad conditions
We enjoyed playing San Ramon even with the course being very wet. It is a fun and challenging course that is not very difficult.
Wait for this one
The rains here have created a slushy course add in the wind and col / cold temps and you should stay home by the fire and enjoy some golf on TV instead.
Excellent course in fabulous weather
San Ramon is a very nice course in good condition.
The price we paid through golfnow was great.
There are some challenging holes and some easier holes.
Solid Course
Flat layout. Greens are not too fast, not too slow. Good luck on the those long par 3's. Several tee boxes are starting to look hacked up. Nice fluffy rough is not too punishing. Greens are soft this time of year.
Nice course and on discount great course to play
I will give a breakdown as I normally do.
Good location.
They have a driving range, but again old matts (and I'm really tired of my game being ruined by first hitting off forgiving mats and then have to actually play golf). No real distance information, old mats, $10 for a large bucket (one of the loudest ball machines I've ever witnessed) But they have a range so you can warm up.
Carts are okay, they are older, no cooler, but they function just fine. (they are electric (so not that old :))
Course, we teed off and the first hole was nice, but come to hole 2 which is a par 3 and we had 2 4-somes in front of us.
They had a tournament of 40 people it seems and they put us on their heals (really bad!!) Obviously a two some is going to play quicker but with a 40 person tournament, we are not going to really play through all those groups. So we sat back and figured it would be a long day. 5 hours. We really think 18 should be 4 hours and we can make it 3.5 on occasions. So today was a bit poor scheduling from the pro shop. And note "we can lose balls with the best of them!! so it's not that we are scratch!"
Fairways and greens were all in great condition. A bit bumpy, but it's possible that they aerated not to long ago.
Bunkers were pretty packed down, they could use some Sand (it's not like it's been raining here), but otherwise they are in good positions and pretty nice (if you want to give a sand trap a prop! :))
The had a 2 way device to order food at the start of 9, but I guess it's broken (doesn't matter we were waiting anyways and ordered and relaxed and still got to the 10th where we had to wait)..
So food, better food than we have had in a while. Tri-tip sandwich for $8.00 with chips, that is better than most places that charge $8.00 for a hot dog and chips. Decent selection, so ya! Even has a full bar, so you can sit around after and grab a drink.
I wasn't sure at first with the range and the wait. But it really is a nice course, have to lay up sometimes and play smart other times (and most houses have some protection from you :)).
So for the golfmoose or other type deal, ya I think we would play there again, we did enjoy the course and thinks it's nicer than one of the local Livermore courses for less money.. :)
Also can there be a rule if the course is over 6000 yards, you don't let people walk?! There are some large distances between holes, that take walkers forever (yes I'm all for the exercise, but really these courses have to stop allowing folks to walk, unless they allow walkers first thing or last in a given day.
Interesting course with very slow play
San Ramon is a good course but the pace of play was very slow. The holes are challenging but not too difficult. The weather was great.
over watered
SRGC is a decent muni track. Long enough to get your attention, but easy enough to score. Water comes into play on end of both sides at 9 & 18. Otherwise, pretty sraight forward. Played as a twosome...picked up a twosome who were fun to play with.. The greens were in good condition. The fairways were over-watered and sloppy. No roll off the driving holes and hit far too many mud balls for mid-October without rain for 5 months. Played earlir in the year and the back 9 was roped off both times. I think it was becasue they were trying to sell it to developers. Glad to have both 9's back. Its a worthy track at the right price if they let it dry out a little bit.
Great Disappointment
The course was being aerated and we were not informed by the Golfnow system (no mention or alert when booking online). As such the back nine was closed. The front nine was in poor shape due to aeration. We were asked to play front nine twice or cancel. We only played front nine once due to poor course condition.
Also a separate incident, one course staff person was extremely rude to one of our golfing group. The golf club should not have such rude staff.
Bad course and staff is extremely rude .
We played on sept 24 th . Our T time was 12.24 pm. One of our player needed a handicapped flag as he is 80 y.o and they refused.
We only played 9 holes as the course was so bad and the back nine was closed. As we were leaving the course we went the wrong way in front of the golf shop . There were no signs and we were asked to pull back and as we were backing up a person from the golf shop comes out yelling at us and gesturing mental case. I got down to talk to him but he was so rude and started to say we don’t know where you guys come from move right away and leave. I repeatedly told him it was a mistake and there was no sign to say do not enter, in spite of that he kept calling us no brained people and don’t know where you all come from.
He was a white man and we are from India and we played there before. This happened about 3 to 3.30 pm.
This behavior of a person is very bad and racist and we decided never to go back to that course any more.
Very good course
We played San Ramon today and the weather was great. We played in 3 hours 15 minutes with almost no waiting. The greens are in good condition but very difficult
Nice zLayout
Greens were in excellent shape and the fairways were perfect.... last time I played here was six years ago when the greens were terrible then... glad I came back... enjoyed the round !!!
