Year end golf treat
I played Wente the day before in 50 mph winds, so San Ramon on this cool day was like a Caribbean dream.
The course was in good shape and the greens were true. Unsure if the waffle pattern is a new aeration technique, but it did not affect the roll of the ball.
The only frustration was our cart began to die on hole # 7. We made it to the turn and exchanged it for another. That cart began to die on #15.
Wet, wet and wet!
If it has rained for a week with no sun, please avoid this course! It was wet, soggy, muddy, had puddles, standing water.... Just unplayable. They should have closed the course for a few days. I have played the course before in summer, and it can be nice.
Nice round
course was in great condition , but play was slow. Greens were best shape in months.
A decent public golf courese
This is a decent public golf course with some interesting layout. The course sit on a flat area, very walkable, still got some challenge with trees, water and OBs. Back 9 is more interesting. Hole #9 and #18 are probably signature holes for this course, both grees are well guarded by water, especially with an island green on #9.
Nice Course
Played here once before and its a nice friendly course. Have played most courses in the bay area and its a decent course . Not super hard and very fair . Greens in very good condition but fairways could use some TLC. Worth the money and it would be a good course for a beginner or intermediate player . You still have to have a good short game to score but not as hard as say StoneTree in Novato , or Hidden Valley. Would come back and it is well worth playing.
Value for money
Short course. Not very long or tough. Good for high handicappers and walkers. Pace if play could be very slow. We played as a 5 some and no marshals around.
A Great day at San Ramon
Nobody behind us--the twosome we were paired up with were of low skill level, but they picked up (ran out of balls!) Really was a nice day for me and the wife.
Well done Mr. Greens Keeper
I have been playing this course for 20 years. And I hope that those who have been disappointed in the past decades don't find this again. For a public course who which get 61,000 rounds a year, the course was in great shape. Yes, I said great....the greens were fantastic. I actually had a moment to speak with the greens keeper, who is new. (only been there two years) As per his comments as why the change....."he cares". As for playability and difficulty. I am an avg golfer that enjoys the day as much as the course. My scratch friends tell me it is an avg course now in great shape. One weekends, it like every other course is ridiculously slow, so play it during the week.
Decent conditioned course with nice greens
Course is in good shape considering how dry it has been in the area. Looks like they are letting the edges of the course go brown and saving the water for the middle of the course. Greens were very nice. Did not have to wait much on any holes and had an enjoyable round.
Not much elevation change but good use of area
Holes are laid out well and requires fairly straight shots on some of the holes. The 9th green is an island green and requires a shot that lands and doesn't roll very much or else your ball will end up in the water.
The rest of the course is fun to play and works well for a social outing.
Fairly easy round enjoyed the course
6:33 tee time and the weather was absolutely perfect. Pace of play was 4 hrs.. My wife and I walked the course and enjoyed every step of the way. The Marshalls were cheery and helpful when needed. It's been awhile since I have played at San Ramon but I was pleased the greens were in very good shape and course over all played very well. I will return soon.
Great Greens Nice Course
Great weather made golf at San Ramon that much better. The fairways were average the greens were top notch for a muni course. Pace of play was fine. Holes are surrounded by houses. You have to cross many streets between holes. The rough was enough to hurt a little but not so much that you look for your ball forever. Distance was good. But the greens were fantastic. Don't plan on lunch, that have a full bar but the food is very very limited. Overall good value ...
super slow play
tee off 10 minutes past my tee time waited every hole groups were stacking up in front of us and behind us worst pace of play ever in the 20 years i have played golf
Don't Play on Sunday
We paid for 18 holes - only played 10!! And we skipped one hole to get in front of some Very Slow Players. There definitey should be a Starter to make players aware of some Very Basic Rules! For the same reason there should be a roving Marshall - we only saw him when we teed off on the first hole and we played for 2 3/4 hours - then left!! Also there were non-players riding bikes on the course and also a group of walkers with dog in mid-afternoon on Sunday -- it was Very Dangerous!! Signs and penalties should be posted for Their Safety and Yours - if they should get hit by an errant ball.
Terribly Slow!!!!
You can't expect 4.5 hour rounds on the weekend, but yesterday's round was terrible! San Ramon G.C. allows 5 somes, and does not have Marshalls to monitor play. We muddled through the front nine, and we thought play would speed up after the group in front of us dropped out after 9. We caught up to the group in front of us after the 10th hole, and found out that it was a five some; playing as if it was the final round of the Masters. There was no group that we could see in front of them, and they did not have the common courtesy to let us play throug. After 12 holes I couldn't handle it any more, so we called it a day. I complained to the Pro Shop, and they appologized. They also confirmed that 5 somes are allowed, and no marshall were on duty.
Nice course and great deal
Played this afternoon taking advantage of the great twilight deal of $16.00. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the restaurant staff were friendly and helpful as well. The staff were very flexible at getting me out before a foursome, but the afternoon was busy. was paired with another single and we went out at 2:30 PM. The front 9 played very slowly, 2 hours and 45 minutes, we waited at each hole for 2 - 5 minutes before hitting and sometimes waiting in the fairways too, the back 9 was a different story with due to the cold wind that was blowing all afternoon. Was able to walk over and tee up immediately, with no waiting at any hole. POP was 4:40 minutes, with the back 9 taking 1 hour 45 minutes.
Conditions:
Tee boxes: were mainly level with just a few that took a moment or two to find a level spot to tee from, but the grass was lush with only a few having divot damage that I poured the sand / seed mix into.
Fairways and rough: the fairways at times had some divot damage, but were mainly in great shape, the rough had some areas with bare spots, but mainly pretty thick, and challenging to hit out of, which was frequent being the course is very tight.
Greens and sand-traps: The greens except for new ball marks, from a couple groups playing before, that were not repaired amazed me, repaired minimum of three to four each hole sometimes more. But they were rolling very smooth and true and Fast, took about three holes to adjust. The sand-traps, was never in one, all looked to be in good shape, the sand was fairly soft from what I could tell watching my playing partners hit out of 3 traps.
Recommend this course, enjoyable but be ready for the tight and windy conditions.
Really Nice
Glad we played the blue which made it more challenging and fun. The greens was not bad and easy to read. The fairways and rough are well in control. This place is overall fun to play if you do not try too had to push for distance. The second shots are more important than the the first from the tee box.
