Candler National lives up to the hype

There’s a little magic in Candler Park. Escape the urban guerrilla war for a beautiful walk among the trees. There are challenging shots and a world of interesting people from Atlanta to meet and share you little adventure. For 11 bucks, You play golf the way it was meant to be played and you’ll join the secret society of those who know about one of the most special places on God’s Green earth.

They really had the tees way up today....good for me but you old timers must just be shaking your head. Tees up, no tree on 5 or 8.... luxury. When I was a young man we played double the distance, the greens were as long as the rough, a tree monster ate your balks on 5, six was surrounded by a moat with crocodiles, and a family of hyenas lived in the woods off 7 dining daily off those unlucky enough to go left. The kids today have it easy.

Great historic muni in the city.

Great course. Walking only and they have limited push carts. The clubhouse was still closed to Covid. Would like to have seen that given the historic course. 9 holes well maintained for a muni. Blend of par theees and fours. Holes 7 and 9 and steep uphill shots. Hole 8 sits between them and is a downhill shot. With a good roll you could make the green on that par 4.

It’s Perfect

It’s the middle of a busy week. But you just need a little golf. Not 18. 9. 90 minutes max. And you need it to be relaxing. Easy. Fun. You’re open to getting paired with someone you’ve never met but who will have the same chill vibe that you do. You don’t care if the greens run true or if the tee boxes are level because that’s for people who waste their money on country club dues. You don’t need a range because practice is overrated. At Candler, the grass is green, the holes are short, the greens are tiny, and the layout is old school. The people are great. It’s everything muni golf should be. It’s perfect.

Good course for the price

For the price, absolutely worth playing a quick 9. Tee boxes and greens could be much better but for the price it’s still worth it

Convenient, fun, laid back, starter course

I cannot say enough good things about this course. This is the perfect course for the starter who wants to learn in a no-pressure environment or the seasoned pro who wants to work on their short game without having to fight for a tee time on a big course. You can expect the course conditions for $15 to be ok, but what this course is great for is the ability to go somewhere, in town, and play golf. There are even a few holes where you get to let the big dog eat in the middle of the city. I just love being able to go practice somewhere close for so cheap. If you are looking for big, game serious golf this is not for you. If you are looking to walk 9, play with no pressure, and work on your game, this is the course for you. Have fun!

Walk in the Park

9 hole Parkland Course. Forgiving tee shots are countered by small greens that require precise shots to hold the putting surface. For the intermediate-advanced golfer, great opportunity to take a handful of clubs and go for a walk in the park.

Candler is fun for all skill levels if appreciated for what it is & conditions aren’t your #1 priority.

All in all, I’d recommend trying it out when you have a couple hours to spare.

Better course conditions than last week

The course is greening up. There's still a lot more to do with course repair but they are working on it!

Happy to play a round nearby

It was a fun, short morning outing with the family. It is sad to see the continued general neglect of course maintenance. It could be a City gem right in the middle of Candler Park. Would love to see the City/neighborhood bring this course back to life. Atlanta, we can do better!

Seriously?

$52 to play the Candler Park golf course? I might pay $10. This course has a couple decent holes, specifically #2, #7 and #8. The greens are never cut properly, so putting at Candler Park is absurd. Your ball may roll straight. but probably not. If you just want to knock the ball around for an hour or so, okay. But $52 is way too to charge for doing that.
