Narrow Greens, heavily wooded yet a fun course for the $$
I would recommend this course to anyone wanting to catch a round of golf before they hit Hartfield Jackson Int.
Fun course but definitely a challenge to stay in the narrow fairways.
Don't get wide or you'll be struggling to find balls in the rough but don't let that discourage you from trying this course out!
Cheers!
well layed out
The course has been had a lot of rain in the last few months. Since it is located in a flood plain, a lot of standing water. HOWEVER:I have not played there since spring. All of the greens have quack grass every 10 inches, and no attention to has been to sinking and broke up cart paths. Foot bridges are in none useable condition, and so are the bunkers. There are dead trees leaning dangerously over the entrance to the course. Not good. Tennis seems to have been taken over this location with little attention to what used to be a very nice golf experience. I have played no less than 30 rounds. Could have taken pics to show but did not know of this survey. Staff has changed and seems no older staff is left. Even the kitchen, snack bar was closed. On a Saturday? Wasted my money and time. Great warm-up course
The course is good; better than what I remember. New clubhouse adds more value to course. Some of the fairways need assistance, hole 3 and hole 7.
Bad greens
Greens not treated, ants trails on the green. Sand bunkers full of water, need a better drain system
Fun Course to play
I actually like Sugar Creek! Sure its got some course conditions to overcome, but it is still very playable, and fun. Sugar Creek is under new management and are working hard to turn things around. I would recommend this course under certain conditions, but for 2014, Not a must play. The potential of this golf course is incredible! I will play again...
hmmmmmm
Sugar Creek is taking great steps towards improvement. Fairways were cut......nice. The greens still needs some work (nothing major), just weeds growing within the green surface. The course has a challenging layout that requires accuracy. Overall good value for the price. The staff is always friendly and a great overall.
The course is very tight
Overall, the course is not bad. However the greens could use some work. It will definitely test your ability to drive the ball accurately.
This Course Needs Attention
Beautiful day but, the Sugar Creek Course was disappointing. Fairways were overgrown, and ALL the greens contained some kind of weed (Knutgrass ?) which made putting very difficult. The new Clubhouse was the best improvement made in many years.
Don't waste your time
My honest opinion. People should stay away from this course until the county decides to make the same financial commitment they have to Mystery Valley. The course has fallen into a state of disrepair. Crab grass and weeds in the fairway and on the greens. Water and a lack of sand in the bunkers. most of them are unplayable. Sad state of affairs.
Sugar Creek Course needs lot of work.
As you drive in you see the large new clubhouse, lots of tennis courts and it looks like a top facility. Don't be fooled! The course needs some serious attention. Branches over hang many holes and trees have not been pruned ever. The rough is poor and overgrowth under trees is taking over. The bent greens has crabgrass and other growth in them. The bunkers are so bad most needs to be removed with most have zero sand in them. I saw around 12 golfers on the course from 1 - 5:00. I know the management company has changed, but it is time to change again! Don't play here until serious attention to the course is given. The clubhouse is great, but what about Sugar Creek Golf Course?
Great course - great price
I was able to play mid day for a great price on two or three occasions through the golf now app. Easy to complete the transaction, carts ready to go, and a wonderful play on all occasions. Friendly staff.... Love the new clubhouse, too!
getting better
Since I last played Sugar Creek about 3 months ago, the course has improved a good bit. Greens are better and just a little patchy with some crabgrass, but mostly they were decent. Fairways are much better, with more good lies in the fairway. Tee boxes are not so good, and the bunker need the most work -- real sand and some grooming would make a big difference. Overall, I was impressed with the progress and I expect the course to get even better over the summer.
Not a good experience
I usually play this course with friends in the mornings. Afternoon golf shop attendant was un friendly and it rained right after starting and I was on 3rd hole so I asked for a rain check he gave me one for 15 holes. Very disappointed!
Great Value for the money
While this is not one of the better courses you'll play in Atlanta, for the price I paid. $13 (hot deal), I didn't have much to complain about. The course was in average condition and the greens had recently been aerated (golf now did list this) so I knew what I was getting into. The clubhouse was nice, however they don't have any food available (snacks only) so this was a disappointment. The course is laid out nice so it was fun to play. Would recommend for a casual time.
Darn good course for the money
Sugar Creek is a darn good course for the money. The staff provided great customer service. The club house facilities were clean. The course was fun because it is was challenging but not too difficult or frustrating for an amateur golfer. I've played Sugar Creek about 10 years ago and it has improved ten fold. The greens were not at their best because they had just been recently aerated but you can't avoid mandatory maintenance. There were a few holes with some drainage issues as well. The restaurant was closed but we were able to get snacks at the turn. Keep up the good work Sugar Creek!
Sugar Creek Golf Course
The front 9 was frustrating because the grass in the fairways needed to be cut. We spent a lot of our time looking for our balls in the fairway. The back 9 was better. The greens were slow because they were recently aerated. The staff is very friendly.
Great course, but clubhouse needs work
We've been playing at Sugar Creek for several years, mainly because the cost is very low compared to other local courses. Over the years we have seen the course conditions improve steadily and the staff is always super friendly, welcoming and helpful.
The clubhouse and pro shop could use some attention, though. We had to purchase a ladies' glove last time, and there was only one choice, and it wasn't the right size (but we were stuck, so had to buy it). There is no food available except chips, although it appears there is/was a full service lunch counter built in - would love to be able to relax mid-round instead of rushing through in order to eat afterwards.
For the money, it's a great value and a fun and challenging course. We'll be back :)
Good place to play
Great value for the money! Would like to see the kitchen open soon, but overall the course is a great place to play!
you pay for what you get
I grew up playing on this course so i have seen it at its best and worst now it hasnt changed much weeded fairway, hard dirt bunkers and bumpy green make for a not so satisfying experience but the layout is as tough as nails with tee shots needing to be on point it makes for a great teaaching course . now a new company has taken over and changes are already being seen so hopefully they will turn this place around
