It was my first time playing this course and I definitely will return. The course seem to play its true distance. The greens was in pretty good shape.

Overall a good experience. I expected the course conditions would be better since this is the home of Augusta State University. The back nine was in much better shape than the front nine.

Visiting friends

I have a friend with business in Augusta and flies in 4 or 5 times a year. We always play a round or two and have hit it at Forest Hills 10 - 15 times in the past 5 years. Yesterday was our first round this year and it surprised us. At best average and not what we expect at Forest Hills. Played Applewood and Fort Gordon and both were in much nicer condition for the end of May.

Update

Conditions pretty dry and greens fast. Tee boxes a little beat up and bunkers were hard, not really sand but combination or dirt and sand. Well struck shots will hold greens but chipping is challenging.

Firm

The greens were very firm and dry. No bite. The traps were too thin with sand making them like hardpan 1/4 inch under the ball. Unfortunately I was in 3 of them. Overall I enjoy playing this course, love the layout.

This is an excellent golf course.

I've played this course on a regular basis for more than 25 years. Not once have I seen the course in bad condition. The greens are always fast, and in great shape. The day I played, they were replacing all of the ball-washers. So, there weren't washers available that day. It's a great course and the staff is very friendly. Oh, did mention that Bobby Jones played and won at Forest Hills Golf Course.

Loved the greens

Nice course! We'll definitely be back. Play got a little slow on the back nine, but we still ended up in four hours. Great to have greens at a decent speed!

The other AGS National

Enjoyable afternoon with great weather. I've played this course multiple times and enjoy the layout. Conditions coming in as the weather warms up. Tees good. Fairways a little thin but no trouble hitting from them. Greenside chipping areas OK, but did roll the ball a couple of times due to bare lies. Greens very fast and rolled true. Greens are on the large side with many different pin positions and all have atleast two levels. Overall a great value for Hotdeal time. No brainer, play it if you get the chance.

Deceptively long and challenging

Had a great time playing this course for the first time. Greens were true and slick but still responsive. The greens were a treat to try to read. (I enjoy a good putting challenge.) Course is designed in a way that would appear to challenge 0-30 handicappers. I never had a situation that I got into that I didn't feel I had a way out of or that wasn't because of my own large mistake. Beautiful scenery too especially for being in the middle of what appeared to be a populous area.

The only reason I marked down the course conditions was because of a recent ice storm creating several piles of pine branches that they were in the process of mulching already. I will likely upgrade that score after the weather starts to warm and the clean up all the brush.

Staff was helpful and very pleasant .

This is an amazing deal for the price you pay.

I did not stop at the grill so I did not rate them in that category.

Overall this course is amazing and you are missing out if you visit Augusta, GA and do not play this course at least one or two ... dozen times.

Great Front 9, Sleepy Closing Holes

Forest Hills has a storied history starting with the start of Bobby Jones 1930 Grand Slam. However more recently as being the home of Augusta State's NCAA Championship Golf team.

The front half of this course is fantastic with great scenery, elevation changes and quick greens. However the closing holes are almost forgettable. The hilly condition, as the name states, keeps this course fun.

Overall, the course has great features.

Slow play on back nine. Noticed a group larger then a foursome a few holes in front. A marshal on the course could have helped with pace of play on the back nine. Fairway to green in great condition, bunkers also consistent.
