Where's the beef
Woodmont has consistently been an excellent course over the years but they have succumbed to some diseased greens over the last year and of course winter weather. In many cases, what should be dormant grass was no grass at all and many greens were not in good shape. The cost did not justify the conditions. At present, the course is in sub-par condition (excuse the pun...). I will surely be back once the greens are improved and the season has changed.
Current conditions not great
One of my favorite courses to play. Greens were in great shape, but the fairways on several holes were very thin and washed out. I assume recovering from issues during the fall and early winter.
It's a great layout and a fun course to play. Hopefully they'll get the fairways back on track this spring.
Great course in good shape. Very busy. Slow pace of play. Course worth tolerating slow pace.
Loved Woodmont
There is nothing better than Friday afternoon golf! And playing Friday afternoon golf at Woodmont was like having a cherry and whip cream on top of my desert. The pace a play was perfect and the greens rolled fast but true. I love bent grass greens and Woodmont has the best in North Atlanta. The dormant Bermuda was in good shape and the greening was beginning to take effect. The staff at Woodmont was friendly and very professional and the food at the grill was delicious. I would recommend Woodmont to all golfers as the varying tee boxes and greens offer a nice challenge to all levels of golfers.
No yardage markets!
U never know how far u are on course, markers are on drainage tops but hard to find!! The course was brown as can be, plus all the do is roll the greens and maybe cut once every few weeks! Will Not be back, especially for 60 bucks a person!!
Play it one last time
I decided to play Woodmont one more time before it goes private. There going private pretty soon when they meet 450 members. The course is clubhouse is buetifuel and nice tennis with good facility's but could be a little better.
The pace of play was herendous there must have been 4 5somes ahead of us. Other then that the greens rolled nice and I carded 4 birdies but there was some dormite grass. The are lots of good holes on the course.
Overall the course is in great condition and play it one last time before they go private.
Good, solid course always in good shape for typical fee
Have played Woodmont 4x in the last 6 months. Consistently good-to-excellent experience. Good range and practice green, good variety of holes (including reachable par 5s (#1, #10), short but 'you better attention' par 3s (#6 and #11, I'm looking at you), and challenging par 4s (#3, #8, #14). Reminds me of a public course version of Bay Hill - not tricked up, just a good, honest course where you'll score if you are hitting it well and pay for it if you're not.
Clubhouse has good food for typical higher-end course prices, and the pro shop is stocked with anything you'll need (I've picked up 4-5 nice logo shirts there on sale for $30 - $40). Would play it more if I lived closer. I like Echelon better, but drive 35 mins to play Woodmont despite having 7-8 courses closer to home.
Two bits of feedback for those who commented on the grass recently. 1) it's February - the grass is dormant and is supposed to be brown, and 2) unless English is your 2nd language, could you please put a least a little effort into spelling and grammar? I always appreciate honest feedback and the effort to provide it, and I hate to be 'that guy' but man, the message gets lost in the grammar and typo noise sometimes.
Go Play While You Still Can
Go play Woodmont while you still can. They will be going private early 2017 once they reach 450 members. They are at approx 400 at the moment. This is the only Robert Trent Jones Jr course in Georgia. Great lay-out, fast greens, play the correct tees for your game. I choose the Jones (6,200) and it was just perfect for me. Stay left to center on most of your tee shots and your will be in great shape. Be careful not to fade or slice it right as this will give you trouble. The greens are fast and if you are above the flag -pin watch your speed as your putts will run out.
Nice Outting
Woodmont has a classic private golf club feel where the membership wants a nice club but is unwilling to pay for a really great club. The course was in the best shape that I have seen in the last two years, but is not sufficiently maintained to be classified as manicured. Only the tee boxes were below average. The staff managed play well and we had a reasonably good pace of play. Local knowledge is needed to play Woodmont well. Sorry to see that the course to going private soon.
Great course
We played yesterday (10/16) and had an excellent day. This is perhaps the 4th or 5th time I've played here and have to say I've always had a great experience. The staff is very friendly and the Marshall does a good job of keeping everyone on pace. I do not recall ever having to wait too long on the group ahead of us, which is really nice especially on a weekend. The layout is challenging, but not overly difficult, so really anyone can play here and have a good outing. Tee boxes, greens, fairways and even the bunkers (which I found myself in more than once) were in tremendous shape. If you haven't played here before I recommend giving it a shot as you will not be disappointed.
Woodmont is headed private
I have played this course a lot of times and really enjoy the course every time. I learned last time I was here this course is going private. The range is great here and the flowers planted that make the w are cool. They have the drive chip and putt here and the food is great and recommend getting the mulligan sandwich. 6 is a great par three a nine is a wonderfully designed par 5 the signature hole is 11 and I love 16. The tennis courts are a little too close to the course for me but it works with the pool. Overall I like this course a lot and recommend coming before they go private.
great course
Even though we played the front nine twice, due to course improvements on the back nine, it was a great round of golf. Always love this course - great lay out and upkeep - hate to see it go private, but do understand. Glad I got to play it one more time.
Beautiful layout!
This course has a very fair and beautiful layout, some holes that you can jump on, but others that can bite you if you're out of position. The greens were not in the greatest of shape (getting ready to fertilize and aerate in the next 2 weeks), but their "substandard" greens are better than many in their best condition. I can't wait to play this course when they're in top shape. Friendly staff, great practice area to get ready for the course. Will definitely do it again!
On the fence with this one
Not a bad course but overall for $70 including tax and range balls, there are probably better options available locally. The rough is extremely penal, perhaps overly so depending on personal preference.
My biggest frustration on this particular day was the pace of play. I mentioned to the ranger that we were on pace for a 5+ hour round, he could not have been less interested.
Excellent
First time back to Woodmont in over a year. I really enjoyed the course. Brought my attorney who was 2 under on the back nine.My sister and brother-in-law are visiting next month and, as always, want to play an excellent Atlanta golf course. Woodmont will be the course for their next visit Thanks.
Great layout.
Course was in good shape considering its August. Greens were a little rough but still rolled pretty true. StaFF was great especially the timeliness of the guy handing out ice cold towels!
Nice Greens and great customer service
I was met by Tony with a smile to load my clubs. Customer service was great everyone was friendly. Course was very challenging but fair. Played the Palmer tees. Greens were in great shape and everyone is repairing their ball marks
Truly a member for a day! Loved this course.
Although it seems remote when you are driving up to this course in Canton, once you arrive, I was immediately impressed by the well kept grounds and the large clubhouse. You can also see a number of holes as you drive in which always gets me excited to play! The practice areas are extensive but not overwhelming and the carts were my favorite part as they have some sort of fancy brown leather seats in all of them which is a nice feature that I've never seen before. The course is definitely fair and can be quite challenging on certain holes. I really enjoyed the layout, but it's definitely a course that your score would improve after a few rounds and some course knowledge. I would love to come back here again as it is definitely a country club atmosphere as there was multiple groups, old and young playing cards or having lunch in the recently updated clubhouse restaurant.
Great course!
This was my first time at Woodmont and I thoroughly enjoyed the course. The fairways were in great shape and the greens were excellent. I especially enjoyed the layout on the par 3s. All were reachable for a short hitter which makes the experience fun. Great course that I could play everyday. Kudos to the grounds staff and the clubhouse employees.
