Royal Lakes Golf & Country Club
About
Royal Lakes Golf & Country Club is situated in the heart of South Hall County. The course sprawls across 150 acres of rolling countryside with natural wetlands comprising 19 of those acres. The golf course has a traditional Scottish links design that also incorporates a few mountain holes. It's a layout that will always keep you guessing. It may not be the most formidable golf course in the area, but it shouldn't be underestimated either. The course strikes a good balance between being forgiving enough for high handicappers and challenging enough for more advanced players. The par 3s are tough and the diverse par 4s come in all shapes and sizes. Royal Lakes Golf & C.C. is a shot maker's layout that requires accuracy and thoughtful strategy. The most memorable hole on the golf course is the par-5 11th, which features an intimidating island green.

Hole 11 Green Photo submitted by baldeagle218 on 05/17/2019
Great course
Can’t say anything bad about this place. I always look forward to playing here.
Good course but...
It needs some TLC. The layout is among the best in the area, but it relies on dramatic bunkering around most greens. Unfortunately the sand is washed out in most bunkers and packed hard where it remains.
Additionally, the greens were extremely slow and the fairways thin, both probably because of all the recent rain. They’ll both be fine in a week or so, I would think.
It’s a tribute to the course that I still enjoyed the round despite the problems. It presents one demanding and thoughtful shot after another. I’ll be back.
Good value golf course
This is a semi-private course so not very difficult at all to get a tee time. Anything around the $50 makes for a good value round of golf - we paid $45 as part of a golf society event.
The course mostly comprises sub-division golf but the houses aren't overly close such that there are OB stakes everywhere. Fairways are reasonably wide but trouble does exist on most holes for overly wayward drives.
The only issue I had with the course was the state of the greens. As other reviewers have eluded to, they are extremely slow and really detract from the overall experience. The member I played with conceded that they had a lot of problems last Summer with several greens and are therefore over-seeding and leaving the grass longer this year to avoid a repeat. Probably makes sense but wow, these were the slowest greens I've played in many a year. To bad as this really is a nice track otherwise.
Excellent condition
Greens were a little slow due recent downpours. Layout is really interesting and fun to play. The island green looks intimidating, but plays well. Wonderful course. Will go back again!
Very, very nice experience
The people at Royal Lakes are amazing. You feel very, very welcomed. Great experience.
Shaggy greens
The course was in excellent shape. The only problem is that the greens are very shaggy and SLOW. Definitely hadn't been mowed in 2 or 3 days. Talking to a couple of members, they said the greens have been like that all year. Definitely distracted from enjoying the game.
Enjoyable
Staff was extremely nice, course was in great shape, will be back
Relaxing round
I really like the layout of the course, however the greens are rolling a bit slow, possibly due to an early April aeration. The layout is quite forgiving and also has some management shots that you need to be wary of. All in all, I have always enjoyed playing this course. The fairways are in good condition and are looking healthy
perfect day for golf
Course was surprisingly not crowded on a perfect spring day. Got in 27 with my golfing friend in under 4 1/2 hours. Greens could have been faster, but their speed allowed for a lower score. I really like this course.
1st Time.
If you are a bogey golfer or better don’t pass this one up. It will not disappoint. Fair yet challenging. Par 5 with an island green. Say what? Gotta cross water twice and avoid it on your left from tee to par this one.
Great Course
Pleasant staff and great overall experience. Course is beautiful, in great shape, and a fair test for all.
Nice course - too slow
Royal Lakes is a fun course with a very nice layout. Their greens were recently aerated, so the greens were rough however the problem was the pace of play. It took 5 1/2 hours to play and we waited five to ten minutes on every tee, often with two groups waiting to tee off. The Ranger should've moved things along. No excuse for this excessively slow pace of play.
Beautiful time to play
Azaleas are blooming all over the course. Fairways and bunkers in good shape. Greens just aerated and sanded. Just filling in. Back nine plays slightly harder. Good course I always enjoy the test.
Terrible experience
Wow...
My first experience for racism from cart parking staff.
Will never play ever again.
Good luck
Great Course
First time playing Royal Lakes, and really enjoyed it. Variety of challenging holes which allowed you to use most of the clubs in the bag. Wish I knew a little more about some of the holes with water, as blind shots bit me a little. Will definitely be back and certainly would recommend everyone give it a try.
