Royal Lakes Golf & Country Club
About
Royal Lakes Golf & Country Club is situated in the heart of South Hall County. The course sprawls across 150 acres of rolling countryside with natural wetlands comprising 19 of those acres. The golf course has a traditional Scottish links design that also incorporates a few mountain holes. It's a layout that will always keep you guessing. It may not be the most formidable golf course in the area, but it shouldn't be underestimated either. The course strikes a good balance between being forgiving enough for high handicappers and challenging enough for more advanced players. The par 3s are tough and the diverse par 4s come in all shapes and sizes. Royal Lakes Golf & C.C. is a shot maker's layout that requires accuracy and thoughtful strategy. The most memorable hole on the golf course is the par-5 11th, which features an intimidating island green.

Hole 11 Green Photo submitted by baldeagle218 on 05/17/2019
Royal Lakes
It’s a challenging course worth playing and returning only occasionally. However, there are several things they could do much better.
Pace of play. Tee times are too close which implies course is more interested in your money than your golfing experience. There was no marshal yet saw the beverage cart many times. Maybe combine the jobs?! I want often choose a course that doesn’t manage player experience well.
Needs more drinking water resources. Again, likely about the beverage cart and them.
Not a single ball washer on course nor on cart. Really?
There are several points on the course where next hole directional should be installed especially for the “new to course golfer”.
Main fairway areas, tee boxes and greens in nice shape. Secondary rough is way too tall. We saw no one mowing. Actually, only maintenance going on was limited watering of greens. Yet, several young men running around on carts without regard to golfer’s play doing what I don’t know. Joy-riding?? Maybe it’s an issue of labor resources. However, many areas of the course needs to be mowed and kept more manicured for the overall experience.
Sand bunkers are a joke. Very little has been or is being don’t to maintain them. Washed out and hard as concrete mainly. So, stay out of them as you don’t have a prayer hitting from them.
Cart paths are in bad shape. Meaning, surface is very uneven almost the entire course. So, go slow if your don’t want to throw yourself out of cart, wreck or shake yourself around the entire round.
Finally. No in-cart GPS! Really? With the type of course this is and how it could better be with above improvements, modernize with onboard gps.
I’ll be back at some point. Sparingly. However, do the things above if you aspire to be an awesome golfing experience. There are many other better courses in the area to choose without the issues stated above.
Royal Lakes
This was the second time that I have played the course since the reconfiguration of the course layout. The 2nd hole is beautiful but the landing area off the tee is too small and doesn't give the average golfer much of a choice but to lay up twice or risk hitting the ball into the water. The only other choice is to hit the ball up on to a steep hill and risking a side hill lye or hitting out of bounds. There are at least 3 par 4 holes that won't allow anything but irons off the tee unless perhaps you carry a 7-wood or a shorter hybrid. Greens were in great shape for the most part, and the course was manicured well. The amenities were top notch and the beverage cart personnel were always in circulation it seemed. There were a couple of groups on the front that held up play but once they allowed us to play through, we were able to maintain pace. We were a threesome and finished our round in just under 4 hours with a stop for some sandwiches at the turn. The course offered some challenging angles and has quite a few holes which require precise positioning off the tee. I would recommend this course to friends and will be back to play it again soon.
Bunkers and greens
Not a fan of bunkers with sand ( clay colored)that contain small stones. Greens were very fast and did not hold approach shots very well so aim for front of greens.
Great place to play anytime
A very challenging and very beautiful course to play… I think anybody would enjoy it, but if you’re below average… Bring lots of balls!
Close to Home
Enjoyed my round at Royal Lakes gold club. Staff was friendly. Fairway need more grass. I assume they must have gotten a late start in getting them in shape. Greens were good. Sand traps need some work. But when things improve I am sure it could one of my favorites. I’ll be back.
Good value
Havent played the course in 15+ years, good value for the fee, great pace on first 9 then backed up a bit
Very fun day
Course was very nice, not too long, lots of tee boxes to choose from, they must have gotten a late start on getting they fairways in shape, not much grass yet. Cart paths could use some work. As well as tee boxes. Greens were in pretty good condition, sandtraps just ok, need some good sand. Beautiful course with lots of lake and great scenery out on the course. I liked the course it was fun to play, I will go again. Give it a try.
They did a Great Job renovating the Clubhouse & Restaurant. Kudos to you.
The course has really come around after a Tough Winter. Greens were Great and water always an Issue. The Cart girls were Great. Nice & Fun young Ladies.
Keep up the Good Work and say HI to Nick for me.
Thanks.
Talk about a crappy course!
When I moved to Georgia 3 years ago this was in my top 3 courses in northeast Georgia with great course conditions and friendly staff but now this is the Worst course. Have played here in January and this week and man how fast this course and staff have fallen. To start, the staff is not friendly and seem very angry and there is a tense feeling when you walk into the pro shop. The. The course conditions are horrible, from tee box to green on every hole.
I will not be back to Royal Lakes
Best golf course in the area
I try to play once every week and Loyal Lake is always my favorite. The course is well maintained and staffs are very friendly. Plus every hole is very uniquely designed, no lack of water and hills, and sometimes challenging to play. After all it’s fun to play.
