Providence Club
About
Conveniently situated between Athens and Lawrenceville, the Providence Club has a scenic location stretching right along the Appalachee River that makes it feel much more like a getaway. The golf course has been considered one of northeast Georgia's best since opening in 1998. The layout takes advantage of the rolling terrain, incorporating elevated tees and uneven lies. The greens often feature slopes and undulations but they are fair and they roll true. They are also known for being excellently maintained. Mature trees frame many of the holes and there are several strategically placed bunkers lurking throughout. Water doesn't come into play too often but the elevation changes will provide plenty of challenges. The golf course is player friendly enough to accommodate a wide range of skill levels with a few tricky holes to keep the round interesting.

Providence
Great course, in excellent shape! Highly recommend.
Thursday July 5th 2018
Great day on this course, a little under 3 1/4 hours is great during the week. Greens are in good condition and coming in nicely considering all the rain. Fairways are true and bunkers actually have sand in them unlike other courses around Atlanta.
Go play this track you will not be disappointed
Providence in 3 Hours
Providence rarely disappoints. I was able to get off work a little early and decided to play 18 on a Tuesday. There were a few foursomes in front of me that let me play through. I was able to play 18 in just under 3 hours.
The course was in great condition. As usual the greens are fast, but consistent.
Not bad, not ideal, fun course to play
Providence is a nice track that I’ve played many times, but this is the 1st of this golf season.
If I could breakdown the conditions on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the best…I would do it as such.
Tees…5, every tee box was fully grassed in and nicely mowed.
Fairways…4, considering there had been a great deal of rain passed thru, they were in great shape
Bunkers…4, only entered one bunker, but all seemed to have an ample amount of sand, raked, etc.
Green complexes…3, nicely mowed fringe fronting most greens, many of them were kind of soft so run up shots were 50/50 at best. Carry the ball to the green became the theme of the day. The greens themselves were just okay…back 9 was better than the front for sure. Based on other Champions Bermuda courses or whatever that strain is we’ve been playing recently, I was expecting better and these have been better….playable, I wouldn’t stay away because it, but not ideal.
For those that haven’t played it…not long. Most bogey to mid 80 players will probably chose the blue tee box. Lots of elevation change and a fair amount of hazards create a healthy challenge, yet fun and a course you can score on.
We'll be back.
Well above expectations
Fairways are wide, forgiving and firm. Well trimmed and remarkably dry considering the amount of rain in the summer weather pattern this year. Their drainage is better than any other course I've played making contact with the ball possible without getting a face full of mud. Greens are well groomed and somewhat soft rolling at about a 9 or 10. The back 9 is a wonderful walking opportunity with short stoles from green to next tee; front 9 has some long walks between greens and next tee. I don't walk because of my knee, but I look forward to the day I can. The only negative I can mention is the driving/practice facilities are small and incomplete (no bunker or pitching practice facilities)
Good course for the money
Tee boxes and fairways are in great shape. Some of the greens are rough in spots. Most of the greens were in pretty good shape. Overall good course for the money.
greens were not in very good shape
course was in great shape except greens are in bad shape especially for the price
greens in bad shape
greens are not good for all the rain we have had.
#1 is horrible for a course this nice.
love this course but will not come back fo awhile due to greens.
Quality, albeit slow, Sunday Round
This was certainly not my first time playing at The Providence Club, however it was my first time playing there on a weekend morning which I most likely will not do again anytime soon. Upon pulling up to the first tee we realized there was no starter on duty and the tee times had already fallen at only 8:45AM. Once we finally got out on to the course things picked up for a while until about hole 5, then it was relatively slow for the rest of the round. One issue which probably caused the slow play was the course being cart path only, though most of the holes were fine for carts to travel on the grass (some wet areas could have been simply staked off). We also only saw a ranger once during the entire round; if they had a ranger continuously traveling the course, I think that would've alleviated some of the pace issues.
Now on to the course itself. The greens at Providence were ok, but left a bit to be desired. They rolled fast but tended to bounce a lot, and they looked very thin in some areas. The fairways and rough were in excellent shape with tall pine trees lining many of the fairways. Some of the bunkers had a bit of wash out, but with the rain in the earlier weeks, that is to be expected.
All in all, Providence is a very enjoyable course to play during the week when the course is not packed. With a little more attention to pace of play, it would be a great weekend stop for the causal golfer.
The Tale of the Lost Greens
All in good shape except for the greens which seem to have not survived the winter very well. They were normally difficult but are now extremely difficult.
Noticable Improvement
There is a noticeable improvement in this course. The personnel were exceptionally nice, the course was in great shape (especially considering recent weather) and several subtle improvements on the course. We played with a couple of out-of-town friends. They were impressed and plan to play here when they return. Price was exceptional through GolfNow offer!
Weekday play
Great place to play, the staff is always friendly and the course was in good condition except for the greens. Once we get some rain and the greens get better it will be hard to pass on this course
Sunday March 6th
I have played here frequently in the past and will eventually return but not until the greens and fringe around the greens are back. The fringe is essentially just dirt and the greens were so covered in sand. I understand punching and rolling is an annual event but this was unknown and should be advertised.
Pace of play 4 hours, F&B as always great, $$ for the round no issue there. In the end putting surfaces will make or break a golf course there are too many places around to play.
Maybe try Providence again in late June this feels like 4-6 weeks to get those areas back in playing shape.
