Country Club of Gwinnett

I used to play here a few times a year while i lived in the area, but its been probably 13 years or so since I played the course. It used to be one of the nicer tracks in the area. It would typically be well taken care of, nice amenities, and a good value for the money.

That is not even CLOSE to the case anymore. There are not a lot of great courses in the area, but I saw some of the other reviews that seemed decent, and that the price was still moderately high to play here, and figured maybe they still had it in shape. I was very wrong. This place is not even close to worth $50-65 for a Friday afternoon round. This is a $30 dollar round MAX, regardless of time.

The course was in terrible shape. Huge portions of the fairways are missing grass/rough ALL over the place, including right in the middle of the fairway. There was at least 10+ occasions our group moved the ball all around the place just looking for some grass to hit off of. The cart paths are atrocious. The range mats are so poor and torn up, our group all stopped hitting balls after only half way through the small bucket they make you pay for. On top of all that, our foursome went through THREE cart changes before we were past the 3rd hole. The first one we got as we were checking in and driving to the parking lot had a safety brake that didn't work... our 2nd cart started dying on hole 2 so we had to get it exchanged... and our 3rd cart died on hole 3, and again had to wait to get it exchanged. Due to this we didn't reach the 4th hole until about 40 minutes after our tee time, and a group went in front of us that was playing very slow. Then, the new carts started dying again by the 17th hole and we barely made it back.

This place isn't putting anything back into the course or the other aspects of play.

Greens were firm and very fast with a lot of run out. Course was in good condition as long as you stay in the fairways. Rough areas and around the edges of the cart path had a lot of wash out. Cart paths are cement, and quite bumpy where tree roots have pushed up sections of concrete creating a very bumpy ride. You have to really pay attention to avoid tearing up the suspension on the golf carts. Overall, it was a very enjoyable round and I will play the course again. Maintenance team has done a good job keeping the fairways, bunkers and greens in good condition.

Was a little windy to start but turn out great on the back. Back 9 is tighter than the front and greens were super fast especially down hill. Front desk gal was especially nice, letting my son play for free!

Perfect crystal clear 75 degree day. Course in good shape. The greens were in excellent condition! They were very fast, seem to be rolling 10 or more. Short but tough course. Always enjoy my round here.

Whoever thinks it’s a good idea for a group of 5 to play on a crowded golf course is beyond me.

Showed up Saturday to play a round and they overbooked the course. I had to cancel my round. No golf carts available. No range balls available.. They did tell some lady if she wanted to hit range balls, she would have to go pick them up herself. The bathrooms were absolutely disgusting. I will never be back.

First, with the exception of the par-3 holes and maybe 2-3 other holes, the layout is a complete joke. There were several par-4's where I could not hit my driver, and I was playing the blue tee boxes. I teed-off with a 7-iron on one hole, a 6-iron on another hole, and a 4-iron on two holes. One hole, I forget which number, has a rip-rap filled drainage ditch I guess running RIGHT IN THE LANDING AREA. I hit a good drive, it was heading just right of the ditch and would have been perfect, but the fairway is pitched toward the ditch right there and yep, my well-hit ball bounced left and into the ditch. STUPID design. And rolling fairways? HA! For one hole on the back, you have to tee-off to a severely up-sloped fairway, so severe that you cannot see if the group ahead of you has moved on or not! I could go on, but the layout is terrible. Second, the trash can at every tee box was overflowing and trash was all over the ground. Third, I go into the golf shop (which has virtually no merchandise, forget about buying a sleeve of balls) to get waters and crackers, but he had no crackers and everything in the cooler was frozen solid. And of course, the grill was closed and I could get nothing in there. GREAT! The guy at the golf shop counter grabbed me a couple of bottles of water from the grill, but did he offer to grab me some crackers as well? Of course not. Fourth, the greens were like concrete and the fastest I have ever played. Fifth, it took us nearly two and a half hours to play the back thanks to a 3-threesome that was holding everybody up. This was a total waste of my time and my money. I only played here because of the positive reviews. Needless to say, I was hugely disappointed.

Tee times was at 8 am....nobody showed up to the course until 730 am...they have a driving range but no balls, they have a full grill and bar but no food, not at 8 am not at 12 pm. Could even buy so much as a bag of chips

No range ( out of balls?) no snacks…at all. No food. No balls for sale. Clubhouse was completely empty. Had to wait 20 minutes for a cart. Cart went dead on 12th hole. Brought another one with no brakes. Couldn’t park it anywhere because the parking brake didn’t work. Fairways were in horrible shape. I’ll never go back!

Course is solid, decently maintained, and is a fun challenge, especially for the price.

The check in person was great, cart maintenance crew was nice, and the starter was great.

We played a weekend round starting at 10 am. The course plays well, doesn't have too much traffic, and is in solid condition, even for a September round. Some place could use some clearing, but nothing insane.

However, the amenities were in rough shape. The men's bathroom was in hilariously bad shape, with, well, "human dirt" mattered on both commode, sinks that howled when turned on and only one out of the multiple lights actually working.

The course bar/snack shop was completely closed, because "someone didn't show up" which is very odd, especially for a Sunday. We had to buy a snack at the check in desk.

The driving range could use a bit of cleanup, at least a wash of the mats would be killer, but nothing game-breaking.

Overall, this may have just been a "bad day" for course and amenity maintenance. Good course, friendly people, but maybe hire another person with a liquor license?

Will play again, as the course itself is awesome. I feel bad for the people that live off of the 8th fairway.
