Stone Mountain Golf Club sits at the base of one of the Southeast's most popular attractions, Stone Mountain. The club offers two 18-hole courses, Lakemont and Stonemont. The Stonemont Course is the club's original layout, designed by Robert Trent Jones. The gentle hills surrounding the mountain provide the golf course with rolling fairways and greens. The contours are subtle, but they can be deceiving. The classic but tricky layout requires careful strategy and course management in addition to accuracy. The course is routed around the mountain and its accompanying lake, weaving through dense forests of Georgia pine. The layout features narrow fairways, but one of the most challenging features are the numerous bunkers strategically placed throughout. Since opening in 1969, Stone Mountain's Stonemont Course has hosted numerous events, both local and national.

The good, the bad, and the ugly

The greens were all but unplayable. I’m told that weather has played a big part of that but I don’t know if that’s the entire case.. Also, what you’re not told is that it costs $20 to get into the park where the course is. I will definitely come back but not until the course has a chance to get back in shape.

Beautiful track and peaceful surroundings.

DO NOT PLAY, GREENS ARE BEYOND REPAIR

I've played the other stone mountain course a few times, and earlier this year it was in good shape. This course was in awful shape. 14 out of 18 greens were unplayable. They were dead mud patches. Putting was a joke, we couldn't keep an accurate score because of the greens. Normally, if a course is redoing their greens, they offer a discount, or at least give the golfers a heads up. Nope, they charged full price and no mention that their greens were the worst in Atlanta. We will never play here again, and will tell everyone we know to not play here.

Bad municipal course

Terrible course. I only paid $28 on a hot deal and almost feel like I didn’t get my moneys worth. Greens horrible. You can put through muddy bare spots slick new sodded areas and patchy greens with a lot of grain all in one putt. Some bunkers were washed out and hard Had to chip out. Fairways front nine hard packed. I can’t believe the normally charge a hundred bucks to play. I would have blown my top

Greens are Trash

Do not play this course. The greens are a joke, I wouldn’t call this real golf. 15 out of 18 greens were bare. Black patches of mud that have been there for weeks. There was no warning from the staff. We will never play here again and will tell everyone we know to stay away.

dissatisfaction

The fisrt green was so nice! After that every green was terrible. Worse than terrible! all bare spots different types of grass. The bare spots were cracked like dried clay. We felt we were falsely charged a price for the conditions of the green! Worse than playing on aerated greens! It was like being robbed of our golf outing.. They stole our money. We will never go back. Stn mtn owes us our money back. Deception! How can anybody pay that kind of money for a corse that considered themselves a resort. Criminal!

Don’t waste your money at Stone Mount

I’ve played this course for years, but have never seen it in worse condition and with such unacceptable maintenance, if any. Out of 18 greens, I think 2 were in good condition, slow and hairy, but at least green. The rest of the greens absolutely looked like black cracked tar in many places. So many of the green side bunkers had erosion cuts over 6 inches deep. Heaven only knows when they were last raked. Something bad is happening here, and somebody has made a decision to not spend another dime on the course, other than to mow. As the event host, I was deeply embarrassed to bring people to this course and will not do so again. Terrible shame, because it used to be a nice place to play.

Unplayable course and WORST GREENS EVER!!!!!!

I was impressed with the clubhouse, bar area, and super friendly and helpful staff. The fairways, layout, and tee boxers are in great shape. The bunkers are pretty nasty but due to the rain the last few days we didn't think too much of it. THE GREENS: The greens are in the worst condition that I have ever seen on any golf course in my life. The greens looked like cheap carpet that was chewed on by a rabid dog. It made the course completely unplayable and unenjoyable. I can't describe to you how bad these greens are and I wish I had taken a picture. If the round was $10 with free parking it would have made more sense.

Also, remember that you will have to pay for Stone Mountain parking ($20-$40),

Greens are terrible

Layout of course was great, staff was very courteous. Restaurant/bar had a good selection and great food. My main reason for rating is the condition of greens on the Stonemount course, front nine were fine but the back looked a nuclear fallout had occurred. Mostly dirt and sand on 7 out of 9 greens. Bunkers/sand traps also in bad shape for a course charging $75-85/round.

I did speak with a member who said they got hit hard with heat damage, completely understand. Adjust the rates then to something that reflects the course conditions, like a winter/fall rate perhaps.

Do not pay $100+ Green Fees For This Course

I've been playing at Stone Mountain for many years. It used to be a decent value to play there. But now they have raised their green fees into the complete ripoff range. Especially for Stonemont. Many of the greens on the back nine were in poor condition. The sand traps are usually in poor condition. Lakemont is in better condition but the speed of the greens is extremely slow and you need pull out a 5 iron for any 30+ foot putt. Three years ago they were charging less than half this price to play here. It's a ripoff now. Don't play golf here..

So much potential. Beautiful layout… tee and up to green in great shape. Then there’s the greens… probably the worst greens I’ve ever played. $20 courses have these beat. Booked the other course for tomorrow but I’d like to get my money back.

Great Except for the Greens

Most of the course is in great shape. Tee boxes and fairways naver better. However, the greens were in very bad shape. Looks like they need to be replaced.

WORSE THAN SOUTHLAND

I purchased this round for my bday with 3 buddies and after playing the Lakemont course, I was really looking forward to it. However, once we actually got there, everything changed. Worse greens I have literally ever played, and I have played Southland Country Club. There were no pretty views other than the parking lot. The entire front 9 is just back and forth holes, all the exact same hole just in to the wind, then with the wind. $80 for a round, and $20 to pay to park should literally be illegal for how AWFUL this golf course was.
