Smoke Rise Country Club

Course seemed like it hadn’t been maintained in awhile. Lots of limbs need to be cut and tons of over growing on this course makes it hard to enjoy. Bunkers were swamps . Only plus of the course were the greens were rolling good and true. Course management needs to start putting $ back into the course and upkeep

I am a former member who returned to play for the first time in 5+ years. This is a challenging and always interesting course. Unless you are a sub 10 index bring extra balls.

Course is in great shape! Layout takes the driver out of your hand. A lot of doglegs and blind tee shots.

Over 45 minutes behind schedule because not enough carts.

Green were in great shape. Fairways were better than average but the tee boxes were rough. Overall, I look forward to coming back

The back is in better condition than the front. Fairways are a little thin all the way around. Greens were a little shaggy and slower than average in the morning. It was good to have someone in the group who had played the course before. Certainly not a course where the driver is necessary, at least from the golds and I am not a long hitter.

Course is interesting to play and certainly is not one where you can just bash it off the tees and find your ball. Little more strategic than that. Just wish the course conditions matched the layout.

Despite the hardness of the greens. They are fast and hard as a brick. Need to be aerated.

With your money you can do a lot better in Atlanta. I jumped on a cheap round on golfnow which said that the course had recently been aerated. However, the greens were actually the part of the course in the best condition. They were fast, firm, and pretty true.

The problem was everything else.

First the layout: the course consists of numerous doglegs with lots of elevation change and narrow fairways with lots of slope on them. However, there is so much overhang from the trees all around that this becomes a round of target golf where you need to keep the driver in the bag for all but 1 or 2 holes. Even then, there were numerous times where the ball would just take a bad bounce in the fairway and you're all of a sudden on the other side in deep rough. Just not a lot of fun

Second condition: I've never seen fairways so full of weeds, cart paths so broken down, so many dirt patches both in the fairway and rough, and worst of all were the bunkers (if you can call them that). Most had significant standing water or haven't been raked in months. Further, they all had a ton of erosion; you were hitting in dirt/clay.

The round was quick which is the best I can say for the ourse. All and all, could just do a lot better for your money here in Atlanta

I played this course once or twice back in the 90's and remembered it being a very nice country club setting. Time has NOT been kind to say the least. Staff was indifferent, required to sign acceptance of liability for the cart (that was a first in 40 years of play), carts were not ready so had to wait for one to be hosed down and brought out wet, There was a large cigarette burn in the seat so I asked if it needed to be documented since I had to sign to be responsible for any cart damage... the lady just shrugged and said "read the liability statement".

Finally, Went to head to the first tee and the guy selling memberships at this semi private course was parked in the middle of the cart path blocking the way with his new prospective members showing them the property. He looks up and tells me "I'll be out of the way in a minute" and proceeds to finish telling them about the course. I told him he was definitely in the way as I slowly maneuvered around him barely able to squeak through. He told me I could just wait few minutes to which said.. "no, I'm good" and I continued to maneuver around his cart. He yelled something at me (I think it was "welcome to The Club" ) as I drove off... Finally get to the first tee after 40 minutes on site....William was the BRIGHT SPOT of the Day.... William is one of the guys at the cart shed and he escorts us to #1 and gives a great run down of the course. Great guy. However, It was down hill again after that.

The course condition was nothing short of terrible. As I said, time has NOT been kind. Tee boxes were a mess, markers were not in place on several tees, Fairways full of crabgrass, drainage issues had created serious erosion all around the cart paths and tee boxes, bald spots throughout , sand traps had no sand, were full of water. and looked more like lunar surfaces. The greens were not terrible but I have seen municipal courses much better maintained, Ultimately, we played until #13 and decided to call it a day. Simply stated, we will never go back.

Smoke Rise has apparently gone "Up in Smoke" Oh well, but hey.... "Welcome to The Club!!"

tee time was 1040 am. No golf carts. Teed off at 12. No marshall on the course moving people along. Superintendent of golf never came out to see 32 players sitting around waiting past their tee times to get a cart. Left the one starter outside on his own to listen to our grief. No sorry, no offer of bottled water or Gatorade. Last round i will waste at this course.

Course is not in good shape currently. It needs a lot of attention. There are a lot of blind shots on the course.
