Golfer Reviews
Disappointing is an understatement.
I won’t make this long, arrived to course range was closed due to no balls available. Looked around to see everyone standing around due to no carts being available. Teed off 45 minutes late due to waiting for a cart to become available for our 4some. Course needs serious love. But I won’t be able to give it another chance.
One of the worst golf experiences I’ve had.
This is such a shame because the course has potential. The greens were in pretty good shape all things considered. But course and course management itself made the experience extremely horrid. It’s a blind tee shot course, with no real yardage markers. No coolers on the course, no cart girl or staff, and real TURN. The course is tight and unforgiving. We booked a 11:05 am tee time and didn’t get off until AN HOUR later because we were waiting on carts to be returned. A golf course that books tee times with not enough carts, unreal. Also, range is only 200 yards, thick rough and irons only, with only about 10 bays. No range balls available because a worker was collecting balls, with one of the golf carts. The pace of play was unbelievably slow & in one of the worst parts of Stone Mountain/Georgia. Never again. Very brutal.
Southlands
Course is under new owners and they are doing a very good job of improving the course.. Everyone working their is very courteous and helpful. I will play it several more times.
sunday, 8/7
Greens are great, roll true and consistent and with recent rain fairways are much better than back in June. They've made a lot of improvements this year, maybe bunkers are next? Alas, hole # 8 still needs to be blown up and reconfigured, at least when it was a par 5 you had more options.
Great value for a great course, starter was awful
My expectations as we went to the "clubhouse" were pretty low, but once we got out there the course pleasantly surprised me. Had a lot of fog early so couldn't enjoy the first few holes as much as I would have liked, but it opened up and was very nice. Greens were perfect. Bent grass so not aerated quite yet. fairways were nice, tee boxes did the job.
Only issue was when we were putting on the practice green. We were berated and told we could either tee off right now (about 25 mins before our tee time), or wait until an hour past our tee time. It ended up working out as we were the first group out and played in about 3 hours. Lucky for him, and as I've just said, the course ended up playing amazing and the weather was perfect.
Great value for the money
Great course, we played after a heavy rainy night and the course was in great condition, bunkers full of water but other than that everything was fine. Green we’re in great condition. Definitely will play again.
Nice course for the money
Greens were in great shape. Pace of play was very slow. Too many twosomes which takes a lot of time. Suggest to pair foursomes on the busy weekend. Cart was very old, brakes were sketchy. No marshals to help pace of play. Overall I like the course and what they have done to the clubhouse to improve it.
Two very different nines
This was a real Jeckyll-and-Hyde round. Most of the front nine is extremely tight, with some hidden hazards. I really did not like it. But then the back nine is more wide open and fair. I liked it a lot. Apparently, most of the back nine was originally a nine-hole course. They later added most of what is now the front nine. Therefore, they are very different. That said, the greens were in great shape. Some tee boxes were a bit rough, but some were closed for maintenance. Fairways were average and bunkers were packed down.
Awesome experience
Great layout out, good pace of play and amazing customer service. Greens are in phenomenal condition. I will be back soon.
Good course and grass condition, terrible starter/pace
We went out for a rounding at 9AM on a Saturday. Previous day, it has rained over night so we understood that the condition may not be its best, such as wet bunker and mushy ground. Fairway and green was surprisingly good, aside from super spongy green and how slow the ball was when putting (again, rained prior night, very understandable).
One downside from general condition of the course itself, is the teebox. It appears as if they were not cut for weeks. full of weeds and ground was not level at all.
Course condition aside, course amenities are just OK. there is a bathroom, thats more than not having it I suppose, and there is a water dispenser on hole 9, but as expected it was not filled prior to them opening.
Now the worst part, the starter seems to have no clue what he is doing, sending out whoever is on their cart whenever he feels like it. Couse appears to be super overbooked, so while I was on the practice range warming up, Ive seen the starter sending groups out every few minutes, as short as 2-3 minutes. Obviously, groups piled up and rate of play under the hot weather was just insanely slow. It took my group of three 5 hours and 10 minutes to complete the course. Due to this experience, unless they change how they operate in booking and starting, I will not go back or recommend anyone.
Good course
Good course- greens are in good shape. Would like to see more activity from ranger in keeping play moving. No beverage cart is extremely disappointing given you start at the clubhouse and do not return until the 18th hole. Personal coolers should be encouraged
