Nice start for a beginner golfer
This was my first time golfing. Everyone was nice and I enjoyed my time practising game of golf.
Don’t play it!
The staff is very rude. I played the course yesterday and the course is in terrible condition and the staff will try to deny you the carts you pre pay for. I would not recommend golfing here.
Wasted Potential
My first visit to this course in almost a year. Each time I visit I keep hoping that there will be some improvement. Unfortunately things appear to be getting worse. The shame is that this course has soooo much potential. Compared with courses in the area with similar greens fees this course offers one of The best layouts nevertheless I won’t be back anytime in the near future. The greens are in pretty decent condition and offer challenges that make the round interesting. Some of the problems with this course are:
- The tee boxes are in horrible condition! They’re not cut and are often undistinguishable from the fairways.
- Additionally, most of the fairways have a lot of weeds in them.
- The bunkers haven’t had Sand in them in several years.
I Purchased greens fees through Golfnow at a reasonable price of $38 for Saturday round. I was a single adding on to a group of three. When I arrived I was informed that there was an additional $12 fee for me to ride in the cart alone. I think that is outrageous given the pandemic. Other courses in the area are not charging or just adding 3 to 5 dollars to ride alone. I wound up paying close to $50 to play that course. Not worth more than $25 green fee!
What is the potential! With a layout like they have they should really invest improvements. There are three other public courses within a 20 minute drive with comparable prices that find a way to balance quality with reasonable cost. I’m not sure why Southland can’t find a way to make it work.

Pace
The pace was way too slow. It took over 4.5 hours to play 18 holes.
4 to 4.5 hours late day on a Saturday is not unusual. During a round if you feel play is being held up call the club house and a marshal will be out to address the problem.
Early was good
Flew around in 3.5 hours and could have gone faster.
Little wet from the rain---and rain and rain
Couple traps unplayable, but just stay out of them
Hustling Golf Now patrons
First of all let me say off the bat that this a great course with many challenges to help you improve your abilities. My only problem is that the manager in the golf shop doesn't respect Golf Now patrons who've paid for their rounds up front INCLUDING CART! When I arrived to the course and checked in I noticed that the club house manager was acting kinda squirrly. He asked me if was I with someone else and I told him no I booked through Golf Now. He continued to fidget instead of handing me a cart key and only later that it dawned on me that he was waiting for other 10:40 patrons to show up so he can hustle cart money out of us. I told him that I paid for my cart already and was entitled to a golf cart without sharing with someone else, especially with this corona virus thing going on and plus it wasn't 5 cars in the parking lot! I was told no, and if I wanted a cart to myself it would cost me an extra $2.50. After challenging him about Golf Now policies I paid the extra $2.50 because he seemed very well prepared to decline my paid reservation. However, I called Golf Now to inquire about their policy regarding cart rentals and other things. I was told that the tee times booked under Golf now belong to Golf Now and are contractual and the course MUST honor those tee times including cart rentals! So let it be known now that I will NOT pay extra for Golf Now patrons a cart upon arrival and I totally expect my Golf Now reservation to be honored in its entirety! This totally would have been a 5 star review if it wasn't for the thirsty club house manager trying to hustle Golf Now patrons at the expense of Southland Golf course owners . You know who you are, and I hope the Club owners totally bounce your thirsty self for stealing from their patrons and running off business.
I suggest you check with Golf now and their policies. When you book with Golf Now you team up with other players, your fee includes 1/2 the cart, not the whole cart. The club house manager plays by all the rules set forth by the owner and Golf Now.
Our group generally had a good time playing today.
The pre-emerge and post-emerge for weeds is definitely lacking.
The layout is has several really good holes and a few quirky holes.
course super has stated the poa annua has been treated and will take effect with some extended hot weather. Ground temperature needs to rise.
Overall experience was good. The layout has several really good holes and a couple of quirky ones. The pre-emerge and post-emerge applications fir weed control are definitely lacking. The greens were in pretty good shape all the way around.
Staff was extremely rude
The staff member in the pro shop wouldn’t allow me to check in when I arrived. She made us wait until ten minutes before the tee time to check in and when she did she tried to make me pay extra for my own cart.
Review
I try to be fair when I write reviews but do want to point out some things that really rubbed me the wrong way. First and foremost I have played here several times and always thought it was a good place to play for bang for the buck. That all has changed now after this last experience I had there. First of all the lady that was in the pro shop was not a pro at all and more like a raging ...yea that Would not ever go back at this point to be talked to the way she talked to me and the people I was playing with. Also they felt the need to just change my tee time that I had booked in order to make it more convenient for them and there course. After changing my tee time I got behind a five some that would not let us or even a single player go through them. This made our place extremely slow and just feel like the people now running this course will run it into the ground very soon. We hey are rude and just do not care about your experience there. Also when we went to tee off despite our tee time and being punctual they did not have any keys for the golf carts...: uhh once again not my problem that they can not manage the course properly. The tee boxes are mostly in horrible shape but the greens and fairways are not terrible. I will personally choose other places from here out or at least until the staff has changed.
Extra charge to be safe
Booked a hot deal and currently I don’t carry cash got to course guy wanted another 5 dollars to single ride which I thought was part of the guideline now
Rough Shape, Beautiful views
Course would be really nice if they put any sort of effort into maintaining it. Tee boxes were not cut at all, hitting out of an extremely thin rough. Sand traps have grass and shrubs growing in them - no sand. Absolutely no yardage markers anywhere on the course... had to guess distance on every shot. Need to have a laser to play this course.
Love Love This Course!!
The only complaints I have about this course is that the bunkers were in poor shape. No sand on most of them just mud and some even had rocks in them! I wish they would work on that. The course was very challenging and beautiful. I will certainly play this course again and recommend it to anyone else!
Decent Neighborhood Course
Interesting, yet fun course. Course is in good shape (though it could use a little upkeeping from the storms from two days ago). Could use more in the way of signage and course info, as not every hole has info about yardage.
Southland GC
Staff are friendly, thought they were doing a really good job with cleaning & disinfecting the carts and they allowed single cart use for an additional $5, which I thought was reasonable.
They do need to cut the course and especially the tee-boxes. Also bunkers are terrible, no sand, lots of red mud and hard clay and no consistency except they were all bad.
The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. The course offers a wide variety in its layout and environment that you wind through.
Early Morning Round
This is a decent course and has a few challenging holes but for the most part you should be able to get around fairly easily. The course was a little wet and was a little fuzzy and needed to be cut. The greens were very good and fast but everything else needed a little TLC but I was the first off so I hit the course before anything other than the greens were done. Will play again because of the deal.
