Very good track, poor staff and upkeep
It was a good course layout. But poor upkeep and the pro shop attendant was very unfriendly and started off round on a bad note.
Great Green For the Money
Played here on Friday afternoon at 2 PM. Saw 1 other cart the whole round. Was great. Course was really dry, but everywhere is dry right now. These greens are really, really good for a inexpensive course. Extremely fast when putting downhill.
Holes 12-18 are really good. They should make hole 9 a par 3 and be done with it.
Bring your own beverages.
Good deal!
Fun course with some interesting holes that require challenging shot placement. Greens and fairways are in great condition but the sand traps are awful and the tee boxes are so hard it’s siddicult putting a tee in them. Was able to play a full round in 3 hours on Sunday afternoon which is awesome. The pro shop guys seem a little surly but I haven’t had any problems with them and they were cool when I called to report some stray dogs on the course. A good deal!
Staff was not friendly or welcoming.
I was shocked at the staff and their candor. Not hospitable at all. Never experienced that at this course. There was no water on the course. The greens were in really good condition. It is a good value for the money. And they have made a lot of improvements to the cart paths.
Good but hard course
This was like my 4th time playing at Southland and I have to say that the fairways and greens are in great shape, they need to fix the sand traps but other than that the course is in great shape. If you haven’t play there be prepare for a challenging front nine with a lot of blind tee shots and a lot of turns, back nine are a little easier.
no better greens anywhere
This is a fine course offering good variety of holes , an excellent GN value.
Tees and fairways were both good and the greens were exceptional/pristine------there can not be better greens anywhere at any price better that what I saw yesterday, props to the groundskeeper. On the negative side, no attention to the bunkers seems to be paid and really with that the case they should just fill then in with dirt cause it detracts from the overall great condition otherwise. Southland is quite a drive from Marietta but well worth the trip.
Ehhh. No.
Just... not at all what I expected. Most traps in poor condition.. Would not drink from water buckets; spouts looked gross. Snakes on cart path. Some good natural obstacles and the back 9 was more fun than the front. First thing I see when pulling into parking lot... overflowing dumpster. Pace of play was good... cause no one was there. Oddly, the starter had issues with me going out early but eventually relented.
Great value
Southland is a reliable option if you are looking for golf at a good value close to Atlanta. The course has a strong, challenging layout, with a few quirky holes thrown in that I wish I could dynamite. While you certainly shouldn’t expect “pristine” conditions, the course is usually in good shape (except the bunkers, but they’re supposed to be penal anyway!).
The day we played, they had just aerated the greens four days prior. We were given a discount on our greens fee, which was much appreciated. I’d expect the greens to be in very good shape in a couple weeks. They usually are.
Be aware the course doesn’t come back to the clubhouse after 9 holes, and there is no halfway house. Bring some energy bars!
Great Value. Maybe best in ATL
I’ve played Southland my entire life. About once or twice every year since the 9th grade. The course continues to improve each time I go back. The practice green is what you’ll get on the course which I find awesome. The course is in decent shape. The bunkers are gone and may not be able to be saved. The course is a GREAT value and the views and winding track make for a good day of golf
Course with Character
This is a course relatively close to home. It's got a great layout and is extremely challenging on certain holes from the tips. This is a winter review. I'm sure the course is in better shape during the summer. Great championship Bermuda greens.
Thank you for the 4-Star review! We appreciate you coming out and hope to see you again soon.
Best Value in Atlanta, Don't tell anyone
I love this course. You have to drive it straight or it will be a hard day. Greens could be frimer and faster. Best value in Atlanta. Driving range is only for loosening up.
We are looking into it?
To be honest, I haven't played the course. I am scheduled to play in a tournament here and so wanted to read reviews before I went. I am concerned because all of the problems that are current have been brought up many times and there doesn't seem to have been any change in the bunker, or course, or food service quality. The responses by management seem perfunctory and not followed up by any effort. Well see I guess, but the pattern seems pretty obvious. Doesn't make me look forward to playing there and would cancel if this wasn't money I am donating to charity.
Great Value
The course was in good shape. The greens were in good shape also.
Good value
Course was in good shape, except for the sand traps aka mud traps. They need sand and a whole lot of it.
LOL... This jerk can spell and is entitled to his own opinion. I tell you what... you can have this course all to yourself clown. I don't have to justify my opinion and you don't have to agree with it a-hole... and I certainly don't have to expose the price I paid to you or anyone else for that matter. $14 or not, this course would be better served if it just let that dumpster overflow all the way out into the fairways...
