Feel comfortable Recommending, Go play
Haven’t played here in several years. A group of 7 from our church got a great Hot Deal for 4 & combined with the winter rates for 3 & played for a good price for all. Greens, tee boxes & cart paths in good+ condition, fairways & sand traps need some work. Suggest filling in most if not all traps & emphasize improvement on fairways landing areas to save on maintenance budget yet improve overall course condition(s) No problem recommending & would go again.
Great day on the course
At first glance I didn’t expect much. However from the time I walked in the door the staff was cordial and knowledgeable- great guy.
The course was in very good condition for January just after several days of rain. Fairways were acceptable and greens were very good. Bunkers could use some work but not a big deal for our groups. I really enjoyed the layout and all 7 of us said we would definitely come back. Impressive jewel in the rough.
Par-Fection right around the corner
first off the golf course is amazing from the entrance to the 19th hole if you catch my drift. Terry greeted me as a professional with a friendly smile and plenty of information about the course. The course condition for this time of year was absolutely acceptable and gave glimpses of his former glory at itd opening Looking forward to playing this course in the very near future in the first part of April is my aim. The clubhouse looks to be in fantastic condition also has a staff cook providing all the goodies necessary for an excellent round before during and after. If your friends don't play golf please ask them to bring their tennis rackets because the tennis facilities are absolutely wonderful. I encourage you to give this golf, course sugar Creek, an opportunity to win your business as it has done mine. Absolutely fantastic enjoy!!
Southland has made some vast improvements!!!!
I was extremely impressed with the conditions of the course considering how it was. Some of the sand traps were flooded. Other than that I had a really great time. And hats off to the Course Superintendent for whipping this course back into shape . I will definitely be back!!!!
Absolute garbage course
This course has awful employees that have no sense of urgency for getting groups off the tee on time and not friendly. My group of 4 took 4 hours to play 13 holes. As it turned out they had three groups of twosomes holding everyone up. Where was a ranger? I don’t know. Don’t waste your time coming to this cow pasture.
Oh quick note, they don’t serve alcohol either.
Grumpy Pro Shop, Just OK Course, Good Greens
I’ve played Southland maybe 100 times. Greens are as green and full as they’ve ever been. Very soft and receptive. Also very slow though and kind of furry in places.
Fairways are OK. Three or four tee boxes make you choose between hitting out of dirt or hitting out of rough.
The worst thing about this place though is the grumpy pro shop. It doesn’t cost anything to be nice. This dude gave me a lecture because I put my clubs on the “wrong” cart. He also got super defensive and almost mad when I asked for a cart key, I imagine because he thought I wanted to go out early because he grumbled my tee time at me. I was the only person there.
This might be a great place to bring a kid to learn the game, but just tell the little ones to meet you around back.
Airborne
The course is in excellent condition except for the bunkers! If they put sand in the bunkers it would be a 4+ stars course!
Very good track, poor staff and upkeep
It was a good course layout. But poor upkeep and the pro shop attendant was very unfriendly and started off round on a bad note.
Great Green For the Money
Played here on Friday afternoon at 2 PM. Saw 1 other cart the whole round. Was great. Course was really dry, but everywhere is dry right now. These greens are really, really good for a inexpensive course. Extremely fast when putting downhill.
Holes 12-18 are really good. They should make hole 9 a par 3 and be done with it.
Bring your own beverages.
Good deal!
Fun course with some interesting holes that require challenging shot placement. Greens and fairways are in great condition but the sand traps are awful and the tee boxes are so hard it’s siddicult putting a tee in them. Was able to play a full round in 3 hours on Sunday afternoon which is awesome. The pro shop guys seem a little surly but I haven’t had any problems with them and they were cool when I called to report some stray dogs on the course. A good deal!
Staff was not friendly or welcoming.
I was shocked at the staff and their candor. Not hospitable at all. Never experienced that at this course. There was no water on the course. The greens were in really good condition. It is a good value for the money. And they have made a lot of improvements to the cart paths.
Good but hard course
This was like my 4th time playing at Southland and I have to say that the fairways and greens are in great shape, they need to fix the sand traps but other than that the course is in great shape. If you haven’t play there be prepare for a challenging front nine with a lot of blind tee shots and a lot of turns, back nine are a little easier.
