Schaumburg Golf Club - Players/Baer Course
About
The 27-hole course at Schaumburg Golf Club is divided into three nines that are played in different 18-hole combinations that range from just over 6,000 yards to 6,700 yards. The Tournament, Baer, and Players Courses all provide a unique set of challenges but they share the same great conditions on their tees, greens, and fairways. Schaumburg has been host to numerous events since opening in 1928, including the U.S. Open Qualifying and Illinois Open Qualifying tournaments. It is a popular course since the club offers country club amenities and quality with the affordability of a public golf course. Schaumburg's Players/Baer combination starts out with a few tricky carries over water on the front nine and a more forgiving back nine. There are strategically placed bunkers throughout the course, however.

My home course
Great course, always in great condition. Greens are nice and fast just like I like them. Course rarely if ever disappoints!
New and Improved
Schaumburg GC remodeled all three 9's. Last time I played here, only the Players 9 was remodeled, and the other two were either in progress or next in line. They remodeled one each year for three years in a row. This course is $ 85 to ride on weekends at prime time. I think with the location, remodel and real GPS on the carts now, it's worth it. I can play other courses for less, but then have to drive about 30 minutes to get there. .
What's better? The greens are more sporty than I remembered them being, and it took me a few holes to get a handle on the speed, and how much they rolled out. Keep the ball below the hole. Sidehill putts are tricky, too, as you'll roll out. The fairways seem about the same, aside from new grass and movement of a few bunkers. Have fun!
Hands down probably the nicest public course in the area. They have 3-9hole courses rotating so whether you play 9 or 18 you'll get some variety each time you play. Great hole variety and course is always in immaculate shape. They do charge quite a bit but you can sometimes snag a hotdeal in advance. Pace is usually pretty good depending on the day.
Terrible experience on multiple occasions
Much better courses in the area. Here’s my experience. I get hyped for golf around Independence Day. One reason because I’m a Vet and I love my country. The second reason is because my birthday is right around that day. I went to this course on my birthday and wanted to play as a single. But I asked the gentleman at the counter if my wife could ride with me because she doesn’t play but wanted to be with me because she knows how much I love the sport, and he told me no it was against policy and a liability. So I walked out upset that I wasn’t going to get to play that hyped course on that day. Fast forward and I try again, this time by myself. Lo and behold the pairing I’m grouped with was a father and his family. They were very nice. The daughter did not play. She just rode with her father. So much for policy.
Now the review, course layout is nice. That’s about the only nice thing. The few times I’ve played the greens are abysmally slow. Uphill/Downhill it doesn’t matter, you can over strike a putt and it will still only go halfway. Nobody that plays there fixes ball marks on the greens and everybody drags their feet. I spent half the time fixing about six to seven ball marks on each green. The reason I did so was because I had no where to go. Which leads me to pace of play. Horrid. Several holes with two to three group backups and not once did I see a ranger out there trying to fix this issue. Really messes with rhythm. Let’s talk about staff. Despite the policy issue already stated, the starter was rude and unhelpful. I was never greeted and when I finally walked up to him and mentioned that I was a single at such and such time his only response was “Ok”. I had to walk up to a couple groups to figure out who had the same tee time as me and inform them I was going to fill their group. Halfway house woman was nice. Better courses in the area. Especially for that price.
Could be a private country club
Played this course a few years ago and remembered it to be a nice layout. It was even better now. They have 3 nines and we played the Tournament and Players courses. Both were in perfect shape from tee to green with plenty of sand in the many bunkers. The greens have lots of undulations and were extremely fast - so much so that most putts from above the hole wound up 5 - 10 feet past. Lots of water and prairie grass to avoid, but it's a beautiful course. We found a Hot Deal which seemed to be a great deal, but didn't notice that carts are extra at $20 each, which is rather high. We let 2 twosomes play through and then got scolded by a less than pleasant ranger on the 16th tee for being 15 mins behind. Still finished in 4 hrs 20 mins. They have a nice driving range with plenty of natural grass stations. The restaurant looks inviting, but we didn't eat there.
Course Is in Great Shape
My first time here, and played the Baer 9 holes. The greens and fairways were in great condition, and the white sand in the bunkers was pristine (and I avoided all of them!). Fairways are wide, but bunkers around greens making some holes challenging. At the price paid, this is an excellent value.
Steph insisted I buy their park district card to get the rate that was advertised on Golfnow
Overall good
Everything is good except cart fee. Fee was $15 but now they increase cart fee as $20. they don’t charge cart properly and cart was stopped due to none charge during playing, never be happened 2 years golfing. But they charge $20 non-sense. next year maybe charge $30 For cart fee. It is other public course charge amount including cart fee.
Nice course but on the expensive side
Nice course to play. I will probably give it a 4stars but the green fee is a little expensive. This is a nine hole course and I can play 18 holes in other golf course with this price.
Good course
Great Course. Great lay-out. Been years since I have played. It is beautiful. Not cheap anymore, careful of extra $40 extra for a cart. Otherwise very challenging a better have your A game to shoot well/
Thanks,
George
