About
Annbriar Golf Course in Waterloo is one of the top 10 golf courses in Illinois. The course was built on rolling farmland covered with native wild grasses. The layout eases you into the challenges with a links-style front nine that is less demanding than the back nine. The fairways are invitingly wide but if you miss them, you'll be faced with thick fescue. The back nine takes advantage of the surprisingly undulating terrain, which is unexpected since just across the river the land is almost totally flat. Annbriar's signature hole, the par-4 11th, was voted the best hole in the St. Louis area. From an elevated tee, golfers enjoy a stunning view as they play down into a valley. This hole is also the no. 1 handicap hole on Annbriar Golf Course.

1st time
Not sure what conditions are like at other courses in the area, but this was extremely wet and sloppy. It was cart path only and if you left the cart path you woukd have been stuck. It is a nice layout. I would like to try it a different day when everything is optimal. Staff was friendly.

The course was very sloppy due to the recent rain, greens still recovering from aeration, bunkers had piles sand that hadn’t been raked out, poanna in some of the greens. They will have things worked out as the weather warms up, most probably.

Want to come back
This is one of the top rated public courses in the area and I can see why. I played early in the season so everything was still brown, but could tell it was a beautiful course with lots of great holes, especially if you like a links layout.

Winter conditions
Luckily the weather was good. Cart path only because the course is still wet. Few players today so we finished in 4 hours.

One of my Favorites
Even with the recent rains and winter conditions the course played very well. The greens were in relatively excellent condition. You will be hard-pressed to find a better course in the St Louis area.

Family Golf Trip
Three of us met at Annbriar golf course to golf and spend time together. We absolutely loved this course and we even golfed 18 holes in a light rain all day! So glad we selected this course to play. The owner sat and visited with us after our golf round. So interesting to hear his story and the development of this course. We wish him well and thank him for creating such a beautiful place! We will be back!

A solid place to play.
Annbriar Golf Course is a nice track to play. The front nine is very solid and easily walkable. The back nine has some exciting holes but walking it is not recommended. The 18 is definitely memorable and worth coming back to play.
The maintenance of the course on this date was fair but not to the high standards that previous reviews made me expect. The fairways and tee boxes were fairly shaggy, as well as the greens. It was obvious that the summer heat had taken its toll a little bit but there’s nothing you can do about that. The bunkers had plenty of sand but hadn’t been worked that day by maintenance and players also failed to take them after play. Even with these things, the course played well and was fair.
I’m not sure if this is the best public course in the St. Louis area, but it is definitely worth playing.
Great weekend
We had a two couples foursome on our first visit to Annbriar. We had a great experience at Annbriar. I had seen reviews on Golf Advisor and thought our foursome would enjoy the course. My partner and I live in Kansas City and our friends in Racine, WS. So it was no small effort to get there, we're all happy that we chose to do the trip. We played Saturday and Sunday, September 22nd and 23rd, 2018.
We thought the course was in great condition. Fair but a challenge. Fairways are generous, you don't have to hit every tee ball down a bowling alley to be in play on you second shot. Many holes give you a risk/reward opportunity to challenge the course. Contoured beautifully to let you enjoy the wetlands and beautiful woodlands on which the course is set.
The course was not busy on Sunday, we teed off and never had anyone behind us. The only other players we saw were holes ahead of our group, a truly relaxing round of golf with our good friends.
After our Sunday round, we sat out on the patio for a couple Gin and tonics and cigars (at least the guys). The club owner, Bill Nobbe, was walking around the clubhouse and upon seeing strangers sitting outside, came over and talked to us for some time. He sat with us at our table and told us the story of building the course. Even told us a risque little story about the construction of the course. We had a great time and will be planning a return trip next year.
9-26-18 Review
This is the 3rd or 4th time I have played Annbriar Golf Course over the past several years. I live in Charlotte, NC. and I'm here visiting my father. So while I'm in town I usually play 3 rounds, and the first time I played Annbriar, it became a must play course. The fairways have been immaculate along with the the greens everytime I have played. The bunkers were hard packed due to recent rains on this years round, but have been very good in the past and I'm sure those will get attention soon. The staff has always been good to me and also worked me in on my first 2 trips as a walk in. I only have good things to say about Annbriar and we will see you next year!

Annbriar best around
I'm a member at Gateway National which bills itself as the best public course in St Louis...and it is a great course but I can tell you, if I lived closer to Waterloo I would become a member there !!!

This place is absolutely fantastic. Read some reviews that said it was in bad shape, they must have been somewhere else. Will be back ASAP
