Annbriar Golf Course
About
Annbriar Golf Course in Waterloo is one of the top 10 golf courses in Illinois. The course was built on rolling farmland covered with native wild grasses. The layout eases you into the challenges with a links-style front nine that is less demanding than the back nine. The fairways are invitingly wide but if you miss them, you'll be faced with thick fescue. The back nine takes advantage of the surprisingly undulating terrain, which is unexpected since just across the river the land is almost totally flat. Annbriar's signature hole, the par-4 11th, was voted the best hole in the St. Louis area. From an elevated tee, golfers enjoy a stunning view as they play down into a valley. This hole is also the no. 1 handicap hole on Annbriar Golf Course.

Golfer Reviews
Great Course, not enough regulation on slow play
Love Annbriar; it is one of the top public course in the St. Louis area. Fortunate to have a 50' day in January to play some golf at a great hot deal rate for a foursome at noon on Sunday. Unfortunate to have a BRUTALLY slow pace of play on the course. The front 9 took 3 hours. The workers said there was a slow 4-some a few groups ahead of us, however there was also 2 2-somes that would not group up together. When we called the pro shop they said they couldn't make them play together (which seemed strange to me) but said they would get a ranger out to move things along. We let a single play through thinking he'd get to join, but the 2-some refused like some bozos. After playing/waiting 2:30 hours we saw the staff head out when we were waiting on the 8th tee box to move things along. Again, Annbriar is one of the top courses in St. Louis, but this was a disappointing round (5+ hours) and certainly a let down.
My favorite course in the St. Louis metro area
Believe me, I’ve played every public course with 100 miles of St. Louis and you will not find a more beautiful, peaceful and challenging 18 holes...period. The only home on the course is the original farmhouse. It’s a true escape and pleasure to play every single time.
Another great round at Ann Briar
Took advantage of a great Golf Now Hot Deal for my last 18hole round for the year. Conditions were excellent for end of December. Greens putted moderately fast and true. The staff was very friendly and we played in 3 and 1/2hours. All in all, a great end to the golf year. Couldn’t find anything to complain about.
STL golf gets NO BETTER than Annbriar
This course is just fun on just about every hole. Greens can be tough, scenery fantastic, and the golf is as good as it gets anywhere within an hour of STL.
A beautiful and challenging course
Annbriar is a jewel as one of the best courses in the St Louis area. Two challenging nines - one with open dunes style and the other of the wooded variety. The scenery is beautiful, but you have to stay sharp because the layout can be very challenging. Nice practice facilities - driving, putting & sand. The staff in the clubhouse is very friendly and welcoming, and don't forget to eat at the grill because the food is really top notch...so many choices! Highly recommended to recreational and serious golfers.
Ann would have been proud of her course
I have played several times a year since its opening. It is by far the best public course in the area 75 mile radius from my house. Have played 544 different courses and 167 in the area 80 mile radius. The course conditions are not always perfect but range from very good to acceptable. The design and layout are right on. How many golf course can claim having a golfer fall in a sink hole on the course? I have ranked Annbriar 25 out of 544 total courses.
Love this golf course!
They have changed a few Of the holes to make easier play—#11 comes to mind. Really enjoyed the day !
Annbriar simply the best in Area
Been playing Annbriar for a long time. William Nobbe, Kevin Schaefer and the course Superintendent along with their staffs do a fantastic job on and off the course.
Great friendly Pro Shop and well stocked with quality merchandise. Bar and restaurant friendly and have great food. Golf course is simply the best in the STL Metro area. Wonderful layout and it gives you a choice with a lot of different Redbox selections.
Always in good shape!
Keep up the good work! Wish I lived closer I would be a member for sure!
Great Hidden Treasure
This course has great owners and staff, great views and it is always in wonderful condition. There are easy holes, tough holes and creative holes. It is always a pleasure to play. It is also friendly for the higher handicap and female golfers. Highly recommend.
Outstanding - Highly Recommended 4.5 stars
My first time back to Waterloo since 2002 to experience this out of the way Southern Illinois gem near St. Louis. In wonderful shape except for a few wet sand traps....greens were rolling wonderfully minor aeration marks/ball marks but overall excellent and a lot of fun. Greens are rolled every morning and their first tee time is 8am (they don't let anyone out prior). Annbriar is extremely well designed, lots of golf eye candy and keeps your interest throughout the round. The back nine especially so. The 11th hole dog leg right par 4 simply put is one of the most beautiful holes you'll ever ever encounter with fall colors nirvana. Framed by amphitheater of trees your elevated tee shot must be struck with care as a creek/water hazard winds completely down the left side of the fairway bends right into the fairway at about a 160 carry or so and the backs off way left again which is where you need to aim.... but then the creek completely crosses the fairway at about 110 yards out and winds to the right side of the green with a small pond. The hole is almost Augusta National like .....standing on this tee box first timers your mouth will be agape and mine was again 15 years later.
All the accolades aside, I do have to downgrade because walking the course is near impossible and you're going to encounter some of the most dangerous cart driving and cement cart paths imaginable. The cart paths are extremely slick there are a ton of ups and downs, slopes and sharp curves and so you have to pay 100pct attention at all times....it's a cart driving test even for professionals (getting the cart around in one piece might be more difficult than the golf course) so 1/2 a star off. 3 holes cart path only due to wet conditions including the 11th and 18th holes mentioned above.
Practice trap/putting area near first green with another green by the clubhouse. Decent driving range. Small proshop with a smokehouse restaurant that gets some nice reviews. Didn't notice if full locker room facilities exist (don't think so).
With the site being so close to the Mississippi river don't be fooled Annbriar is far from flat as pancake the designer Hurdzan had some wonderful topography with elevations to route this gem. Fun par 3's as well as several strong par 4's. A really nice finishing par 5 with uphill approach toward the clubhouse completes your journey.....and you'll want to come back again. Expect very friendly folks and excellent course conditions.
As good as it gets!
This has to be one of the top public courses in Illinois. From tee boxes to greens and everything in between was really in wonderful shape. Keep up the good work.
Great course
Fabulous layout, challenging course with a variety of holes. Relaxing round of golf without any road noise or homes nearby. Staff very friendly , great food, I cannot say enough about the quality of this course.
Fantastic course
I really enjoy playing Annbriar. It is fair, beautiful and challenging!
