Ocean City Golf Club - Newport Bay
About
Ocean City Golf Club boasts 36 holes of championship golf. The Seaside Course opened in 1959 and it was later joined by the Newport Bay Course. Both offer scenic views of the surrounding marshes and bay. Newport Bay is a formidable challenge but it will test your ability to think strategically, not your distance. Strategically placed bunkers come into play and the subtle contours of the landscape were utilized to their full extent. The course is a formidable test but it is player friendly enough to appeal to all skill levels. The golf course also touts some of the most scenic views on the Mid-Atlantic coast, although the surroundings are more Carolinian in feel. Both of Ocean City's courses offer something different. Seaside has a more traditional design but both offer plenty of variety.

Seen better days...
We played the Seaside course..of course there is no seaside to be seen. Sorry...but this is the kind of course I played when I was 16 and learning to play. It's a dog track...clearly they are not doing the maintenance necessary. Cart paths are a wreck. Some of the tee boxes we had a tough time finding grass. Our tee off was 30 minutes delayed as the starter kept sending people off. The club house feels like the land that time forgot. Again sorry....but this place needs some tlc both on the course and in the amenities.
very nice course and staff
Still early season conditions but very good. Greens rolling, true fairways good shape but tight lies as the grass is still a little brown. Sand traps very good tees just fine and the rough was not real tall. Nice layout with lots of trouble waiting if your start spraying it. Not unbearably tight driving but if you hit a bad one could find some water. really pretty views of marshland and a bay on the back nine, The wind blows pretty stiff off the water and added to the challenge. well worth the trip hope to play it often.
It’s a mystery how this course is 4 stars.
Since we arrived we have experienced nothing but a frenzied mess of a golf course. The starter told us to go to the wrong course, not to mention rudely. The course condition is terrible. Starters are literally incopentant. First and last time I’ll be playing this course. The only positive is we payed half of what others paid!
Nice views of the water
Great value for the money, greens had been aerated and sanded but still rolled true, fairways and rough were were still dormant, brutal playing conditions with cold and wind, all agreed would love to play again when the grass is actively growing
Could only play 9 holes
Because of the time of year and weather conditions the course was wet, and there weren’t that many players. I couldn’t get hooked up with a twosome or threesome , and had to play alone.
Not bad for winter golf
was cold and windy, sprinkled a little rain also. Condition is what was expected for mid winter golf in this area. Cart path only made it a little longer day than what I wanted. No standing water though.
Nice place to play.
Beautiful course, great scenery of the Bay. Friendly staff and great chicken salad.
Wonderful course
This course is a hidden gem. Great layout with million dollar views. And the price is right. If you're lucky enough to play in light wind you can definitely score. If the wind is up you're in for a challenge.
late fall perfect
played late fall in perfect conditions. Great water views, greens rolled true, fairway grass was dormant due to time of year and pace of play was great. This is a course not well known unless you live here but a really good choice to play.
A Surprising Gem
I was very impressed with the Newport Bay Course. The layout is very old-style with Holes moving both ways and relatively small greens. There are several holes along the water or marshes, which are beautiful. We saw several bald eagles fly overhead and there were plenty of other birds around the course. A warning, though. We had winds that were probably 25 mph sustained and gusts over 30 mph. The back nine is very open and was brutal to play in that wind.
Awesome staff made the round!
Newport Bay is a nice course with gorgeous vistas especially on the back 9 but something about the course feels like it was squeezed into the property and doesn't seem to quite flow. The staff was incredibly accommodating. Though we were supposed to be paired with another golfer, the starter offered to start us on the back 9 which was wide open. At the turn, the starter told us we could play wherever as there was nobody on the course that late in the day. We played a few holes on the front 9 which were not as pictuesque or interesting as the back so we skipped over to Seaside and played 9 or so holes. Frankly, I enjoyed Seaside more and would look to play that course next time. Regardless, both were fun courses especially for the prices Golfnow offers. The staff made day though!
Great staff equals great time
My foursome travels from NYC and Philadelphia to OC once a year to play and OCGC is the one course we play every year. This year we got to play both Courses thanks to to Buddy and Chris, who helped us overcome a scheduling conflict. These gentlemen worked with us to insure we enjoyed their courses and we cannot thank them enough. Great staff everywhere at this facility.
The course is in excellent shape and challenged you with a risk reward type of play, for mid handicappers like us, especially at the Newport course. We would recommend this as a must play on your OC golf list.
Newport Bay course in excellent condition
For the end of summer this course is in the best condition that I have ever played! The greens are smooth and rolling true! The tees and fairways are also in great condition! Pace of play was great and we really enjoyed the day. Will definitely play again soon!
Great course for the money
The Newport Bay course is a great course for the money. Teed off at 11 on a Sunday and finished in 4 hours. The course is in great shape given the combination of extreme heat and tons of rain. Greens were running great.
The ranger and all the folks at the course are super friendly. And the price for food and drinks at the clubhouse are extremly reasonable.
I would recommend Newport Bay for low handicappers as well as the average golfer.
Hidden gem
One of the best courses in OC and absolutely the best for the money. They have two 18 hole layouts. Both are excellent and have totally different layouts. The ocean course is built primarily through the wooded part of course. It consists of mostly open fairways with a few water carries. The Newport Bay course is built on the shoreline of Newport Bay which brings water into play on many holes. Of the two I prefer Newport Bay even though it might be the tougher of the two.
I think you will find either course enjoyable and the people at the course couldn't be more courteous or helpful. Next time you are in Ocean City drop by and see for yourself, I don't think you will be disappointed.
