River Run Golf Course
About
River Run Golf Club in Ocean City is just minutes away from the beach. The golf course has different front and back nines that make for an interesting round. This Gary Player design starts out across a wide-open landscape before moving on to more tree-lined terrain on the backside. The tighter back nine is tougher than the first nine but overall it's an approachable golf course. The player-friendly layout is gentle enough for beginners with medium-sized greens that aren't especially difficult and generous fairways that offer plenty of room. There is modest bunkering along the greens and fairways and a few lakes and some marshland come into play as well. While River Run Golf Club may not be the most formidable test, the course provides just enough of a challenge for scratch golfers.

6th "Green" Photo submitted by DrOldSchool on 08/15/2018
Not worth the money in current condition!
Course is on really bad shape. Very large mud patches all over the fairways. Many most? Of the greens had rot or damage. WAY too much money for the shape of the course.
Overpriced
The course is in horrible shape, burned out everywhere. The back nine smells because they spread sewage in the woods. Greens will horribly slow and half gone. Not worth the $110 they charged. Much better options in OC. I won’t return.
Work needed
Fairways were burned out in spots. Greens could be watered more often to get out to smooth out recent areating aeration
Horrible course
fairways and greens were easily the worse I’ve ever seen. Staff should make you aware when booking. No cart service when we were told they were on the course, turn house closed and club house was closed at the end of our round 7pm
Disappointing Course Conditions
I have enjoyed playing River Run many times in the past ten years, but have to say the round yesterday was quite disappointing due to poor course conditions. The area had a lot of rain the past few weeks, and apparently the moisture and heat were very hard on the course. Most greens and tee boxes were ok, but the fairways were a mess. I'm not a turf expert, but suspect extensive damage from fungus. In any event, the course was unexpectedly cart path only. The pro shop staff said that was an effort to avoid further damage to the fairways. We are only half way through the summer, so I won't return until well into the Fall when hopefully the grass will have recovered.
Run the other way
Skip the 630, grumpy staff, poor communication, mowers the whole time, skip this course
What’s the good news answer Cart path only. Keep it light just say Good morning. Please don’t get out of your chair because of a customer?
Don’t open if not ready, all other courses wait until 7.
Let the management group know the team won’t be ready for 630 tee times!
Potential
Played the front 9, late afternoon, on a holiday weekend, with 3 family members who are not avid golfers. A 5some of 3 girls and 2 guys went out before us (after getting there at their tee time). We waited for a bit on the first tee while all 5 struggled, then they picked up and moved on, but that was the start.
The course seems crammed in between a housing development. Surprised Gary Player put his name on it. I can only imagine how many houses get hit every day. To be fair, the grounds were in decent shape. However, massive divots abound throughout the course, including one on the 7th green (which I was able to find the loser’s divot and repair the best I could). You can imagine the ball marks on every green.
So, a crammed course attracting casual (at best) golfers, makes this a hard course to recommend, unless you’re a casual golfing group looking for an acceptable place to play. That’s what we were.
Pro shop staff was friendly.
Good Layout
Bones of a great golf course you can tell it gets a lot of play but for the price you expect a lot more. $100+ tee time with a limited range, slower greens, and decent fairway. Not many options in OC for good golf but there is definitely better options.
Fun but thirsty
Staff was very friendly. Course was in very good condition. Pace of play was not an issue. Met and played with some great people! There are some great places to find shade on the course but they need to find a way to get more drinking water available on the course. Maybr place coolers on the cart so we can bring our own drinks and ice?
