Course

Course is amazing views but for the price I don’t know if I will come on the weekends, front desk was nice , he told me there no water or cart personal so I had to take my own water , pace of play slow , for the price there should be better amenities, oh also the range was closed also .

Disappointing Experience for the Price, can’t come back

At a $180 tee time, expectations are high, and unfortunately this round did not deliver. Greens were running around a 9.5 and were fairly bumpy, which alone didn’t justify the price. Course conditions overall were underwhelming, with spotty tee boxes—even considering winter conditions.

Pace of play was unacceptable. The round took about 5.5 hours, with no course marshal in sight. All day we encountered groups stacked on tees and fairways while the group ahead was still on the green, and nothing was done to manage it.

There was no on-course water available, aside from the turn around hole 11, which should be communicated at the first tee. The beverage cart never came through when water was needed early in the round. No tees in the cart was another small but noticeable miss at this price point.

There is also no driving range (maintenance day on a holiday round). I arrived early expecting to warm up and could only chip and putt on average greens. Credit to the starter for pairing me with an earlier group as a single—that was appreciated. Staff experience overall was top tier.

Overall, the experience didn’t match the premium pricing, and I likely wouldn’t return.

***Honest International Visitor Review***

Pro’s

- Excellent layout with challenging rough.

- Greens are pure, receptive, and reward well struck iron shots. Bunkers were also excellent!

- Pace of play was amazing however our tee time was 6:32am. Second group of the day so take that with a grain of salt

- visually stunning, amazing vistas, views of Riverside and surrounds.

- course design is amazing! Risk/reward par 4s are the standout that make you think off the tee. The signature 16th was also breathtaking!

Con’s

- Tee beds were very long. In saying that, there have just been two days of heavy rain and the greens staff wouldn’t have been able to mow because of this.

- having a tee time at 6:32am and having us tee off in the dark is ridiculous. Especially considering the price you are paying for this course.

- Before the round we were told several holes would be cart path only due to the rain (understandable); however, there is nothing in the GPS in the carts that tell you which holes are cart path only. Therefore our cart shutoff multiple times due to going on some holes. This needs to be addressed, or at least give warning to players on the assigned hole.

Overall

This course will chew up the beginner golfer and spit you out. I don’t recommend this course if you are a weekend warrior. Loved the round and will definitely be back. Highly recommend getting a very early tee time or be prepared for a 5-6 hour round. Upon finishing our round there were 6 carts waiting on the first tee to start.

Very disappointed

Very disappointed. After checking in and paying ($99 on a non-holiday Monday), we were informed that there would be a 30 minute delay. It ended up being closer to 20, but the pace of play was so slow that we only got through 14 holes before dark (our tee time was 12:16). We never saw a marshal. The condition of the course was also disappointing. I have played there many times over the past 25 years and the condition was the worse I've ever seen it. Notably, I had a simlar tee time to play there a couple years ago and we were told at check in that there would be a nearly two hour delay and that we would be lucky to play 12 holes before dark. The reason for the delays and slow play is obvious -- they book tee times 8 minutes apart. That would imply a 2.4 hour round. The reality is more than double that, if you are lucky. We have had enough and will not be going back.

Over 5-1/2 hour round

When you pay this amount of money, you should expect a round where you are not waiting on every tee box. Ridiculous.

$200 Round with no Driving Range and Average Conditions

The layout of this place is really fun but it’s way overpriced. Definitely doesn’t provide value with a $200 round that doesn’t offer a driving range to warm up, holes aren’t cut clean, bunkers are awful, grass is spotty in areas, and conditions are average to good. I get that’s it’s a great layout but it’d be nice to feel like you’re getting a premium experience out of the premium price,

One of the tougher inland course

Awesome course. The most challenging I’ve played inland. Conditions were pure. Rough was thick as a warning not the easiest to find a ball in or get out of. Definitely would recommend playing this course even being pricey for inland it’s justified by the conditions and layout.

Fallen off

This course used to be incredible. They clearly let it go over the summer. Burned areas all around. Looks like they have some sort of brush fire too. We teed off 10-15 minutes late because the first tee was backed up. They had a marshall try to speed people up but we still finished 5.25 hours after our original tee time. Not to mention the range is closed until Halloween and the grass within 50 yards of greens had just been punched (no warnings for either of these anywhere in golf now) Not gonna come back until I hear they’ve made huge changes to course conditions

Overrated, most disappointed I have been with a course while traveling.

Let’s stick to the facts, no opinion's here. $175.00 per person for 11:10am. Greens were AWFUL, recently punched and this was not advertised. You could not roll a putt without bumps and turns due to sand and holes. NO DRIVING RANGE, and NO PUTTING OR CHIPPING AREAS. They had kids classes on all practice areas so you could not putt or chip, they do not have a driving range at the moment either. SO WHAT DID WE pay over $700 as a foursome for??? So you pay 175 per person plus golf now fees, and you sit there waiting for your tee time without being able to hit the range or putt… tee boxes were mediocre at best, greens were trash, fairways were average, most bunkers were not kept up, and cuts around the green were comparable to most $50 munis. I regret taking a flight to play black gold, and I am beyond disappointed that I paid over $700 dollars for this experience, or lack thereof. A local member even told us how bad the course is at the moment compared to what it can be, he apologized for the conditions and was shocked with the amount we paid
