Stay Away From The Fairways
I have not played at Rutgers in about five years. Prior to that I typically played there about 2-3 times a year. The course layout is nice and one of the main selling points was the course conditions were usually perfect. A friend of mine and I were going to be in the area on September 24 so I suggested we play at Rutgers noting my past experiences. To my surprise and shock the fairways on this course were absolutely horrible. There were so many bare spots and burnt out grass areas we joked that it was better to hit in the rough or the traps. This deterioration didn't happen overnight. They should not be charging normal rates for a course in this poor condition. When we asked why the fairways were so bad we were advised it was due to heavy rains, poor drainage and hot, dry spells. My firend and I have played numerous rounds at other courses in the NJ/NY metro area and none of them had fairways in poor condition yet they all expereinced the same weather patterns. I would love to play this course again but only if and whn it returns to a conditon of quality as in the past.
Not worth the money
$70 + round for a course with filled with crab grass and fairways that look like Oakland Raiders Coliseum filled with dirt. Not sure where the Green fees go, but certainly not into maintenance. Major stay away

What happened!?!?
Holy cow! Used to play this track once a week for years, and this was my 2nd time here this year (first time was back in May) and I was SHOCKED to the core last week.! What the heck happened? Tee boxes were weeds in many spots and just not good.. bunkers were decent but the fairway.. so many of the fairway, DESTROYED.. clearly they didn’t water them a few weeks ago on the heat. The roots and grass are GONE in many places, will require full reSod in many spots. Very sad. This is NOT the BIG TEN quality of a Big10 collwge.. very embarrassing. And pace of play, needs some rangers to speak up and keep people moving .. won’t be back anytime soon. After what I saw and what they charged. Just wrong !

Horrible fairways/tee boxes
This course used to be almost worth the $60. Now it’s not even worth half that. The fairways are awful. It’s like they don’t care anymore. The tee boxes are overgrown on a lot of holes. If you spend anywhere even remotely close to $60, you better get a nice course. Don’t go to Rutgers until they figure it out.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass on your feedback on price and conditions to the teams in charge so they can work to make changes. Thanks for visiting Rutgers University Golf Course. We hope to see you again in the future.
Always nice
Always a great place to play , they space you out well great practice facilities before to warm up . The conditions are usually top shelf but the summer weather has seemed to catch up to them some fairways were very bad . Greens excellent tee boxes fair
What a disappointment
Consecutive groups of 2 players backup up play at every hole culminating in Nearly a 5- hour Round. More weeds and bare-spots then fairway and tee-boxes were in awful condition. Terrible value, will not be back.
We apologize for the pace of play issue you experienced. We always try to keep a a great pace when having our golfers on the course. Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback as we will use your review to better the experience going forward. We hope you give us another try in the near future!
Lower your rates
Not good value for your money, the course has always been in good condition before. Golfers need to fix there pitch mark and a few others. Maybe hand out plastic repair tools with the Rutgers logo on it. Hopefully next time the conditions are much improved. Didn't see grass area on the driving range. Bathroom was clean. Greens are a little on the slow side.

Not Really Good Conditions
Fairways are extremely poor, bunkers good shape. Greens had plenty of pitch marks & were slow. This is not $70 course..A good price would be $25 with cart.

LikenRutgers course, but.....
It’s a very nice layout and the greens are in good shape. But, the fairways are a complete disaster. Not sure what happened. I will give credit the greens are in tip top shape. Even with all the hackers not fixing ball marks! Why can’t people do this?

Disappointing
Used to play this course a lot in years past, but not so much recently. The greens are the biggest challenge here as it's a fairly short and straightforward layout otherwise. The good news is the greens were in decent shape (except for the ball marks, but that's not unique to this course). Fairways and tee boxes were horrendous. By far the worst course conditions I've seen this spring and summer at any course in the area. Lots of burn out areas and ugly crab grass. Doesn't say much for Rutgers U's turf management program.
It's playable, but not worth what they charge given the current conditions. Go somewhere else until they figure out how to keep the course in good condition.

Very poor conditions.
Not sure where to begin here. I have played this course for decades and I was so disappointed in the playing conditions. The tee boxes were terrible. Bare spots all over and crab grass. The fairways were also filled with crab grass and dirt ruts. The greens were slow and did not roll true. Not sure if they are ever rolled at all. This course is an embarrassment to the university and does not come close to Big Ten quality. I can’t believe that the golf team actually tees it up here. Paid $58 with a cart and it was a rip off for the quality. I am a 15 handicap and carded a 85 for the day.

Where’s the agriculture students
Overall worst conditions I have played on all year. Fairways worst I have ever played. Greens and bunkers well maintained. Track layout plain Jane

Cow Pasture
The course has gone downhill in the last ten years. Every green is picked with ball and shoe marks and are not uniform. Many different species of grass makes the line and speed inconsistent. The tee boxes are mediocre and the sand traps were replaced very poorly. The rangers don’t pay attention to any unfixed ball marks or poor etiquette. Their main concern is pushing golfers to finish under four hours. Nothing else matters to them. That means four golfers have 13.3 minutes per hole. Low handicap and scratch can do this. Mid and above can’t. One lost ball or hazard and they start pushing you. Good golf course management would have 14 minutes between starting times to allow play at 13.3 minutes a hole. But the current pro and the one before her don’t know much about managing a course. They’re all money so they cramp in the tee times 9 minutes apart and run it like a track meet. They want your money and they want you gone fast.

Pace of play an issue
On a very hot day the course was crowded. Our 3 some was behind a 2 some and we had to wait in them way too often. The ranger said 2 4 somes were ahead of them and that 2 some had some waiting too
The course was in good shape just some brown
out spots in some fairways
The greens ran well
Great Deal
Got a time for $24, joined a twosome who had the same deal and a single. Played at our pace, had no group behind us. Greens are in great shape, would have scored better if I could find the fairway. had a nice day.
We will be back
Played as. 3 some. Pace of play was fine. Course is in good shape. Including the bunkers which have been poor on some of the other NJ courses
Great value for the money
Very enjoyable day. Well managed. Relatively short course and very straight forward. Unfortunately the players do not do a great job fixing ball marks on greens. Nice practice area. Easy walking course.
Great conditions & pace for a public course
Greens are in great condition for the middle of the summer. Definitely quick, but well maintained and a consistent roll.
Plays relatively short from the tips for long hitters, but makes up for it with a wide variety of shapes from hole to hole. Greens are guarded by traps and have undulation that will challenge you on most approach shots. Not a lot of water to worry about but the treeline will force you to play angles well.
A little bit pricey compared to your typical public course but the conditions will meet your expectations at the higher price point. Pace of play is monitored closely by rangers and 4 hour rounds are very achievable on weekends.
