Great conditions, pace and staff
Rutgers Golf Course is by far and away the best public course in Middlesex County. As far as value, pace of play, friendliness and knowledge of staff, and course conditions, Rutgers stands out clearly. Tee time system is easy to use and professional staff is extremely helpful. The snack bar and on course beverage service could use an upgrade and that would be my only complaint albeit minor. I play 30+ rounds here per year. Very enjoyable.
staff
Nicest staff I have ever seen and I am 75 and have played at many golf courses. The foursome that I play with plays at Rutgers once a week.
great all around value
Course keeps strict pace of play. 4 hour round, for weekend public in nj. That's the best!
Short but challenging.
Great value!
Good course. Short but shotmaker course.
Greens were fast but true
Conditions were really good
Pace 4 hrs 20 minutes, good pace
Another great...
...day at Rutgers. Course is in great shape .The greens are smooth and quick. Finished in 3.5 hrs.
Just OK
Short course in decent condition.
Not worth the price they normally charge, but OK if you get a 'Hot Deal' or the like.
Staff wasn't very friendly.
College review
The golf course at Rutgers is a quaint look back at golf architecture too short for the modern game but with enough interest to make it fun. The wind was blowing 20+ which added another dimension to the round. If it wasn't you'd have wedge in hand to often. Conditions were very good with the bunkers the high point. Too many courses are not maintaining their sand bunkers. Not Rutgers- well done. Overall a fun day out.
Rutgers University Golf Course
What a great surprise this course was. Staff was very friendly, the driving range is beautiful, and the course is in excellent shape, with greens running true and smooth. I would definitely play it again if the opportunity arose. Also, another pleasant surprise was that there are rangers on the course that actually keep the pace of play moving. We finished on a Sunday morning in exactly 4 hours. Imagine that.
Perfect golf course
It's my first time to review golf course.
When I was in Rutgers golf, weather is perfect.
Green condition was nice.
College Town
The course is laid out on the campus of Ruckers University. The course itself is a great layout and golfer friendly. I think anybody playing golf at any level would enjoy this course. We will be back again .
Return to ol' reliable
Haven't played Rutgers for several years. I looked forward to this round and really enjoyed my return to this well maintained course. Using GolfNow booking application made for an enjoyable experience. We were given the senior discount at check-in. Will play this course again this fall .
Bummed Out
I played for Rutgers in the early 70`s and hadn`t been back since 1974. I thought with the school in the "Big 10" and The Rutgers Professional Golf Turf Management School this course would be in exceptional condition. WRONG!!! Greens were slow and bumpy. We had to play "winter rules" because the fairways were bad (many white lined areas) rough was spotty. bunkers inconsistent. If I was still playing for Rutgers i would be embarrassed to host any other college team on this course (let alone a "Big 10" school. It will be another 43 years before I go back
Great day
Staff was friendly checking was easy course was in excellent condition pace of play was under three and a half hours greens in excellent condition sand traps were soft and fluffy price very reasonable with cart
Nice course
Course was in good shape, pace of play was excellent and the staff was nothing but great highly recommended
Great NJ public course
They are serious about maintaining a quick pace of play here AND THAT IS A GOOD THING. Even though this place is usually packed and it takes an act of congress to get a morning weekend tee time, I've never had a round take more than 4 hours 15 minutes.
The layout is nothing spectacular but it's enough to keep your interest and is in good shape.
Course seems to have a good walking culture among the clientele and is an easy walk.
Price is reasonable, they didn't sting me too hard for being an out of state non-alumni on a weekend.
They also have snazzy port-a-potties with running sink water.
Great Staff
The course is an interesting layout with short and long holes. Greens were nice but fairly slow. Fairways were in good shape. The bag drop is across the street from the clubhouse and I accidentally left my clubs there. The staff was great and called me. They held them overnight until I could get them in the morning. They couldn't have been nicer.
Maintenance great, layout is a bit boring
Although it's my alma mater, was only my 2nd time playing this course. The course conditions were pretty good but the layout is kind of boring. Very minimal elevation changes. Not much water. The feel of a very mediocre county course. Still, I'd play it again because of the value at twilight and the maintenance.
