Charlotte Harbor National Golf Club
About
Charlotte Harbor National Golf Club (formerly known as Bobcat Trail Golf Club), also known simply as "the Cat," has been considered one of Sarasota County's best courses since it opened in 1998. Each hole on this lengthy par-71 layout offers a risk-reward opportunity. This thought-provoking course requires careful course management, proper club selection, and sharp short game skills. The large greens are fast and undulating and bunkers are strategically placed throughout. There are also several water hazards that come into play. Not only does each hole offer a unique challenge, they all offer beautiful scenery with a different eye-catching feature on each. Golfers will be sure to encounter some of the abundant wildlife that inhabits the golf course including foxes, gators, hawks and osprey. The club's staff claims that any of the 18 holes could be considered a signature hole.

Not bad
This course is suffering from the drought, but managing to be playable with reasonably maintained fairways and greens.
What is going on?
Played the course today, walked bag up to bag drop, no recognition from anyone at course, went in payed, came back out bag still in stand, putted balls on practice green and noticed how hard and bumpy the greens were (good indication of rest of course) came back to bag stand, still no recognition from staff, picked up bag put on cart, drove cart to driving range, horrible condition! It looked the the boxes have been in same place for weeks if not months, drove back to starter area, still no recognition from staff, 5 mins to tee time just decided to drive to first tee. Ground on tee boxes so hard couldn’t tee up ball, barely a blade of grass on tee boxes! Greens were in horrible shape! Cost was average for around here, this club is sub par in all respects except refreshments cart woman was pleasant.
Nice course &staff
Horses playing hard and fast greens are fast and true but bring a hammer to get it to you into the ground
Could have been better
Tee boxes were mostly patchy. The greens were bumpy and sandy. Fairways were good mostly. Staff was great.
Awful!!
All I can say is go play somewhere else. Terrible conditions
DO NOT PAY TO PLAY!
Again, DO NOT PAY TO PLAY!!!! The only way anyone should play this course right now is for free!
The clubhouse man was on the phone on arrival and didn’t even acknowledge that after. Range balls were rusty. Tee time was 2:04, I teed off at 2:42. They didn’t have enough carts and were sending pairings out as carts came in (at least they partially cleaned them). I asked if I could walk with a twosome, and was told to go ask the inside. They told me no walking is allowed to ensure pace of play is maintained. I was sent out alone and had to let the twosome behind me join on the 3rd hole (older couple and wife just started playing, not quick). The round took just under 4.5 hours, which was better than I was expecting...
As posted below, the course is DEAD!!!!! There was maybe 1 acceptable tee box and NO acceptable greens!! I did not have to repair a ball mark the entire round, to show how hard the greens are. I landed a 115yd approach in about a yard on the front and rolled about 29yd more off the back. I don’t know what the speed would be rated, but definitely higher than 12. I feel like it is probably comparable to Shinnecock Hills at the 2018 US Open, nobody not even the fans were happy with that!
I would say they need to fire the Head Groundskeeper and shut the course down and pray to the good lord that it recovers, but they are past that. They are going to have to do another complete renovation. Seriously the biggest waste of $40 (sad to say I wasted $40).
Nice layout in need of TLC
This is not an easy course, with bunkers galore and water, water everywhere. The course is in need of water, as it’s burned out with weeds everywhere and some tee boxes without grass. It is in need of care; hopefully the summer rains will bring it back, with reseeding and aeration. Time will tell.
Let it rain...
Dry conditions made some fairway shots difficult, but I love this course layout. Hope the conditions will be better next winter.
Course was very dry
It was difficult putting the tee in the ground because the tee boxes were so HARD and dry. Fairways were very dry and burned out and greens did not hold at all. They need rain and water desperately. Great course layout and staff was fine.
Poor Shape
Have played here several times in the past. I would say this is the worse I’ve seen the course. I know we haven’t had any rain of late but the tee boxes and fairways had very little if any turf on them. The greens were quick and in decent shape. Hopefully it will improve over the summer but we will not be going back.
Always good
Even though the rain has no fallen here, the course has stood up well to the drought in Florida. I cannot wait the see this course after the rains begin to fall.
The layout is awesome and their are plenty of tees from which to choose. The greens were fast and fair.
I cannot wait to go back to Charlotte Harbor to play again.
Stay away
Course in bad condition. I would like to know why the course was closed all summer. What the heck did they do. This was a nice course 2 yrs ago. Dont know if they changed management or what. Not worth the $60 am rate nor the $40 pm rate. Better course around. Like the last post said. $10,000 membership course. WOW. I would be very upset. I would use other words but it wouldn't let me.
Poor conditions
Deeply disappointed in the course conditions. Some tee boxes had little to no grass. The fairways were hard and bare. No way this is a $10,000 a year membership course. By far the worse conditions of any course I have played in the area.
