Asheville Municipal Golf Course

I love that they are investing in a lot into this course. This is one of my favorite courses to play at being a local. The back 9 is absolutely beautiful/challenging and you can’t beat that 18th hole view!

Absolutely the worst course in NC. Poorly managed and poorly kept. Do not waste your money playing at this sorry excuse of a golf course.

It’s hard dinging a course too much given the fact it is in repair. They are working very hard to bring the course back. Unfortunately, I was unaware of how bad it had become. I’ve played Muni quite a bit over the years, but had not played there in the last 18 months. When I played there previously it was never a 5*, but generally in decent shape. This time, you could tell it had fallen into disrepair. Again, kudos to them for the work they are putting in to it. However, at this time, two greens are shut down and temporary holes have been placed in the fairways areas—I did not know this before playing. Not even from the shop when I checked in. Also, the remainder of the greens had been “punched” and were carpet like and sandy. Again, no warning from them via GolfNow or at check in.

3* may be a little generous, but I’d wait till spring to play it again. I don’t recommend it in its current condition. Give it 6 months.

The only problem I have with the course is that if I wanna go out in the morning and play a round by myself, I can’t I have to buy two spots in order to play and then again they won’t let you play as a single which I think is crap. So if you wanna play alone you can’t which I think they can make exceptions.

Very happy they’re bringing this Historic Donald Ross course back to life. The greens are firm and true. Wider approaches into the greens are a pleasure. New grass all over the course; tees, fairways, greens. Looks fantastic. I’ll be back!

The course is in rough shape lacking grass in fairways, needing pruning of overgrown trees and weeds. For a Ross course this is woeful and one wonders why the city doesn’t invest in it. Contrast to the excellent Ross muni in Wilmington. Course needs to be shut down and upgraded. Reminds one of courses that went to seed during the recession and closed. Greens were OK but don’t waste your money. The back nine layout isn’t bad but if you’re on vacation play Omni Grove on a GN deal it’s worth it. This was depressing and the carts jolt on startup with cart paths all uneven or broken up.

For time wise it would be better to team players with a cart with other players with a cart. I was teamed with a golfer with a push cart. It took a lot longer waiting for him to walk cart.

Maybe I give Muni such a good rating already because its poor condition less than 1 year ago

8 montha into a 2 year revitalization. Can't wait to see the final results!

Definitely better than it was 2 months ago, I still think price is too much for out of towners that want to play here.more often like they use to.

Had a great time at Muni today. The course is continuing to get better and better. The high grass areas are now a true hazard, because the grass has finally come in. The greens are running well in the fairways are in great shape. Looking forward to tournament golf there next week.

Major changes are taking place. They have already made a huge difference and they have just started. Going to be great in a couple years.

As a part-time NC resident. I make it to this course several times between Jun and Nov each year. The efforts made by the new management company are obvious on the course. The greens, although a bit on the slow side, are all lush and fairly true. All of the bunkers appeared to be well-groomed. With a few significant exceptions, the fairways have much more grass than last fall and the newly-sodded 16th fairway is a fantastic improvement. Heck, 16 is an all new hole with a pristine green and reimagined bunkers. Tee boxes and cartpaths still could use some work on many holes and some more tree work is needed to open up some tee shots, but there’s evidence everywhere of movement in the right direction. If you book on GolfNow and pay in advance, don’t be surprised when they charge you a $1 facility fee at check-in that they tell you goes directly towards course improvements.

Greens have been redone and are much better shape than the rest of the course. The fairways are playable but the rough is a mixture of weeds and grass. Course has a fun layout. Overall had a great time.

I have been playing at Muni for about 5 years now and the new management company has made tremendous improvements in just the last 6 months. The greens roll really true and are getting better by the week. Love the fact that they are returning some of the course features to Donald Ross’s original design. New tee boxes, better fairways are also obvious improvements. The staff and the regulars are a pleasure to be around.

Lots of work has gone into rehabbing this course and it's paying off. Greens were in great shape, rolled true and with a nice, quicker pace than most other courses in the area. Bunkers are greatly improved. Many tees have been redone, flattened and sodden. Holes on the back that used to be sparse turf now have large areas of new sod that's growing in nicely.

Have been playing this course for a long time and have never thought it should be more than 25 dollars. Come back home to play with my dad and rates have gone up to 58 dollars for non residents, even though we live in the county. Hole 17 is closed for maintenance but you’re still paying for 18 holes. Every hole should be closed for maintenance considering every fairway looks like my back yard. Greens were actually the best part about the course and were below average at best. It’s really sad the city of Asheville can’t pay to even keep the course in playable shape
