About
Nestled at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Toiyabe Golf Club (formerly known as Thunder Canyon Country Club and Lightning "W" Ranch Golf Course.) has a picturesque landscape of shimmering lakes, meandering streams, and towering pines. This course has a traditional layout that features contoured fairways and fast, generous greens. There are nearly 50 bunkers strategically placed throughout and water comes into play on 14 holes. Elevated tees provide spectacular views of Mt. Rose and Slide Mountain. The golf course is challenging but still player-friendly with seven sets of tees. In addition to the course, Toiyabe Golf Club also offers practice facilities that include chipping and sand practice areas along with an expansive putting green.

Great course slow play
This is an absolute beautiful course great views Fairway was in great shape and the greens are really tough, but we were on a six hour pace because they started a tournament in front of us and they weren’t pushing them along. Finally we got done a little over five hours because the tournament had ended.
What a great place to play, scenic views everywhere, greens are fantastic
The Rough
Staff was great, course was good, but we would like to see you do something about the rough. The pros have a first cut which is manageable(approximately 3-5ft of it on each side of the fairway) then the heavy stuff. We wish you would put in a first cut on each side. Your rough is very thick, can be really tough at times and it slows down play. Thanks for listening!!
Great Layout and Value but a +5 Hr Round
I had a 1:35 tee time but they had a tournament in the morning that “took longer than expected” and therefore our round took over 5 hours. We were waiting on every hole which sucked. Besides that though, I really enjoyed the course and the layout including trees, some slight elevation changes, and water views. The back 9 is much more scenic than the front. It’s a great value compared to other public Tahoe courses.
Played Bad
The course is in good shape. The greens were faster than I expected. I got there kind of late, didn't get to putt as much as usual and it showed in my game. I missed a few quick putts on the putting green, then went out and missed a lot more on the course. It was a little windy not bad for the afternoon in Washoe Valley. Still a nice course and a local favorite, I just played bad.

Surprisingly nice
The course is a hidden gem; some long holes, challenging greens, very well manicured and cared for, and scenery is awesome. Due to the sketchy weather, we were almost alone on the course (Tues afternoon), which allowed our pace of play to whatever we wanted.
Fun and Challenging Course
Had a great time playing Toiyabe Golf Club. Greens were fast which made it challenging but overall an excellent course. Highly recommend

Staff was great, greens we thought need a little more time but ok, fairways n around the greens pretty wet/muddy in some ares but ok. Just needs a little more time.
Fun course, some challenges, played on a Wednesday so not much traffic no wind! Greens roll well faster than what I'm used to.
The staff is always professional and friendly. The course was in great shape. Looking forward to our next round.
Great shape
No wind. Course is in great shape for early spring. Wish everyone would sand their divots. I emptied 2 sand bottles taking care of the course when a bunch of lazy chumps can't bother.
