Oak Hollow Golf Course
About
Oak Hollow Golf Course is one of two municipally owned golf courses in High Point, N.C. This Pete Dye design is the newer and more popular of the two. The layout features several Dye signatures including pot bunkers and railroad ties but it's the small, undulating greens that are the most recognizable Dye trademark. The golf course has an interesting mix of holes, including several risk-reward opportunities. It's a course that will make you think, rewarding strategy and accuracy over might. The signature hole is the par-4 sixth. This 420-yard hole wraps around a lake with an island tee at the tips that will test the brave. Oak Hollow's toughest hole, though, is the 437-yard 11th, also a par 4. You'll need a perfectly placed tee shot and then after you're met with a triple-tiered green that sits along the water's edge.

Tough Course
Course is not very long but challenging with very narrow fairways.
Mismanagement is the Issue
We have played this course many times over the years strictly for the sake of convenience. We are local and have a group that tries to get out about 2 times a week in warmer months and as often as possible in colder months. At this point, we will forego golf before playing at Oak Hollow and recommend to any of our groups and friends to do the same. 5 hour rounds are the rule and overbooking is common. No need to get into the details of this most recent round, but suffice to say we were shocked by the lack of courtesy and honesty. Until management changes, I cannot see anything changing. My suggestion.... I would consider Blair Park, go to the range, or visit Putt Putt where you are respected as a customer.
muddy conditions, bumpy greens, friendly staff, slow play, Golf Now overbooked course
Always do the good news first.
Staff is always friendly.
Great value, with my $10 Golf Now certificate bringing 18 hole green fee to $12.
I arrived at 12:00 p.m. for my 12:08 p.m. tee time and was told by pro shop staff that the course was overbooked with Golf Now tee times.
Warmed up on putting green. Asked ranger if I could tee off since a foursome was down the fairway approaching the green. He said no. I had to wait for a group. **NOTE: no one else showed from the 12:08 p.m. Golf Now tee time.
Finally, three golfers showed up from a later tee time. We teed off at approximately 12:30 p.m., one half hour past my original time! I have played at Oak Hollow for over 20 years and never had this occur!
The golfers I was with were seldom in the fairway during the round. I was usually in the fairway and played ready golf. They were slower players.
Then, when we finished the 17th green and started to head to the 18th tee, the ranger told us NOT to play the 18th hole. It was 5:00 p.m. and close to darkness.
That didn't go over well with me. I mentioned this when returning the cart.
I realize that the Oak Hollow staff was doing their best with a booked course. Golf Now needs to know that somehow their system overbooked the tee times.
I am a loyal Golf Now customer and will continue to be.
Course conditions were fair, with slow and bumpy greens.
Scenery on Oak Hollow is outstanding, especially holes 4-6!
Thank you.
Great Course
I enjoy playing this course, it is really fun and challenging. Some greens had a few bad spots but other than that the course was in good shape.
Improved conditions, beautiful course, friendly staff
I played Oak Hollow on a Golf Now Hot Deals tee time for $15, a great value.
Course conditions had improved since I was there last month.
The greens were at their smoothest for the year, rolling consistently.
Rick checked me in. He is always helpful, friendly, and professional.
The entire staff at Oak Hollow, including Angie and her associates at the grill, are terrific!
Oak Hollow is the ONLY Pete Dye municipal course design in North Carolina. The bunkers, railroad ties, greens, and slopes throughout the course carry his signature.
I consider Oak Hollow to be a favorite local course and highly recommend this layout.
Classic beauty with lots of views
Oak Hollow combines classic traditional layout with challenging dog legs and plenty of beautiful scenery.
Fun course
Great course. Lots of fun and has some challenges. The staff was very friendly. Some of the pins were difficult on a weird down slope but it was a lot of fun overall.
Did he really say that?
Let me preference with I shot a 39 (left after 9 holes, just too slow) - the round or my game was not the issue. Course itself is okay. Not terrible and not great. A few of the holes along the water are just childish but come to expect that from Pete Dye. It’s like using the land would be insane, so let’s make 90 degree dog legs that simply seem out of place with rest of the course. Just odd. But I can live with that. What was just odder than normal for the place that put the O in Odd (High Point NC) was the confusion that seemingly hit the two staff members that tried to check us in. I used GolfNow to book the tee time. When we got there he didn’t have me and couldn’t find me on the tee sheet, so I had to pull up the receipt and show him. You would of thought they were trying to solve quantum physics. Right or wrong they made use feel like it was our fault for booking with GolfNow. I walked outside and my golf mate asked me was it GolfNow I said, “Nope just High Point.” To which the mustached hombre in the orange shirt says, “I wouldn’t come back”. I didn’t acknowledge but took note. I wonder, does anyone care that the we paid to play? I didn’t make the rules with GolfNow, Oak Hollow did. If you don’t want us there, don’t worry we won’t come back. And folks, there are at least 10 other courses in GSO area, with better layout, friendly staff, and better pace of play. Not worth the hassle of dealing with staff that don’t want you there.
Nice city course
Oak Hollow is a nice city owned course. It is always in good shape and can be very challenging. I definitely recommend.
