Avoid “Bob” the starter

Ran late for tee time and was “greeted” by Bob who immediately began yelling at my playing partner and I about having missed our tee time (which we were dead on the minute). Bob was combative argumentative and unprofessional. After checking in Bob again came up to me and began to threaten to take away my tee time and that “I better hurry up and catch the rest of my group or else”

This was in front of about 20 other people waiting to play.

After my round I requested to ask to whoever might be in charge so I could make them aware of Bob. The reaction I got let me know that this was not a first for Bob. The guy made several excuses like “we were busy” and “he’s an old guy.” Neither of these are reasons for a starter to attack someone trying to play some golf.

I’ve played this course many times and have liked going back because of how relaxed it is there. After this I will not return. Hopefully Bob is fitted from his volunteer position because he can’t handle it.

Hope they turn things around...

I used to love going to monroe country club. Last time I went no one mentioned the greens are airified, nor did they mention the whole back 9 is closed. No notes in the carts and starter said nothing to any of my 4 some until we get to 9 and realize we cant play 10-18. Then a younger newer employee behind the counter accosted several of us for not having a mask on to check in while he himself didnt have a mask on. No need to be a hypocrite in times like these. The layout is great and the superintendent does a great job, but I think its time to let monroe work out their issues before I go back.

Good Option

If your expectation is set on any PGA super level course then you will not like this course. If you expect a local course with more to offer then this is a great place to play. Very laid back staff and course is in great condition. It has non-meme we pricing that is well within any range you will find locally on a comparable course. Considering member option after today just to be more involved.

Donald Ross front 9, like back 9 more.

Some greens on the front seem small, hole 1 has blind tee shot, hole 8 has blind second shot. I like back 9 more than front. Range is too far away. Condition of greens, fairways and cart path are good.

Great Economic Course

Greens had been aerated, but still not bad. Course is in great condition and green fees are the cheapest in the area.

Aerated early!

They weren't supposed to aerate until after the holiday weekend.

Nice layout

Very welcoming open style, up and backs. Tee boxes and fairways in really good shape. Greens were very fast and true.

Some courses want to smoosh 1000 people on a golf course, which can lead to less fun and more 'keep it moving'..this wasn't that way at all and it really, really added to the fun....so much more relaxed

I will definitely be back!!

Hidden Gem

Monroe’s municipal course - Monroe CC

Is a little gem and in great condition. Yes the 2020 rainy Spring has helped but the staff is working hard to keep it in great shape. The greens are a little smaller than most courses which adds difficulty to approach Shots but the greens putt very true If you can hold the green.

Good golf course!

Monroe Country Club is usually a good course and a fun time! The pace of play is sometimes slow and they do on occasion allow certain groups to play in five players; which should not be allowed.

Outstanding conditions

I arrived expecting the course to be in fairly good shape. What shocked me was just how good it was and the obvious care taken by the staff. The entire course, from tips to greens, was immaculate and well maintained. Tee boxes were well-seeded, bunkers were well groomed, and the greens were cut with precision. Fast, but beautifully maintained. I am almost reticent to write this review because I don’t want to draw more golfers to this gem!

Your customer

I don’t appreciate being told by other golfers I should not have been on #3 I understand stand that carts weren’t supposed to be on that fairway butt there was a golfer on that same fairway standing by his cart. He hit his ball from #4 onto #3 fairway. He watched as the man yelled at me to get my cart off the fairway. I believe he said something to me because I’m a black man. My uncle works there and has for years. I feel you may need to educate some of your course members.

Golf pro

The golf pro was very rude. He had a clinic on the course and we were told we could go through. When we attempted to go through, he came over and started yelling at us, the customers. We were unable to finish our round. We simply explained had we should have been informed of the clinic on the course. We could have started on the back. The course was not crowded, playing through or playing on the back would not have held up the course. The other staff and starter were very professional and extremely helpful.
