Byrd at Sea Trail Golf Resort and Convention Center
About
The Willard Byrd course at Sea Trail Plantation is one of three courses on the property, which covers 2,000 acres of creeks and wooded lots. It's in Sunset Beach, N.C., once named the top coastal destination in the U.S. by Money magazine, and in 2003, Golf Week named Sea Trail in America's best residential courses of distinction.
All three courses, by Dan Maples, Rees Jones and Willard Byrd got 4-star ratings from Golf Digest. The Byrd course is built around several, man-made lakes, from 14-20 acres and features nicely undulating greens and Byrd's trademark decorative sand and waste bunkers, constrictive treelines and greenside bunkers.
The Byrd course opened in the fall of 1990 to good reviews. No. 18 finishes between two ponds at the clubhouse. The course covers 6,750 from the blue tees with a slope rating of 128 slope. Watch for No. 2, a 174-yard par-3 over water, and No. 3, a long par-5, a dogleg right with water on the left.

Good day at Seat Trails
We found this course to be user friendly for the ladies in our foursome. Fairways and greens were good and seeing nature including 4 Gators made it even better!
One of our ladies shots ended up 6 feet from a sun soaking Gator.....Made for a great picture
Cool day....hot price.
Got a great deal here on a very nice course. Conditions were good for this time of year. Nice variety of holes but found white tee boxes were a bit long for us on some holes,no problem we just moved up to the gold. Ladies liked the red tees. Great pace of play, nice fairways and good greens. Traps need a bit of work. Check in lady was grouchy but cart guy explained course basics. Play this one.
Sea Trails - Byrd course
we found the course in great shape for this time of year. the weather was cool but perfect overall. I was glad we found this on the GolfNow network.
Needs some work
Tee offs were very poor. Hadn't been cut in a month. Sand traps had very little sand and looked like they had not Ben maintained in months. Greens rolled fast and true. Overall an OK day.
Player Friendly - But a Good Challenge
A course for players of all levels, Good conditions.
Consistent greens. Friendly, unrushed atmosphere. Great pace. Look forward to a return soon.
Enjoyable round and nice layout
Very nice layout and challenging tee boxes for varied skill levels. Will play it again. Excellent value through Golf Now.
Beautiful Layout
Course was in nice condition with the exception of the sand traps which had poor quality sand and just dirt in many of them.
Fun
Good course to play even when it is cart path only. Will play it again. Nice greens green fairways.
enjoyed it!
Great golf for middle of January. Greens were terrific fairways and layout good. Got a reduced rate booking thru golf now. Would def play again
Sea Trail - Byrd
My first time playing the Byrd course. Sea Trail has 3 courses; I have previously played the Maples. I am 62 years old, and play to about a 14 handicap. Played the white tees, which were about 6,150 yards. As a short hitter in the winter months, with soft (but not wet) fairways, this is about max distance for me. Course layout is good with a mix of doglegs, several par 4's between 375 and 390, and some par-5's yielding birdie opportunities. The par3 holes are good as well, with several that play over the corners of lakes. This is a solid, if not spectacular course. I would play it again as the rack rate in January is reasonable.
BAD START TO OUR TRIP
My wife and I were vacationing in MB for the month and this was our first round. Having not played for a few months, we found the course played a bit tough because of the tightness of the holes as a lot of them were tree lined. However, the real bad part was the sewage smell around the 13-15th holes. On top of that, the flies were all over us and they bite. We tried playing these holes but gave us and just drove through until the smell was gone and the flies tolerable. I think the staff should have said something before we even teed off and maybe gave us an option of playing one of the other courses. Not a course I would rush back to play.
Nice layiut and challenging holes.
Holes provide many challenges, particularly with green side bunkers and plan placements. Played cart path only and greens were good and fairways wet. Would play again.
Sea trail Byrd course
Course was nice
Greens much to slow
Fairways good
Great course for the price
Nice quiet round on a cool day
The morning was somewhat cool as we set out but it progressively got warmer during the day. It was pretty quiet at the course so we could complete our round in 3h15. We like the layout of the course and it offers some challenges, including a few forced carries that are manageable. Conditions were excellent for this time of the year. Crows stole part of our lunch while we were putting on #11, so keep an eye on those guys as well as the fox squirrels!
