You will have to share a cart with a stranger
I’ve played twice. Both times as a threesome. First time was on a Saturday afternoon. Got two carts to split.
Second time on a Friday afternoon, they “don’t have the carts” to give to a single rider. Don’t give this course a dime until management gets that straightened out. Ridiculous
Good layout, horrible pace of play on a Friday afternoon
Played a threesome with some friends on a recent Friday afternoon and we were held up at every tee box by 1-3 groups ahead of us — a twosome, a threesome, a fivesome. There was no Marshall or anyone at the pro shop encouraging faster pace and the group sizing made no sense. Really frustrating experience overall, and we weren’t able to finish 18 because we were in full darkness by hole 16, despite our tee time being 4 hours before sunset. The course itself pretty well maintained and the layout is fun, though it is being surrounded by a busy 4 lane road on all sides. I won’t be back here unfortunately.
Crowded!
Slow pace of play because the tee time intervals are only 7 minutes apart. Par 3's can get backed up to 3 groups at the tee box.
challenging greens
This course has small greens that require a shot at the front or center to hold it. Most greens are domed making it difficult to stay on top. The fairways are relatively generous and the bunkers are definitely placed to challenge around the greens. The greens were in decent condition, however the golfers in the area are not the best at repairing their ball marks. The bunkers look nice but are generally rock hard (not good). Overall a nice course at a decent price.
Finished the round in less than 5 hours!
I was not expecting to finish before sunset since I experienced several delays in the last few rounds but this time, the 2 groups in front were little bit slow but still my group was able to finish 7:40pm (started at 3:00pm).
The course is always fun to play. The undulation throughout the course makes the play fun and difficult at the same time. Will play again! Hoping to have the same experience with the pace of play.
Great Day
Santa Anita had perfect weather, nice and cool. play was moving right along. no issues.
A good public course
The only thing wrong with the pace of play that day was the allowed a group of 5 play together. In addition, there were a couple of them that were definitely beginners and slowing the pace pretty severely. The avg pace is about 4.5hr round. This took 6.
Great open track
Course was in amazing shape considering it's been a bit warm in So. Cal.
I do have one very big ask....
I you allow 5somes, make it a rule that all 5 must ride a cart. I'm not against 5some's, but having 5 players walk in all different directions, does slow the pace waaaaay down. Give it a try and experiment with that rule for a couple of weeks.
Need to speed up play
Need a marsh. Singles need to join with a group.
One ball should be hit from the tee box unless hitting a provisional ball, not three tee shots.
Pace
If you have 6 hours to play 18 holes then this is the course for you. If you’re looking to finish in 4-4:30 hours I would not recommend the course. There was no Marshall to keep the course moving at a steady pace.. it’s also a group’s responsibility to know when to pick and move on to the next hole..This could have been the reason why my experience at this course took 6hrs.. The courses fairways and green very well maintained..
