Slowest 18 hole in California
Look, I like the layout of the course. It’s interesting, there are some features you don’t see in many municipal like elevated greens and undulating fairways.
That’s where the magic ends, though. I’ve played this course maybe a half dozen times, only finishing once due to how LONG it takes just to play 18 holes. And yeah, you might think this is for fridays or the weekend.
ITS NOT. I’m here on a random wednesday, it is currently 3PM, and there are 8 carts all queuing and waiting for. the par 3, 12th hole. ITS WEDNESDAY.
Never again will I waste my hard earned money to play a track where it is the wild west. There is no care for the customer, and the 7 minute tee time increments do not help. This is just negligence and greed at its finest. BEWARE.
If you love slow playing.
Beautiful course. Better than good conditions. Well maintained greens. Awesome staff. But annoying slow pace. Can’t see myself playing there again unless it’s at dawn. Be ready to burn your entire day for 18.
Excellent conditions
The course was in great shape. We teed off at 9:49am on a Sunday and even though we teed off 10 minutes late the pace of play was excellent. We finished in 4hrs and 25 minutes. The greens were in great shape as well. Loved the course, it’s very forgiving and hardly any out of bounds. Will definitely play it again.
Always look forward to playing here
Santa Anita is one of my favorite places to play golf. I like the course layout and feel that it is fair to players if played smartly. It is a relatively flat course although a couple of fairways have undulations and there are a couple of elevated greens. The greens and fairways were in pretty good shape but the bunkers could use some attention.
There are many trees on the course but the fairways are wide enough that most never are a concern, for my game.
It is a popular place to play so the pace of play can be a little slow, especially. On the par 3's.
Easy layout for beginners..
Easy course to play.. open fairways and pretty straight forward greens.. the pace of play was slow and but for the price it was worth it..
Fun Muni in Good Condition… but
Fun course that’s not too long and in pretty good condition. However, pace of play was really bad and they are in need of a Marshal. Food and drinks are price gouged but that’s the norm these days. I’d still recommend if you’re looking for a decent priced muni round and have 5 hours of free time.
Pace was horrible
I’ve played at Santa Anita many times over the years. The staff is friendly and the course is flat, well manicured and easy to walk. This is the second time I’ve played there in 6 months and both times the round took SIX HOURS. When I played this past Sunday I had a 10:31 tee time. We teed off at 11 after they called 5 or so groups under the same name. Oh and did I mention that the group ahead of us was a five some? Nice course, nice staff but they obviously don’t care that about pace of play.
