Poor Greens
Historically, always had good greens. New owner, bad greens. Different type of grass has grown onto the greens and the ball bounces and goes all over the place. You’re better off on temp greens.
five stars
im glad i ignored the the bad reviews and played here.
professional n friendly staff, great layout n pace of play was just right.
no complaints.i had a good time
5 stars for Santa Anita Golf Course
Played fast but greens are horrible
They lost most of their greens to Kikuya Grass. They are also very slow.
But we played in less than 3.5 hours.
5 1/2 hour round on a Monday???
To slow of play. 10 minute wait on each hole sucked!
Poor management of tee times and check in’s
Was told the tee times were running on time and that was completely not the case. My tee time was for 10:17 and didn’t get off the first tee until 10:45 and freaking weekday. The pace of play was a joke. It took 5 1/2 hours to get in a weekday round. I never saw a marshal or anyone out there speeding up the pace of the groups.
Course was in good condition but the very slow pace of play means I won't be returning here.
Painfully Slow
I started my round 25 minutes late because they ran out of carts. After 3 hours and 9 holes, I decided my patience point had been reached so I never finished 18 holes. I know this was a holiday but I will not give this course another chance.
all day round
Three hours to play front nine. 75% of golfers were walking. Had a 2 group wait at every hole. If you have 6-61/2 hours for a round of golf, this is a excellent course. The course is in great condition.
Scotland grey day at Santa Anita.
I haven't played Santa Anita in awhile despite being a local. I actually haven't played much golf in general over the past 6 months. I tend to put my clubs in time out every few years and take a breather. On a whim I decided to run up to Santa Anita. I found a great twilight time so I went for it. I didn't think I'd get in 18 before dark, but I went anyway.
The weather was cool and grey like a Scottish day. Just how I like it when I play golf. And in SoCal. that type weather usually keeps people away. Sure enough, the course was really open. I think I played about 22 holes in total. Shot an 81 which I was pleased with considering how long I've been away from the game.
I learned that the course is under new management. It looks like the clubhouse and out buildings have been painted. The pro shop is now stocked. (It wasn't for many years) The staff was very friendly. They didn't see my golf now reservation but I gave em my confirmation # and they were ok about it.
I've always liked SantaAnita. SA is a classic So Cal course going back to the 30's right near SA racetrack. There is no real elevation changes, but the course is very rolling with elevated greens. IT's a good course. There is brown out there, but not in the important areas. The greens were slow but in good shape.
Overall it was a good day. Love that Scottish weather.
Nice place to play.
From the reviews was skeptical about pace of play. But I played Sunday and at just a little over 4hrs not bad. There where a few five somes but not bad. A lot of walkers out there so maybe Saturday’s might be a little more busy. I see it opened up after 12:00 pm. No brew cart. Only downside.
Great value for the money
The pace was very slow. I have a group of three some in front of me, and the guy teaching a woman. She took 2 or 3 shots every times.
Reliable Course but Conditions Needs Work
This is a muni track so you can't have high expectations. I was just happy it was easy to get a weekend tee time and the pace of play was average but moved reasonably well. Pros: Coffee shop is nice, decent menu and reasonable prices. Fees very reasonable for weekend play with cart. CONS: Greens extremely slow and shaggy, fairway and in play areas can be patchy producing poor lies, there's hard pan dirt where there should be grass in many of the fairway swails and gullies, sand traps are rarely if ever maintained or raked. If you keep it in play this course is still fun as the fairways present challenges due to their contours and hilling.
Pretty Good Value
While the fairways could be in much better shape, the course holds up for a muni. Greens were in good condition and rolled pretty true - while the pace of play was very good for a Sunday afternoon. Tee boxes were a little banged up, and the patrons don't seem to fix their divots/ball marks - but what it is what it is.
