4 hour round, course in great shape
Very happy with the experience playing Santa Anita. We played in 4 hours almost to the minute. Greens were firm and fast and putts rolled true. Fairways were well grassed with only a few bald spots. Bunkers were fluffy allowing legitimate bunker “explosion” shots. Staff was helpful and friendly.
My only complaint is that the course now charges a $5 deposit on the cart key. They willingly refund it at the end of the round, IF you know about it. They don’t do a good job of telling you about it up front. They don’t try to hide it, but old timers like me never realized they charged me the deposit. Fortunately our playing partners alerted us so we could get our deposit back.
Interesting fairways
The giant up and down hills in the middle of many fairways on this course make you think they must be burring some old trains or elephants under those fairways. It’s fun for those golfers like to play out of uneven lays.
Hello, thank you for taking the time to review Santa Anita Golf course. We are sorry to see that your overall experience was anything short of 5 stars. Your comments are by no means the standard we strive to achieve, but we hope you'll give us another try in the near future.
My Favorite Course
I love playing Santa Anita. Very close to my home, terrific and friendly Staff makes you feel at home. The course is very nicely layed-out with a nice variety of fairly easy holes to pretty difficult ones (at least for me). It will always be my first choice as to where to play.
There is only one down-side and that is the often encountered slow pace of play. Two factors contribute to the slow play: 1) The fact that because it is an LA County Course, Five-somes are allowed. 2) Players who walk the course instead of riding. Invariably we will come up to a tee box, and find a group of walkers just sitting on the bench, with nobody on the green or even within their driving range ahead of them. It is as if they are resting.
If something could be done about the pace of play, Santa Anita would be perfect! But in all fairness, all LA County Courses have that exact same problem.
Bottom line is that I will continue playing at Santa Anita on a regular basis because there are so many more positives that negatives about it.
Fix the greens please!
These have got to be some of the slowest greens in Southern California. The stimp on these greens can't be higher than a 5. So slow! If they can fix these greens to a normal speed this would be a great place to play.
Hi, Jeffrey. We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass on your feedback in regards to the speed of the greens to the teams in charge so they can work to make changes. Thanks for visiting Santa Anita Golf Course. We hope you'll give us another try in the future.

Definitely worth it!
Was able to capitalize on a discounted rate and truly enjoyed my entire day out here. The Mountain View’s were amazing and the course was in very good shape, specifically the greens. Pro Shop staff are always great and accommodating.

Much Better than Expected
Jordan checked us in and was very friendly and informative. Later on the course Steve drove out to introduce himself and ask the 5some in front of our 3some to step it up. The wait had been minimal up to that point, on the busiest day of the year. After that we never saw another person. Had a great time! We loved the layout; the greens were fast and in great shape and could see clear evidence of improvements in progress. All workers were more than accommodating and shut down their machines as we approached. We loved our experience and will certainly be back!!
Course is in good shape and the greens are a tad sandy and slow but rolling fine. The course could use a little more water but otherwise fun to play. Pace was right around 4 hours so that was great.
Santa Anita
Great conditions at the time. Played mid morning on a Monday and finished in 3.5 hrs.
Poor conditions and horrible pace of play
A 5 hour and 45 min round - horrible! And even after complaining to the starter, all he could say is that they are busy. They never thought to have a marhall go out and monitor or consider spreading out the tee times a little bit. The greens were like the fairways, like crabgrass - nothing was consistent and un- fixed divots littered the green. Bunkers were not raked and bare spots all over the fairways. A great drive is rewarded with hard pan. If you don’t mind those conditions then this place is perfect for you!
An interesting course
It was my first time playing this course. For being in the middle of a city, it had more hills than expects. Then I learned the hills were train cars that had been buried several decades ago.
Thank you for your review, RhoPage. We will pass along your positive experience to our team at Santa Anita Golf Course. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
