Santa Anita Golf Course

Three hours to play front nine. 75% of golfers were walking. Had a 2 group wait at every hole. If you have 6-61/2 hours for a round of golf, this is a excellent course.The course is in great condition.

I haven't played Santa Anita in awhile despite being a local. I actually haven't played much golf in general over the past 6 months. I tend to put my clubs in time out every few years and take a breather. On a whim I decided to run up to Santa Anita. I found a great twilight time so I went for it. I didn't think I'd get in 18 before dark, but I went anyway.

The weather was cool and grey like a Scottish day. Just how I like it when I play golf. And in SoCal. that type weather usually keeps people away. Sure enough, the course was really open. I think I played about 22 holes in total. Shot an 81 which I was pleased with considering how long I've been away from the game.

I learned that the course is under new management. It looks like the clubhouse and out buildings have been painted. The pro shop is now stocked. (It wasn't for many years) The staff was very friendly. They didn't see my golf now reservation but I gave em my confirmation # and they were ok about it.

I've always liked SantaAnita. SA is a classic So Cal course going back to the 30's right near SA racetrack. There is no real elevation changes, but the course is very rolling with elevated greens. IT's a good course. There is brown out there, but not in the important areas. The greens were slow but in good shape.

Overall it was a good day. Love that Scottish weather.

From the reviews was skeptical about pace of play. But I played Sunday and at just a little over 4hrs not bad. There where a few five somes but not bad. A lot of walkers out there so maybe Saturday’s might be a little more busy. I see it opened up after 12:00 pm. No brew cart. Only downside.

The pace was very slow. I have a group of three some in front of me, and the guy teaching a woman. She took 2 or 3 shots every times.

This is a muni track so you can't have high expectations. I was just happy it was easy to get a weekend tee time and the pace of play was average but moved reasonably well. Pros: Coffee shop is nice, decent menu and reasonable prices. Fees very reasonable for weekend play with cart. CONS: Greens extremely slow and shaggy, fairway and in play areas can be patchy producing poor lies, there's hard pan dirt where there should be grass in many of the fairway swails and gullies, sand traps are rarely if ever maintained or raked. If you keep it in play this course is still fun as the fairways present challenges due to their contours and hilling.

While the fairways could be in much better shape, the course holds up for a muni. Greens were in good condition and rolled pretty true - while the pace of play was very good for a Sunday afternoon. Tee boxes were a little banged up, and the patrons don't seem to fix their divots/ball marks - but what it is what it is.

I arrived at check in dest at 2:25 to check in for my tee time 2:42. A guy (his name is Davis) said "you can't go out until 3 PM because we had kid's tournment".

I said "oh my good, what's is going on??? this is not right".

He said, acutually yelled at me "what did I do???""

I was stunned and shocked.

My friend standing next to me was so upset (his name is terry) said to him "we did not mean that you did something wrong but you can't talk like that" He almost got into a fight with davis. And we said we wanted to talk to the maneger.

The guy working at check in dest (Davis again) said that "here is her business card you can call her"

We pick up the business card and tried to call the manager (her name is Loura I believe) but she didn't pick up the phone. Luckly She just stepped in the office with name badge so that I know that she was the maneger and could talk to her. And the guy (Davis) changed his attitude in front of manager.

This is not end of it...He said there was no reservation under my name at 2:42 from golf now. I had to show him the confrimation email on my phone.

We had to wait until all the kid's tournemnt team done and could go out arond 4 PM and played 9 holes...

I know the golf now is one of the best and reliable golf reservation site and I've been a customer for years.

Hoperly this will get to the managiment step and something like this will never happen again.

had a tee time for 10:30am but didn't tee off Until 10:45am do to 2 Groups of 4 In front of us hitting 2 balls but overall had a great time

Course caters to golfers who don’t exercise course etiquette nor understand ready golf. Walkers and riders side-by-side who have no clue about pace of the game. Fivesomes, just unacceptable especially when some are walking and others riding!

The course presents some great challenges on nearly all approach shots in the small, tightly shaped and well protected greens.

Nearly all greens were elevated which penalized inaccurate shots.

While not the longest course, this was a true test of your all round skills and certainly a course that I will visit again soon.

The greenest course I have seen in some time. Overall conditioning was pretty good. The greens were tough with a lot of break and relatively small. Don't expect to improve your GIR percentage. Otherwise, a very enjoyable day out.

I like the course but the pace us always slow. No marshals to police the course. A cart girl would make it more enjoyable.

Decent course for the price, Only complaint is that there was no Marshall to help with place of play.

I have played this course many times over the years, but probably won't ever play this course again. Our Sunday 11:08 AM tee time turned into 5 1/2 hours of waiting on every single shot. There were several times when we arrived on a tee box to find we were the second group waiting to hit. This translated into a round of playing the first hole 18 times. Not golf. And the worst part was that there was NOT a marshal on the course, and the guy in the pro shop told me that 5 1/2 hours "IS NORMAL" for a weekend! It won't be normal for me, 'cause I won't be playing this course again.
