Senior Discount Day. 5 HOURS 30 MINS.
We teed off around 10-ish. The start was a bit of a confused mess. A whole bunch of old timers had gone out within the prior hour, and then a couple 5-SOMES ahead of us, sprinkled with some 3s and 4s. Never did I imagine it would take 3 HOURS for the front, and then 2 AND A HALF HOURS for the back. We suffered. It was TORTURE. The Senior Hackers were out in numbers, and that’s fine. But the course has to help with the pace!!! It’s a MONDAY!!!! Not a weekend!!! If you don’t educate these people this horrendous pace behavior will continue to be a problem. You have got to tell people that after 10 stokes they have to pick up and move on, not continue to try to putt out!!!
I don’t know why we put up with it.
The course was fine. Tee boxes need work, but the place is putting in the effort to revive some of the fairways, and there was decent sand in the bunkers and they were raked.
Greens were a bit shaggy but we all know what kind of jagged grass is there. At least they were cut and mostly rolled OK.
Help us with the pace……
Santa anita 9/26/24
For the most part the fairways were pretty good. Had a few areas under repair but it was good. Round took 5 hrs which is typical. Tee boxes are in good condition.
I had a great time , shot an 84.
I'll be back for sure!
Course under repair
Some holes' fairway are under repair, one hole in the back 9 doesn't have tee boxes
A bit weathered, but still an L.A. classic
Santa Anita is unique among L.A. courses for its topography. Full of bumps, swales, and elevated greens with severe drop offs, it resembles Scotland more than SoCal. Except for the weather. On the plus side, a lot more sunny days to play; on the negative side of the ledger, by the dog days of August, the course has taken a beating. Lots of dry patches where the grass has worn away, bedraggled tee boxes, traps in need of a sand infusion and either bone dry and compacted or muddy from sprinkler runoff. Still, the layout is challenging, the greens are in pretty good shape, and pars feel like a real accomplishment. Well worth the price.
If you need to rent clubs go elsewhere
$30 to rent B$ clubs on top of the $50 to play.. as much money as this course brings one would think they could afford DECENT full sets not a walmart set..
Normal Course
Convenient location,
Dry and hard fairway,
Won’t lose the ball,
Pace too slow,
Maybe overbooked…
3 hour round At Santa Anita
All was good no one was out there. Played in 3 hrs no bull. I f we shot better we could of shaved off 1/2 hr. also i canceled 2 spots and have not been refunded as of yet!
Slowest round , 6 hour round
Wow where do I even start.
Whoever manages booking here is a bimbo,
Letting a group of 4s on every 5 minutes and it’s a bunch of old people walking.
hole 3 had 4 groups of 4 players on 1 hole???
How in the world does that makes sense, we spent 20 minutes waiting and playing each hole I called in for a Marshall but none in sight.
Place is poorly managed
Slowest round of my life
Never coming back
Slow play
Played here numerous times over the years, I like the layout of the course. It took 5.5 hours to play 18 holes on a Wednesday morning, greens were dry/slow, grass on fairways and tee boxes were suspect.
Great Place to Play
Great pace of play and decently manicured fairways with excellent greens. A wonderful spot for a twilight round.
Over crowded
All the course wants to do is put as many groups out as quick as possible. 7 minutes between tee times. That end up you have to wait on every hole is about 7 minutes before you can tee off. You can imagine on par 3 hole. It's multiple groups are cramping up behind to tee up. average wait time is about 15 minutes. Do I want to play this course again or recommend a friend. I am sure you got my answer. NO. NO. NO!
